CARNEY PARTY 3; WILD WEST

Saddle up, partner. This New Year’s Eve, we’re heading out west!

The Carney house is decked out in a rustic Wild West theme. The place is covered in hay bales, mason jars, and cacti (even inside). Cameron greets each guest that arrives with a silver pistol that shoots paintballs. For dinner, a house elf catering company appears, cooking barbeque over a pit in the yard. There’s also plenty of alcohol - beer, liquor, wine, you name it.

HOW THIS WORKS

Everyone in the school is invited! As with parties Cameron has held in the past, the rules are simple: have fun, don’t make too much of a mess, and if you break something reparo it. The party starts at 6 PM, and anyone is welcome to stay the night and take the bus back to school from here in the morning.

Characters without costumes can pull an item from the costume chest, but once they pull, they’re obligated to wear it or risk mockery for being a spoilsport. There is also a mechanical bull riding contest out in the yard. The character with the longest ride will win a prize! You may do each of these up to three times, and I’ll keep rnging for them until 11:59 PM on 1/1.

There will be party games including truth, shot, or strip and spin the bottle/seven minutes in heaven.

» FOYER; COSTUME CHEST: Those without costumes are encouraged to pull at least one item from the chest set up in the foyer. Whatever you pull out, you have to wear! The chest is charmed so that you can’t see what you’ve got until you pull it out.

» LIVING ROOM: Have a seat on a hay bale! Or a regular couch.

» BACKYARD: The yard is surrounded by facades that mimic an old western town. There’s a heated pool and a hot tub, but the lows tonight are 21. Beside the pool, there’s a mechanical bull surrounded by padding. If you can go for the longest ride, you’ll win a prize!

» DEN; PARTY GAMES: The den has been set up for party games, including truth, shot, or strip and spin the bottle/seven minutes in heaven.

» BEDROOMS: Anyone is welcome to stay, but it’s up to you to figure out where, because Cameron isn’t organizing it. There are five unlocked bedrooms, plenty of couches and chairs, five full baths, and lots of floor space. Work it out.

» MIDNIGHT: Near midnight, Cameron encourages everyone to stop what they’re doing and come outside, where champagne and sparklers are handed out. The fireworks start about ten minutes til, crescendoing during the countdown, with a big finale at midnight. Grab someone to smooch!

» MORNING AFTER: Who’s hungover and where did you puke? Did you stick around to catch the bus back to school from Olympus?

"Thanks."

Madison smiles warmly, but the instant she senses the group's attention move to the next pair, it falls into a pensive little line. She leaves the circle soon afterward.

Madison gives Ruby an affectionate look, shrugging loosely.

"Hmm. Maaaaybe... That I'm kinda not smart?" She laughs at this as if it's silly, which is... not completely representative of her actual feelings. Madison knows the names and general locations of anyone who's ever implied that she's stupid. "I don't know if most people applies. Or, no... That I'm hard to get to know?" That's an honest answer, for once.

There's that word again. Family. "I wish I had your confidence." It comes out too dour, too dismissive. Inappropriate for the occasion. They're supposed to be celebrating. Iliya takes a gulp of champagne, a weak attempt at getting into the mood. "I... It has not been simple, my family. Split into two countries. Two languages, two schools, two sets of customs. And now... three."

He looks up at Cameron, at how the burning light from the sparkler plays against his hair and the planes of his face.

"We will be friends, yes? Even when I am an ocean away, busy practising with an orchestra, and you... writing songs, performing to screaming crowds across America." Iliya laughs sheepishly. "Maybe I will get a ticket."

While it was fun (in a depressing way) to watch his parents enthusiastically perform various classic karaoke songs, Milo did not want his last day of 2014 to be spent with his parents. He missed Bianca, for one, and it just seemed sort of lame for another. Fortunately, they understood, and he was quickly freed to do as he pleased. Calvin's offer had been tempting, but the opportunity to kiss his girl at midnight had won out.

As he entered Cameron's, he glanced around, a smile tugging up his lips when he spotted her. Slipping up behind her, he placed his hands over her eyes playfully.

It's still awhile out to midnight. The party's really just getting started, but Todd is already pretty drunk. Open bars are not a real good look on him. He's also momentarily lost Cash, which means that he has nobody to tell him his drunken ideas are bad ideas. And to be fair to Todd, seeing Austin sitting alone on a sofa and deciding to keep him company isn't his worst idea ever.

"You get talked into this?" he asks as he sits down next to him, less because of any judgments on Austin's character and more because Todd had to be talked into it. Not that it's ever super-hard to talk Todd into anything.

Ulysses waves his empty glass in Cameron's direction. "Get me something nice," he instructs, leaving the further details up to his friend's discretion. He twists around to look up at the much, much taller boy. Squints up at his increasingly-blurry face. "Whatever Casper's drinking." He hopes this means champagne for both of them, but... maybe Casper needs some hard liquor.

Then, he turns back to the three of them that are still sitting. "I sure hope so," he says, in reply to Iliya's assertion. "'Cause I only know about... three juniors whose names I could guess."

Actually, he knows eight juniors, but close enough.

"Practice makes perfect," Cash replies, which is not a sentiment he thought he'd ever be applying to kissing, even in jest. But here he was. Back at it again. Maybe if he thought of this as honing a skill, even a stupid one, it'd tamper down the distant ringing in his ears that seemed to arise every time someone spins that bottle.

He moves a little nearer to Spencer in obvious acquiescence, but honestly, makes Spencer do most of the work in closing the gap.

Ruby watches her go out of the corner of her eye, and directs her gaze elsewhere if Madison turns back to look, pretending to laugh at whatever Spencer is up to. Her heartbeat doesn't slow to its normal pace until Madison out of sight.

"And what's wrong with that? People don't deserve to know you." She's teasing, but a part of her means it anyway. Ruby certainly has never been interested in seeming approachable, but... she knows Madison is different. She's the good girl, the sweetheart captain. "Name one person in school you wish would try to get to know you better."

Madison colors a little, but laughs again, flippant. Funny.

"Hmmm." She leans in a little bit, lowering her voice. "This is, like, dumb? But I feel like I met someone I liked at the dance. So! Them, maybe." It doesn't feel as vulnerable to admit when she has no idea who they were, and probably never will.

She rolls a sip of liquor over her tongue. "Actually, there were like -- multiple somebodies?"

Even with quite a few drinks in him and even among his closest friends, there's only so much teasing Casper is willing to take. And he's hit his limit. "You can all fuck off," he informs them coldly before turning and starting back toward the house.

"Heeeyyy," Cameron says, following after him with an odd tiptoed hop, trying to keep as much bare skin off the concrete as possible. "A'ight. Come on, come on," he says, throwing an arm around Casper's shoulders. "We'll all go in. Get some drinks. Maybe play some truth, shot, or strip," he says, then quickly amends, "And no one can ask you about your mystery lady then, 'cause that's just between the cabin, right?" He glances over his shoulder for confirmation.

They're all bad friends, Cameron says, having definitely never spied on Casper's well being for a girl in exchange for liquor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

London waves so enthusiastically, you'd think she hadn't seen Marie in years. "Thank you!" she yells, too loud for the space between them, "I said I was going to marry you earlier!"

Casper's going to go back to being a loner, I think.

He is not. He would die. :'(

They'll follow him like the pied piper.

Bianca began to laugh, trying to hide the fact that she'd been startled. "Now who could that be?" she wondered aloud, having zero indication that Milo had arrived or was even coming. Who else would come up behind her like that though? Knowing she'd never figure this out, she gently tugged his hands down and spun around, gasping in delight when her eyes laid upon her boyfriend.

"Milo!" She flung her arms around him, hugging him a little longer than was probably necessary. She'd missed him, though, and now that he was there everything felt right in the world again.

Finally releasing him from her grasp, Bianca took a step back and grinned like an idiot. "How'd you get free from your parents' clutches?"
