Prom is the end of the year dance that kind of marks the finality is the year, and "moving up." It's usually only for seniors, maybe juniors or they do a separate dance for juniors and the freshmen/sophomores typically can't go unless invited by an older student as their date.

So basically yes but with some additional tidbits that make it different.
