BRO BIRTHDAY BASH

The Grotto is adorned with orange floating lights, and at the center of it is the two thrones set aside for Casey Patterson and Jacob Wood. The music playing in is a rowdy dance mix, clearly designed to suit Casey's taste and style, and the orange lights that float about pulse in time with the beat.

The weather continues to improve, but it's been windy lately. Oddly enough, the air around the Grotto is much calmer. There's still a breeze, though, and it carries the smoke from the bonfire into the faces of people sitting in the wrong place. Ugh! Every once in a while, the wind shifts, and you can smell the thick pine trees around the Grotto very distinctly.

Late in the night, as things are winding down, there's an unexpected sighting: a shooting star. This must mean good things, right? Make a wish.

RULES

• You must use your new character journals to participate in this IC/OOC.


• The party starts at 7:00, and runs until 12:00. The prefects are still strictly enforcing curfew.


• Prefects: assume the system of on- and off-duty prefects is still in place. You may choose if your prefect is on or off duty, or if they’re going to show up at 12:30 AM to write up curfew breakers.


• If your character attends this party, they qualify for the Amnesia Event!

RULES

1. Teen peer pressure (and player sadism) aside, no one is obligated to do anything they don't want to. Characters doing Seven Minutes In Heaven can spend the time just talking or staring awkwardly at each other, and characters playing Spin The Bottle can opt out of a kiss (although people will probably boo).


2. If characters get up to anything more racy than PG-13, please fade to black on that! This includes sexually explicit conversations. Many people track IC/OOC posts, so please have consideration for your fellow players. Talking about sex is fine (and part of the flavour of a teen game), but there's no need to get into detailed descriptions of anatomy or sex acts.


3. If you'd like to say two characters were partners in STB or 7MIH in addition to what's been rolled, go ahead! Obviously, get the permission of all involved characters first.

» Before the Party: It's time for Casey and Jacob's birthday party! Knowing how Coppertale does it, this might be a wild night.

» Around the Fire: The large bonfire is warm and romantic. Pull up a log and grab a blanket, make some s'mores, or dance to the party music. There's a karaoke setup for anyone who feels bold enough to sing along. If you don't care for music, there's beer and soda in the ice chests, along with bins for empty bottles and cans. Don't litter. This isn't your home. Some bold students are even doing body shots as the temperature is continuing to rise, and lifting your shirt is no longer going to result in freezing to death.

» the birthday boys: Swing by and say happy birthday to Casey and Jacob! They've been given the traditional shitty crowns and makeshift thrones.

» Quidditch Beer Pong: Not far from the bonfire, Sy Stoker has set up a table with Quidpong. Nearby is a supply of red ping pong balls, Solo cups, and a waterproof signup sheet. Post your character/team under this heading to call for a challenger! Ask a friend to post results for you, or use the honour system. :)

» truth or shot: The rules are simple: tell the truth, or take a shot. Post your characters to this comment with their name in the header, and other characters will ask you uncomfortable questions.

» inside the building: This may be where the kissing games are taking place, but there's still some room to just snuggle and chat.

» Kissing Games:

• Spin The Bottle: Everyone sits in a circle and takes turns spinning the bottle to find their partner. Anyone who squeezes in (or happens to be accidentally standing behind a gap in the circle) gets a shot at a kiss. People can leave and enter the game at any time. Participants will be encouraged by their drunken classmates to kiss on the mouth.


• Seven Minutes in Heaven: "Heaven" is a narrow, closet-sized room adjacent to the main party, and is dark except for some cracks of light from the door. (The "door" being a heavy wooden board that's propped against the doorway and magically "locked" for seven minutes.) You can use your wand to get more light, but really, you two should be making out.

» The Woods: The prefects probably won’t let you wander too far in, but why would you want to anyway?

» the shooting star: Make a wish! If your character makes a wish (they do not need to say it out loud, just tell us what it is) something might happen to help them get what they want.

» After the Party: At midnight, prefects will be clearing the party and guiding everyone home. Don't walk back alone! Anyone left at 12:30 AM when the second wave of prefects hits the Grotto will be written up for punishment.

Penelope is pretty drunk at this point, and she's not always a happy drunk. When she spots the shooting stat, she mutters, "I wish I could get out of this place already."

THE SHOOTING STAR ~ Oscar

Mildly intoxicated and feeling kind of stupid and a little lacking in self confidence, Oscar is staring intently at the sky when the shooting star happens. Down on his luck and hoping for a miracle, he distinctly says. "I wish she liked me."

Sylla thinks the superstition of wishing on stars is silly, but still finds herself bound by tradition, and rather missing Mummy and Daddy and her sisters sitting outside and looking for falling stars, wishes silently to herself: "I wish to be the greatest duelist of my generation."

Ohhhhh that's pretty. The shooting star reminds Etta of camping trips from her childhood when she and her sister would lie awake under the night sky. They always made a wish when they saw a shooting star, and Etta automatically finds herself closing her eyes as a thought -- I wish I knew what to do when I graduate -- slips through her mind. It sounds simple, like most wishes are, but it's tied up with wants and uncertainties. She thinks about the scouts that talked to her after her last Quidditch game, and she thinks about her parents' expectations, and she wishes that her future could just be clearer, because Etta Gray is not used to feeling lost and she hates it.

But she is very drunk, and clarity is not going to happen tonight. Exhaling, Etta opens her eyes. It's probably time she wends her way back to Azurcrest.

Nia isn't even really paying attention, but as the shooting star passes over head, she thinks about her three little shelled children nestled safely in their terrarium crib. She wonders how they're doing, and kind of wishes they could tell her what they needed, themselves.

That'd make this whole crab-rearing thing a whole lot easier.

Hazel makin wishes

The moment Hazel sees the shooting star she nearly shouts "Score!!" but manages to keep her cool. Instead she squeezes her eyes tightly shut and meditates for a few moments on the thought: "I wish that next year I'll still talk to all of my senior friends a lot."

Casper

Casper hadn't been in the mood for a party tonight, but he hadn't been in the mood to just sit in his cabin either. Instead, he'd studied in the library until the Lodge had closed and then made his way outside to sit on the docks and look out over the lake. Eventually, he'd sprawled onto his back with one arm behind his head to look at the stars instead. They're beautiful but very distant and very cold and somehow make him feel very lonely. When he sees the shooting star, he thinks of the first time he ever saw one and what his mother had told him to do: to make a wish. He'd been five or six and he'd wished for ice cream. His mother had laughed and taken him for ice cream. Remembering this makes him laugh, but after the first breath his throat tightens and he stops.

"...I wish I could talk to you," he murmurs quietly to no one in particular.

Ty & Quinn

It wasn't every day that Quinn's cabin was completely empty or that the Azurcrest camp was essentially deserted, so deciding to skip the party and spend some time with his beautiful girlfriend instead hadn't been difficult. And after a little drinking and a little talking and more than a little fooling around, they'd come out onto one of the balconies for some air and some more talk. Now, lying half-dressed and with his head resting in the girl's lap, he interrupts their conversation abruptly by pointing up at the dark sky. "Hey! A shooting star!" He grins broadly up at Quinn and laughs, "I can never remember: in your head or out loud?" When making the wish. Obviously.

Ty & Quinn

With her head against the wall of the empty cabin and her hands aimlessly running along Ty, as they often do—one through his hair, the other tracing the lines of his chest—Quinn feels genuinely relaxed for the first time since... Mexico, probably. But her eyes shoot open and follow his hand to the sky. "Head, secret–" She doesn't waste any time and counts a quick "3–2–1–Go!" by tapping her fingers against his forehead. (Does she make a habit of wishing on shooting stars? It certainly seems like it.)

THE SHOOTING STAR ~ Avery

Avery is mildly intoxicated but just so happens to be staring at the sky when the shooting star passes overhead. She has wished on shooting stars plenty of times - but now, she really feels like she has it all. Maybe not all, she still had so many things she needed to work on and think about, but this is the best she's felt basically her whole life. She feels weird even wishing, but does anyway. "I wish I could find a running mate for the Prom." Silly, but she really really wanted it.

THE SHOOTING STAR - Essie & Pippa

It's getting late and Essie needs to sneak back to Azurcrest before all the prefects start doing head counts. The Grotto Party may have offered actual shirtless boys and possible kissing, but Essie's glad she opted for spending a quiet evening at Pippa's cabin; the shirtless boys in the magazines don't make her immediately want to blush and it's much easier to pretend there's nothing scary in the forest when she's at Ribbonfin. As Essie's walking out the cabin door, she happens to look up and spot the shooting star moving across the sky. "Oh my gosh, Pippa, look!"

Solomon is slightly drunk and slightly sleepy and star gazing when he sees the shooting star. He lights up because wow, that's rare and beautiful and just trash shooting through the air but it looks great. He was raised in a very superstitious family, and he doesn't buy into that, but he does believe that what you give to the universe will be returned to in terms of energy. This, like most things, is an opportunity. "I wish Casper can find peace," he murmurs to himself.

Vee, very drunk, is still able to recognize the opportunity that a shooting star presents. However, instead of anything cute like she normally would have, a bit of sadness washes over her despite how drunk she is.

He squints harder and holds his breath as if that makes the wish count For Real This Time. He hopes Anon will sneak into another event so they can hang out.

Or, like... more contact solution would be chill too. Or bottle of blueberry vodka like he had at Cam's house.

Ennis wanders off to refill his drink.

"One down..."

Casey

Casey's only looking up because he's pretty sure he's going to hurl, and if he looks down then he's definitely going to hurl. He sees the shooting star and, like, wishing on them is lame, but it means he doesn't have to think about his stomach (current status: in revolt, also, revolting) for three whole seconds. From his place leaning against the tree, he croaks out that he hopes he won't be alone next year.

And then he looks back down, and... yeah. Let's fade to black.

Todd sees the shooting star! He wishes he had a million dollars. This has been his default wish in all wish-granting situations since his sixth birthday. Someday. Someday.

Cricket's Wish ☄️

As the festivities die down, Cricket makes her way back to the Grotto for the third time. It's a short walk from Ebonhide, so she doesn't worry about waiting around for a companion. Half way to the Grotto, the wind changes and she's overwhelmed by the thick scent of pine, too dense to be natural. She distinctly remembers the way her journal smelled two moons ago—pine paired with a warning. She stops in her tracks and spins on her heel, before hesitating. Back to the safety of her cabin or forward to her brother?

She throws her head back in frustration and shakes out the tension from her fingers. Just then, a shooting star streaks overhead. She doesn't intend to make a wish, but her thoughts are so persistent and pounding that she can't help but voice them out loud. "I wish I had a way to know he'd be safe next year," she sighs, glaring off into the woods.

Forward to her brother.

THE SHOOTING STAR - Cameron

Cameron watches the star pass over head, grinning a silly grin to himself. "A shooting star is not a star, It's not a star at all. A shooting star's a meteor, That's heading for a fall," he sings to himself. I want to be famous! he thinks to himself.
