So, the good news is I seem to have a working prototype of a wearable charm that can verify an individual's identity.

Bad news? The charm only works with one type of really rare metal. I've got enough for two. That's it. Not real feasible for the whole school.

What type of metal? Maybe if people want one the “cost” is supplying the metal?

It's not the cost, it's actually obtaining any. It's an alloy I had a tiny piece of in a ring from my mom. But maybe I can see if anyone else has an idea. ~~Or give up~~

Gwen, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to stress you out! I know that I said I don't like losing, but I also meant it when we were joking with Casper about our campaign strategy. I'm not sure how to square those things because I know they might be contradictory. But, I'd like to campaign our way. And have fun with it. And hope that strategy is a winning one. It sounds like a lot of fun being alternative candidates together. I pick you!

Webster, that's brilliant. We could totally do a whole Ask Me Anything (okay, it would be an Ask Us Anything?) post and see what people say. That's much better than posters, and I think it's a lot more us. I'd really like to do that.

You're right, we probably should. Do you already have some ideas about what you're going to wear?

Could try to fund raise. A lotta blokes are here on scholarship but a lot also have money. You could see if anyone is willing to throw down for a good cause. Maybe bake cookies or have a raffle or event of some sort to compensate for the monetary cost?

It's not so much expensive as it is hard to find. Or, really, it's both because it's expensive because it's hard to find. I guess I am doubly screwed.

Also I'm not that good at cookies. It might be more productive to learn how to do that.

Oh. Well that blows. I don’t much about rare metals, I use a lot of copper. But this sounds like an invention that could benefit people beyond the realms of school, so I hope you don’t give up with it. It is possible that given the Magicness of what you’re trying to do, the metal might be easier to obtain in magic circles? I could ask around if you would like. There could be a seller in places like Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.

I tell myself that this is something I can work into my senior project, or at least my portfolio in trying to get an apprenticeship. But I really wanted it to work. Anyway, yea, that's the next step. You know some possible places to ask?

I know Dervish and Banges in Hogsmeade has a tendency to sell parts and metal. It’s a magic repair shop but I get a lot of my material - or I used to get a lot of my material from them. I can owl my dad for a list of possible shops that sell or specialize in rare metal and give you what he comes back with?

There's certainly no requirement to campaign for yourself and I suppose if it really bothers you, you could speak with Mr. Hightower but I think you'll make a lovely candidate and I'm sure Rosy won't let anyone forget that you're on the ballot.

That's disappointing news about the metal, but congratulations on the discovery nonetheless. It seems the security measures in place have been working well, so perhaps the need isn't quite as dire as before?

There's so many remarkable students at this school that I don't think you can slice it easily down to who has or hasn't earned something like this. You'll be wonderful, and besides, Rosy would hate it and I'm better suited to dragging Ferdie into a criminal life with me anyway. Just try to have fun with it.

No, we'd need to put more work into it. However, I think being generally well-loved is a good start. Others are working with less.

I'm trying to balance spending all my time in the shed working on it, versus getting ready for the interschool Quidditch matches, and my senior project, and Equestrian, and so on....I made it my focus for a while but then I was just getting more frustrated. I won't give up, though. I made a promise I would find an answer.

Well, a few of the boys might give you gruff, but they're gonna have to try a little harder at winning my favor before I give them any claim to the title.
