DYNGUS DAY

HOW THIS WORKS

Śmigus-dyngus, or Dyngus Day, is a Polish celebration held on Easter Monday.

Traditionally, boys throw water over girls and spank them with pussy willow branches on Easter Monday, and girls do the same to boys on Easter Tuesday. However, here at Gooseberry, it's all happening on the same day regardless of tradition.

Additionally, although usually it's meant for girls and boys to go after one another, at Gooseberry it's gained a reputation for being a way to let your crush know you like them, regardless of their gender. If you splash water on the wrong person, they may think you were flirting with them.

Straight up confessions or love notes/tokens are somewhat common today as well, if you're feeling especially bold.

It is still something friends do to one another very frequently and is in no way restricted to couples/crushes, but in certain contexts it can seem flirtatious according to Gooseberry tradition.

Most of the staff members aren't a huge fan of the students splashing one another with water and/or spanking one another with sticks, but it's hard to control.

If you for some reason do not want your character to be splashed/swatted, let us known in the OOC section and we'll grant them immunity. However, if you have immunity, all your attempts to splash/swat others will fail. Fair's fair.

Alternatively, if you would like someone to automatically succeed in splashing/swatting your character, let us know by replying to their original comment ASAP.

RIBBONGENTS
Isaiah (AUTO FAIL) Xavier sneaks up on Isaiah several times throughout the day wielding a glass of water, but each time he gets the chance he just CAN'T BRING HIMSELF TO DO THAT TO SWEET ISAIAH. What a failure. He drinks like an extra 6 glasses of water today.

Ravi (AUTO FAIL) Between classes, Xavier tries to get Ravi by engaging him in conversation as a fake out and then getting him with an Aguamenti. But since Zav is a fucking Looney Toon, nothing happens. He shakes his wand. He points the end of it at his face. Water shoots out and drenches him. There's at least a 75% chance he did this to get a laugh out of Ravi.

Asher (AUTO FAIL) Xavier miscalculates. While Asher's leaving the lodge today, he shouts "Hey Asher!" to get his attention, but he got excited and shouted it too soon, so the trajectory on the water balloon he throws at him is off. It hits a freshman in the face. He apologizes profusely.

Jeremy (AUTO FAIL) Xavier climbs a tree over one of the paths he knows Jer walks to get to class. He hangs out there for a really long time, ready with a bucket. Until he notices there's a spider climbing up his shoulder. Zav freaks, falls, goes pangolin. The bucket lands on top he of him. He resists the urge to eat the spider while a pangolin. Small victories.

RIBBONGALS
Sun-mi (AUTO FAIL) Xavier attempts to sneakily levitate a glass of water over Sun-Mi's head, but he sneezes and loses concentration and douses yet another freshman. Why are all these freshmen hanging around???

Tabitha (AUTO FAIL) Xavier tries to squirt her with a crappy water pistol, but it's crappy, so it just leaks all over his hands. :(

Ivy (AUTO FAIL) Xavier tries to Aguamenti Ivy after class, but flower petals shoot out of his wand, instead. This is why he isn't in Charms, anymore.

Z (AUTO FAIL) WATER BALLOONS! TAKE TWO! Xavier throws an underfilled water balloon at Z. If it even hits her, it bounces off harmlessly. He apologizes either way.

THE REST
Mercy (AUTO FAIL) She probably asks him a really interesting question when he's about to douse her and gets distracted, tbh.

Diego (AUTO FAIL) He was HONESTLY about to get Diego real good, but one of the freshmen from earlier hit him with a branch or whatever RIGHT AS HE WAS GOING TO THROW THE WATER and it startled him and he tossed the glass and lost it in the woods somewhere.

Ursula (AUTO-SUCCESS, with permission) Xavier trips and falls at lunch, dumping most of the contents of his water bottle on Ursula inadvertently. He kind of gets a look on his face like the human version of a blue screen of death? "Sorry. My bad. Whoops."

Jeremy is sorry xavier spent so long waiting in ambush only to fail. He feels for you, bud. And he offers to feed you ants in recompense.

Xavier appreciates the thought but ants are not on the menu. Nope, nope. Thanks, though, dude.

Whether or not it was actually Xavier's goal to get Ravi to laugh, that's exactly Ravi's reaction. A legitimate surprised, head-thrown-back guffaw, before Ravi says "Sorry, sorry" and insists on helping Xavier with a drying charm.

After he blinks away the water, Xavier seems pretty pleased with himself. "Thanks, Ravi."

He had to unpangolin so he prob was wearing the bucket as a hat for a second but he definitely had a few seconds to earnestly think, "This is my home now. I deserve this."

Oh no, Asher actually feels kind of bad that poor Xavier missed him. Probably a little more bad about that than he does for the freshman who got hit in the face. He's not sure what that says about him. He reassures Zav that he totally almost had him, but he looks like he's about to laugh.

After he's sufficiently fussed over the soaked freshman, Xavier gives Asher a lopsided smile.

"Very nearly, dude." He agrees, as the freshman pouts behind him.

"UGGGGGGGGGGH."

When Ursula sees it's Zav, her expression changes from murderface to slightly disgruntled face. He gets a face full of bubbles as repayment.
