CARNEY PARTY 3; WILD WEST

Saddle up, partner. This New Year’s Eve, we’re heading out west!

The Carney house is decked out in a rustic Wild West theme. The place is covered in hay bales, mason jars, and cacti (even inside). Cameron greets each guest that arrives with a silver pistol that shoots paintballs. For dinner, a house elf catering company appears, cooking barbeque over a pit in the yard. There’s also plenty of alcohol - beer, liquor, wine, you name it.

HOW THIS WORKS

Everyone in the school is invited! As with parties Cameron has held in the past, the rules are simple: have fun, don’t make too much of a mess, and if you break something reparo it. The party starts at 6 PM, and anyone is welcome to stay the night and take the bus back to school from here in the morning.

Characters without costumes can pull an item from the costume chest, but once they pull, they’re obligated to wear it or risk mockery for being a spoilsport. There is also a mechanical bull riding contest out in the yard. The character with the longest ride will win a prize! You may do each of these up to three times, and I’ll keep rnging for them until 11:59 PM on 1/1.

There will be party games including truth, shot, or strip and spin the bottle/seven minutes in heaven.

» FOYER; COSTUME CHEST: Those without costumes are encouraged to pull at least one item from the chest set up in the foyer. Whatever you pull out, you have to wear! The chest is charmed so that you can’t see what you’ve got until you pull it out.

» LIVING ROOM: Have a seat on a hay bale! Or a regular couch.

» BACKYARD: The yard is surrounded by facades that mimic an old western town. There’s a heated pool and a hot tub, but the lows tonight are 21. Beside the pool, there’s a mechanical bull surrounded by padding. If you can go for the longest ride, you’ll win a prize!

» DEN; PARTY GAMES: The den has been set up for party games, including truth, shot, or strip and spin the bottle/seven minutes in heaven.

» BEDROOMS: Anyone is welcome to stay, but it’s up to you to figure out where, because Cameron isn’t organizing it. There are five unlocked bedrooms, plenty of couches and chairs, five full baths, and lots of floor space. Work it out.

» MIDNIGHT: Near midnight, Cameron encourages everyone to stop what they’re doing and come outside, where champagne and sparklers are handed out. The fireworks start about ten minutes til, crescendoing during the countdown, with a big finale at midnight. Grab someone to smooch!

» MORNING AFTER: Who’s hungover and where did you puke? Did you stick around to catch the bus back to school from Olympus?

"Who's your favorite cheer squad member?"

"Who do you think's the best player on each Quidditch team?" After a pause, he adds, "You can say you if you think you're the best on Ribbonfin."

"Oh that's way too hard. There's a lot of really good things everyone does. Ummm... Solomon, probably because he's grown so much? He's very good. I think... Jeffy or Jaime for Azurcrest, and I think... You know, I don't know about Coppertale but Nisha is both terrifying and talented so I might have to go with her on that one. I'm taking a shot on my own team, though. I think they're all the best which I doubt you'll take as a good answer."

"Completely up to you, girlie," Hazel responds with a laugh, glancing at Heathcliff. He looks so... innocently confused. Poor guy.

"Congratulations to you and your mother."

Kissing a sophomore is scary, but in an entirely different way from kissing a junior — and one in which Cash is, frankly, better equipped to handle. If you're not entirely off-put by his very dry invocation of your materfamilias, London, you're welcome to a similarly dry kiss. Guaranteed to be chaste, quick, and relatively inoffensive.

Heathcliff will definitely not take this as a good answer. He shakes his head and gives her a feigned look of disappointment. "Shoooooot. Or strip, I guess."

She takes the shot because she's trying to keep warm, not get colder! "Alright, same question to you Heathcliff. Who's the best on each team. I know that's a cop out I'll ask another if you want but answer this one for sure."

Though Hazel had been a little torn about attending this party for the whole week, she's definitely here now, and she's definitely glad she is. She's decked out in her cowboy boots that are a staple of her usual wardrobe, a simple brown cowboy hat, some tight fitting jeans, and plaid shirt. All of this appears to be... not horribly out of character for her, and she looks positively content as she sits in the living room on a hay bale, partaking of some mixed drink she whipped up with little thought.

"I'd complain about it for months," Spencer admits blithely. He lets his arm remain draped around Ira for now and gives him a crooked grin. "It's good to see you, man. I know I was gonna see you in a couple days anyway, but you're always busy with school and Quidditch. Not like I'm not busy as hell too but, y'know, it's cool hanging out outside of class."

Spencer begins pulling Ira towards... somewhere. He's not sure where, but it's hard to tell. He seems to know where he's going. Maybe he'll get another drink, maybe he'll talk Ira into getting on the mechanical bull.

Heathcliff shrugs like this is probably the easiest thing in the world. "Reid for Coppertale. Jaime for Azurcrest. Maybe Jeffy if he'd play like he wasn't just playing for fun, you know? Ramon for Ribbonfin. Clem for Ebonhide."

"Let's say... the actual devil."

"Ummm, Ruby, obviously?" This is totally a joke. Mostly. Is it? Madison takes a shot.

"If you had to trade bodies with someone at Gooseberry like, forever, who would it be?"

"Out of everyone playing this game right now, who's the cutest?"

"Reid is amazing. I get that about Jeffy, but I think there's something really nice about still having that much fun when you play." It was something she admired about Jeffy - and Solo, really. They were both so kind and happy, even after a loss or a hard game. "Okay okay follow up question. If you could replace any one player on your team with another play from one of the other teams, who would you switch with who?"

Hazel rolls her eyes, but she's smiling; she'll take the flattery and accept that Spencer's telling the truth. She doesn't exactly have any reason to doubt him, or to read too much into his selections. "Solid choices."

Spencer nods. He remembers it like it was yesterday. "Last year. It was Casino themed. There was gambling with fake money. Slot machines, card games, the works. Ennis Harper won a competition designed around it. One hundred and eighty fucking one coins. I struck out early."

Spencer sighs and shrugs. "You'd think I'd be a whiz at gambling but I've got shit judgment. Plus, I drink too much. Cheers." He clinks his cup against Cash's and takes a drink.

"Fun's great. And Quidditch is fun. But it's more fun when you win," Heathcliff points out. The boy is a Coppertale after all. Still, he's smiling when asks, "Could or had to?"

Clem wants to add a fourth category, "slap", where someone slaps you if you refuse to do any of the above.

"Had to!"

The edges of Casper's lips twitch and he answers, "Believe it or not, I don't have a favorite target." Most of the people he'd really like to hit with a Bludger, after all, are cheerleaders or idiots in the stands. Then he shrugs, half-expecting her to tell him to do a shot even if this is the truth.

"Who's the most satisfying to check in hockey?" He's almost certain he knows, so he adds wryly, "Top Three."

Spencer turns on the charm for the birthday girl and offers her his hand. "Well shit, why didn't you say so sooner? You need to rack up those birthday kisses. Closet or just a normal one?"
