The paper is out! You'll find hard copies in the atrium, but I've also replicated it here for those that don't want a paper copy or who want to be able to comment on anything. Thanks for all your help and support! Have at it!

Shinny's First Game of the Season - Pixies Prevail!

The first Shinny game of the season was certainly an exciting event! Spectators braved the cold to cheer on their friends and also maybe to cheer on all the checking, but we’ll all pretend that we’re not that savage. The two teams The Pennywise Pixies (lead by Chris Park) and the Goosey Griffins (lead by Quinn Cunningham) both put up a good fight. On the Pixie’s side, Clem scored one goal and Ty and Ryan both scored an impressive two goals each, leaving their score at 5. On the Griffins’ side Quinn, Olivia, Etta, and Maggie (girl power!) each scored one goal each, leaving their score at 4. Victory to the Pixies! There were definitely a few scuffles, a few falls, and a few accidental sticks and pucks to the face, but everyone seemed to have a great time (except maybe Healer Mufferaw). We’re all looking forward to the rematch in the new year!

Polar Bear Plunge Rousing Success

In standard Gooseberry tradition, the Polar Bear Plunge went off this year without a hitch! Students from all houses tested their bravery (and maybe their smarts, because come on, guys) by leaping into the frigid water of Lake Gooseberry. Standbys helped their jumpers from the cold waters and back to the lodge for some much needed TLC following the plunge. As with every Gooseberry tradition, the Plunge was turned immediately into a competition of who could stay in the longest. Ultimately, Sofia prevailed. Congrats Sofia! Luckily no hypothermia set in. We think.

Student Spotlight: Cole Moss

Cole Moss is part of the brains behind the beautiful production we had of A Midsummer Night's Dream; he was in charge of costume design, hair, make-up, and even charmed the impressive fairy wings himself. Earlier this week we took a moment to interview him for our first ever student spotlight! Cole is a Ribbonfin Sophomore who enjoys art (in many, many forms), sewing, hanging out with his friends, and sleeping. Originally from Adastra, a wizarding town near Richmond, Virginia, Cole seems to enjoy his time out here in Utah. He’s often seen sketching around campus and becomes quite enthralled in his endeavors; if you're lucky you'll catch him sketching you! His artistic talent gave a beautiful glow to the entire performance and he remains an impressive art fixture here at Gooseberry.

Q: Did you enjoy working on this year's play production, despite the incredible amount of work it must have taken to pull it off?
A: Yes.

Errr, thanks Cole!

Do you want to nominate someone to be the next student spotlight? Let us know!

THE END IS NIGH

AKA Seniors Only Have Half a Year Left

Let's be real, impending graduation is a little intimidating for some of us. Regardless of whether you have plans for your life ready for the next five years or not even the next five minutes, graduation can be a daunting time. The pressure to suddenly become an "adult" following seventeen to eighteen years of being decidedly not an adult is momentous and somewhat frightening. But fear not! Your fellow classmates likely feel similar, and it helps to remember that a lot of the world has already gone through this phase of life and come out (mostly) unscathed.

If you are feeling that growing sense of panic despite keeping these things in mind, however, we at The Goosey Globe urge you to reach out to your nearest and dearest. Tell your friends how you're feeling, discuss your future plans with your family, talk to your favorite teachers about their past students' successes. Over winter break, take the time to relax so you can be ready come next semester to tackle classes again and your nearing release into the world with (hopefully) renewed optimism.

Some of the stress comes not just from leaving the safe, known environment of school, but also leaving the community behind that you've built. You might be leaving some friends behind but that doesn't have to be a death sentence for your friendship. You might be leaving a significant other behind but that doesn't have to be a death sentence for your relationship. Large changes will often feel much more destructive to your relationships with those around you than they actually are. Everything you've built here with your peers isn't just because of circumstance but because of a real bond you have with them.

So remember all the good things, talk to others about your concerns, and try not to be too worried about the future. Leaving the comfort of school is hard, but it's a necessary part of life, and ultimately it will help you grow as a person and not be a non-traditional student at Gooseberry when you're 85.

Around Gooseberry

A Midsummer Night's Dream is an Absolute Delight

The rendition of A Midsummer Night's Dream put on Saturday showcased the acting and design talents of many Gooseberry students. Executed with perfection, the audience gave an enthusiastic round of applause once it was completed. The cast and crew have been working tirelessly to prepare the stage play, including investing quite a bit of time and energy into rehearsals and braving some misadventures along the way: for example, a certain Riley Mae broke her leg during rehearsal (it has been said her flight off the stage was quite impressive, however). Luckily, though, any problems along the way didn't stop the drama club from putting on an amazing production. Everyone at the school surely looks forward to more of the same quality theatre in the future! Great work to all the cast and crew for a performance Shakespeare himself would have been proud of.

We'd like to thank all those that participated in the advice column this issue both by asking and answering questions! We're always looking to improve, so please alert us if there's anything you'd like to see different for January's issue.

OCC Note: Because I don't want to copy/paste a bunch of results here, I'm just linking! But in 'real life' the questions and answers are properly inserted. All responses marked 'Published' are, surprise, published (with the responder's name attached and any addendums)! The others thus remain under lock and key with Asher. Obviously feel free to OCC lul it up in comment titles for these unpublished gems. Thanks for your help guys ♥ Also hockey gif from Roz ♥ Thaaanks
