She still had no idea what was going on. It was hours later and nothing, not a single thing was coming back to her. They told her her name (Avery, apparently, which she was pleased with. It was a nice name) and some people filled her in on little things she should know, some big things she should know, but she felt no connection to those stories at all. She didn't believe any of them. They could all be lying to her. Maybe this was some sick kind of institution that experimented on teenagers. She was pretty sure they were all teenagers, they looked young enough and if they were trying to pass this off as some kind of wizarding high school, they must be teens. Still, none of it resonated. She was just as terrified as ever.
So when there was a sudden upsurge of commotion and it became obvious this was a break out, Avery didn't hesitate. Her reflexes were quick and sharp (how did they get that way?) and she was up and out of the Atrium within a few seconds, following quickly behind the other students. She didn't care where they were going - and she was only briefly slowed by what it was like outside. Like a campground. How the hell had a school at a campground? This must be some kind of torture facility. She spotted trees in the distance and headed towards them, racing into the trees. Tripping, the so-called wand fell out of her pocket and onto the ground. She had no idea why it was still there. Magic wasn't real, was it? But somewhere in her mind, the things she had learned like how to fly, how to cast certain spells, that was still there. Knowledge and skill she had acquired. She just didn't trust those memories.
Footsteps sounded behind her and without even thinking, in pure fight-or-flight mode, Avery grabbed the wand and pointed it in the direction she thought the sound had come from, briefly catching glimpse of someone who said they were a teacher before -- "Protego!" The words practically flew out of her mouth, half-screamed in a fight with herself. How stupid, what did she think was going to happen? But a large.. well, shield flew from the tip of that wand and the rustling stopped. She didn't see who was there or if it even hit the person.
But no one was coming, and Avery stood back up and darted through the woods again, stopping briefly a little bit later and hiding behind some kind of rock/fallen tree/whatever combination as she glanced at her ankle. She must have sprained it or something when she fell. Needing a minute, she tucks herself behind there and hides.
Avery + VOLUNTEER
