HOW THIS WORKS

• Welcome back to Gooseberry High! The school is still as wild and wacky as ever, since the first day back is Dyngus Day.


• Śmigus-dyngus, or Dyngus Day, is a Polish celebration held on Easter Monday.


• Traditionally, boys throw water over girls and spank them with pussy willow branches on Easter Monday, and girls do the same to boys on Easter Tuesday. However, here at Gooseberry, it's all happening on the same day regardless of tradition.


• Additionally, although usually it's meant for girls and boys to go after one another, at Gooseberry it's gained a reputation for being a way to let your crush know you like them, regardless of their gender. If you splash water on the wrong person, they may think you were flirting with them.


• Straight up confessions or love notes/tokens are somewhat common today as well, if you're feeling especially bold.


• It is still something friends do to one another very frequently and is in no way restricted to couples/crushes, but in certain contexts it can seem flirtatious according to Gooseberry tradition.


• Most of the staff members aren't a huge fan of the students splashing one another with water and/or spanking one another with sticks, but it's hard to control.


• This year we're doing away with the forms and RNG! You can work out among yourselves if your characters are successful or not, and who they're going after. Consider bolding the names of your targets or putting them in the subject line so people can quickly find the tags they might want to react to.

Are you a friend of Mackenzie? Well, she has a tradition she's not ready to let go of. If you see Ulysses, splash him for her, won't you? Make sure he never gets a chance to dry off, please and thank you.

Spencer -> Ira

Sure water ok whatever, but Spencer's mostly focusing on the part where he gets to hit Ira's butt with a stick. He's definitely going to swing it a little too hard. It's been an interesting transition from roughhousing with your bro to flirting with your boyfriend, and he still kind of swings back and forth between the two behaviors.

Hero is harassed by a freshman.

1. Hero is reminded of the existence of Dyngus Day when he's dragging his suitcase to Ebonhide and is hit in the arm by a jet of water from a mischievous freshman girl. He takes five points, has a few strong words for them, and complains to a nearby [Ebonhide Character A]: "This isn't even a real holiday!" But it's fine, it's fine, he's moving on with his life...

2. At least until an hour later, when Hero just narrowly avoids being nailed by a flour bomb as he's arriving at the lodge, instead only getting flour all over his shoes and the bottom of his black pants. It's the same freshman? Five more points from Ebonhide!! Oh my god!!!! "Do I look like a mimic?" Hero gripes to [Character B] as they help magically clean the flour from his clothes.

3. Things rapidly escalate from there, as this freshman decides the most efficient weapon is a water-flour slurry that she's carting around in a bucket? Hero dodges the next hit that comes for him, but only because he ducked behind [Character C], who received the brunt of the hit. Hero is mostly apologetic, and offers them a handkerchief.

4. Point-taking and lectures have no impact during this fake holiday designed for harassing others. As the day comes to an end, Hero thinks he's finally escaped the freshman girl's notice... until a floating bucket drops its concealment charm, and dumps the entire disgusting water-flour slurry over Hero's head. At this point, he just gives up, and covers his flour-sticky face with both hands. Let the forest take him.

Juniper--> Several people

Juniper targets these people, so feel free to tag in here:

She teases Oz that she's gonna do it but then she doesn't, it's just to mess with him. She doesn't really want to cause any trouble.

Archie -> Nisha

Archimedes is always difficult to locate, but today it's especially noteworthy. Friends that do see him will find interactions brief. He's only seen when he wants to be, sliding out of the shadows to ask for favors. Largely, he wants information on Nisha's whereabouts, or Dinah's if possible. There's a high likelihood Nisha won't be far. Lucky for him, both of them are loud and he already knows their regular haunts.

Throughout the day he appears behind Nisha, or comes out from around a corner, and one time a second story classroom window opens, revealing Archie, patiently waiting for her to pass below him. Each time, he greets her with a bucket of water or a spray of Aguamenti before disappearing once again.

Gwen ----> Webster

A side benefit of learning strategy for the Hunger Games was that now Gwen knows all of Webster's usual pathways to get to class. She doesn't whack him with a stick (that stuff hurts), but he doesn't attend a single class dry all day. #sorrynotsorry

Jade -> Ari

Jade knows that water leaves evidence, and they’re still...kinda trying to be secret. So her participation consists of one incident where she steals a branch from a freshman, walks by Ari and swats her light and by “accident”, and disposes of the stick in a nearby receptacle. She apologizes profusely. Nothing flirty here, guys!

Lucas » Bash

It'd be easy enough with Aguamenti, but Lucas has it in his head that he's going to do this the old fashioned way. Because that's (?)better(?). He can be seen throughout the day chasing Bash around campus with a large bucket of water (all that light exercise finally paying off). And the only thing he uses his willow wood wand for is trying to land a smack on Bash's butt.

Kenzysses -> Jaime

They each take one of dear sweet Jaime's arms and all three of them go toppling over into the cold lake. Ulysses was already soaked, and it's not technically bullying if all three of them take the plunge, right?

Ari ⟶ Jade

After spending all day complaining about what a stupid holiday this is, Ari quietly excuses herself early from dinner and then promptly returns with a bucket of water that she dumps on Jade's head. Not the most discreet they've ever been, but plausible deniability is everything.

Danny » Rosy

Danny's wearing a rain poncho today, which speaks to both how much he anticipates getting doused and how little he deserves it. So he looks especially toolish when he spends a decent part of his day trying to sneak up on Rosy. He doesn't even need to do this spy shit, but he wastes a lot of time on it, anyway, before he gets around to actually targeting her with Aguamenti during lunch.

Calvin -> Micah

"Don't you dare," is the first thing that Calvin says to Micah in the morning, holding up his hand to further emphasize the no. He makes Micah listen to his complaints about Dyngus Day for a solid 20 minutes as they walk together. He needs to buy himself some time, because plotting to get the upper hand on Monday had fallen to the wayside. He hadn't even done any studying, much less remember some preposterous holiday about buckets of water. His solution isn't elegant, but it'll do the trick.

The first time Micah turns his back on Calvin, he touches the tip of his wand to the back of his neck. "You know what's goin' to happen next," he quite nearly purrs.

Tobias ⟶ Various, but particularly his prefect

Haha, this is basically like going to summer camp. You know, water gun fights and stuff? Anyway, it's super fun! Toby knows there's something about crushes here, but he's kind of ignoring that for now, because... whatever, man, this is awesome. Pretty much anyone who crosses Tobias' path is liable to get his with an Aguamenti blast.

#1 target? Dude! Rupert! Come play with them.

Ursula ⟶ Ferdie

The winner of this year's Prom Companion competition may already have been decided, but that doesn't mean that Ferdie's going to get away so easily. Hopefully he didn't forget what day it is, because if Ursula has her way, he's going to spend very little of the day being dry. He'll get an apology kiss the first time she catches him by surprise, but she won't be so kind afterwards.

It's also very possible that she recruited a few Event Committee freshmen to hassle him as well. Cross year bonding at its finest!

Ruby ⟶ Madison

Ruby knows full well that Madison wouldn't enjoy getting drenched, but she can't let her girl pass the day completely prank-free. Ruby acquires a pussy willow branch, and sneaks up on Madison to lightly swat her behind.

Essie ⟶ Jeffy, Others

Seems there's been wanted posters plastered all over town for one Jeffy James and in a stunning and utterly predictable turn of events, Estella de Ville is planning on collecting that reward.

This is really just an excuse to have an extended squirt gun battle all day long and she'll recruit anyone who makes the mistake of crossing her path, but fellow Candy Rustlers are definitely not escaping her sights today.

Sy ⟶ Clem

Last year, Sy climbed onto the roof of Clem's cabin and waited for her, but she'll be watching for that now. So bucket in hand, he bides his time by the lodge, for when Clem goes for dinner. Hopefully Sy actually manages to hit Clem and not an Auror. Although, y'know, fuck MACUSA if they get drenched.

Iliya ⟶ Cameron

Iliya has never actually participated in the flirtation side of this odd holiday before, too embarrassed to express attraction to anyone in such an overt way. But this year is... different. So Iliya invites Cameron to spend time with him after class, and can be found waiting on a bench in the gardens. As soon as Cameron sits down, Iliya's going for the magically concealed bucket of water on the ground, and he'll try to dump the whole thing over Cameron's head before he can flee.

Jade ⟶ Extended Tradition

Last year, Jade floated a glass of water to haunt Essie, but this year Essie has a boyfriend. Don't worry. This year she stood behind a corner to float water glasses above both Essie and Jeffy's heads, then ran when they fell.

Her new story is that the secret admirer is still around and wants to maybe take part in the hot new throuple trend.

Ferdie⟶Ursula

Ferdie anticipated Ursula's attack and came prepared to this day. He took his prom button (re-worn at the masquerade) and tinkered with it a little over Spring Break Week to shoot out water. He'll wait til he's very wet and then when Ursula comes in for a kiss, she'll (maybe) get a squirt instead.

Addy ⟶ Nia

This is only going to work if after a day spent gratuitously thwacking Nia with a branch, Addy can then lure her to the potions lab to talk after hours. If she can do that, Addy has an entire cauldron of levitating water waiting.
A classic, from the worst teacher's assistant ever.
She'll vanish the water, later, and levitate the cauldron back down without killing her girlfriend, which is honestly a pretty big accomplishment.

Fern ⟶ Heathcliff, Copperjuniors

Despite the fact that this isn't a competition, Fern is in this to win this. Heathcliff's a big target, and her goal is to soak him with freezing water and beat him with a stick, the most romantic of gestures, without getting got herself. She's also making time for her fellow Coppertale juniors.

Edited to add actual actions:
Gwen of course hits Webster multiple times, but she also gets Sandy, Ennis, and Yancey because all Big Fish boys deserve love (she lets Chloe and Ursula take care of their boys). Her girls will get wet hair unless they are Rosy and threaten bodily harm, but Gwen has the patented Big Fish Pout to assist here.

Juniper has select targets because she isn't sure about feelings so she just hits people she vaguely likes for different reasons.

Teddy will drown the whole EJB cabin if need be, although a wet raccoon is frankly just a sad sight. He only gets Issy in a couple spots and is really careful to not get her hair or otherwise geniunely bother her (unless she gives him the okay, and then it's ON).
