I like endless Quidditch talk as much as the next person, but can we take a moment to discuss the mysterious building work that's going on in the woods by the lodge? Merrill told me I'd find out what it is soon enough (which would sound ominous coming from anyone else but him) but I'm really enjoying the theories so far. My personal favorites include:

• A detention cell for holding the really naughty troublemakers.
  
• A teacher-sanctioned alternative to the Grotto where we can drink safely.
  
• Kennels. (This from a girl who really misses her dog, apparently.)

Ah, that first one sounds like a very viable option. We have so many naughty troublemakers at this school. Has anyone noticed anything very blue and white headed towards the construction area?

No but I've always wanted one. I mean I like my turtle and all but she's not like a dog. And there's lots of dogs in shelters that need adopting.

I like the idea of the kennels.

The real question is, why are we being kept completely away? Maybe it's some kind of dangerous construction? Or maybe it's dangerous in general? Maybe it's a surprise for someone?

I was told to stay away for "safety reasons" when I tried to snoop, which I assumed referred to the construction work itself, but maybe you're right and it's a highly dangerous BEAR PIT with REAL BEARS at the bottom. Question is, who would it be a surprise for?

I was thinking maybe an active volcano, but a bear pit sounds more reasonable.
