LARP Faire

LARP Faire
Something big’s in the works around the lodge today, with students scrambling around between classes with strange decorations and construction materials. It’s not until after lunch, though, that the project becomes clear: LARP club’s annual renaissance faire is here!
It doesn’t take much to get the atrium looking like a tavern. The lighting is dimmed and students dressed as elves and orcs and halflings loiter at tables or the bar, talking in low voices or laughing uproariously. Freshmen kobolds carry trays of food and drink, giving the house elves a rest, for once. On a makeshift wooden stage, magical instruments play pleasant, rustic tunes when students aren't up performing. When the atmosphere is this convincing, it's easy to jump into character. And you're welcome to participate, too! A costume rental stall has been set up near the entrance to the atrium, an empty classroom serving as a changing room.
This year’s festivities spill outside the lodge, which is good, because it’s a beautiful day. Sunny, warm, but not hot, and low humidity. Elaborately costumed students run booths to sell snacks, wares and other things - kisses, mystical advice - with all proceeds going toward next year's LARP club. Beyond this - the main event: a jousting tournament.
Students of Gooseberry are invited to watch or even participate in the event, held inMr. King Elmasry's honor!
» The Tavern: The Lodge atrium has been transformed into a rustic fantasy tavern. Listen to music, get some appropriately themed food and mingle with the "locals."
» The Marketplace: The area immediately outside the lodge is unmistakably a marketplace. Students dressed in elaborate costumes heckle passersby from stalls lining the path. Come check out what your friends are offering! Please fill out the form below and post it if you are running a booth.
» Kissing Booths: Get a smooch from a cutie! (Don't worry, anti-smoochborne-illness potions are in use. Probably.)
» The Arena: An arena has been fashioned with magic, wood and rope. Stands with banners for each of the school's four houses surround the clearing. There's a ringed space for duelling, but the main event is the joust. Everything is pretty well childproofed, so no serious injuries can be sustained.

HOW THIS WORKS
- The LARP club has taken over the first floor of the Lodge from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. It will include a rustic dinner made for getting 'to-go' in weaved baskets. Turkey legs and grilled vegetables feature heavily, and are available throughout the event.
- The jousting tournament starts at 5PM and is anticipated to go until 7PM.
- The Atrium contains the tavern which is kept dim and lit with moody lanterns. LARP went all out transforming the lodge into a medieval ale house. A stage has been set up where both the musical performances and the fencing tournament will be held.
- The area outside the lodge has been transformed into a marketplace and arena for the jousting tournament. In addition to the joust, there is a ring for duels fought with foam LARP weapons.
- Student-run booths need to follow basic school rules of appropriateness and legality, but they can be just about anything! Get creative!
- Students are encouraged to attend in costume but it is not a requirement. LARP club members are generally remaining in character for the event.
