KISSING DAY

The first day of exams at Gooseberry High coincides with a beloved, exasperating wizarding holiday: Kissing Day! Are you too stressed about your grades to participate, or are you more worried about getting lucky kisses than correct test answers? I mean, obviously only one of these things matters for the future.

Some Azurcrest freshmen have created a kissing game with very obscure rules. Apparently, you win double-plus super good luck and 1000 kiss points (!) if you manage to get a smooch from Sofia Delgado, who is harassed for kiss requests from freshmen all day. Rupert Wick tries to stop the game by confiscating the kissing scorebook from Freddy Stoker, but another scorebook pops up not an hour later, in the hands of Stewart Ocean. How many copies did they make?!

Mr. Merrill stumbles upon Sylvester Stoker stressing out about the 250-question epic Transfiguration exam they have later today. He gives them a lucky kiss on the forehead and few peppy words of support. You can do it!! He believes in you!!! Ms. Rhee is honestly not that mean, it'll be fine!!!!

The easily flustered Agent Yaeger agrees to give Ariadne Flint a chaste kiss on the hand. Uhhh, good luck on your tests? Don't tell Monet about this?

RULES

Kissing Day is an American wizarding holiday meant to usher in the upcoming summer solstice. It's considered good luck to get kissed today, and bad luck and a year of loneliness if you don't get a kiss, or if the object of your affection refuses a kiss from you.

The melodrama of what it means if you don't get the right kiss can vary, so feel free to have your characters be incredibly melodramatic or extremely exasperated over this superstition.

Some students may be under the impression that more kissing = more luck. Will anything special happen if you collect the most kisses? (... probably not, but you'll sure feel loved.)

"Still seems harsh to me," he replies. He doesn't have anything else helpful to add to the notes, but he's focused on invading Iliya's space, so instead he doodles on his notes as an excuse to stay leaned over.

"Oh, he may not act like the friendliest, but I know better. He's really a softie." He draws a little cauldron wafting fumes in the corner of Iliya's notebook. He's no artist, but it's recognizable. Satisfied, he looks up at Iliya. "I think they're all lucky to have found each other."

Iliya should say something to that, but the words stick in his throat all of a sudden, and so he just closes his notebook and leans in to press his forehead against Cameron's shoulder. Instead of recipes and stirring techniques, he lets himself only focus on memorising the warm scent of Cameron's shirt.

"You look like you fought an army in the Grotto closet," Iliya informs him.

Cameron wraps his arm around Iliya, trying to fight off the melancholy pang in his chest. The year is almost over, and they never finished that conversation that they started when they were drunk. Surely it can wait another day, though.

"Do I look like I won or lost?" he asks. Then he adds, like he's just remembered something that Iliya doesn't know, "It's Kissing Day today. Very important American holiday. It's good luck to get kissed and terribly bad luck not to."

"Ah, well. Then that is very bad luck for me." Iliya straightens up, his expression perfectly neutral as his fingers start toying with Cameron's tie. "I have not been kissed today, and you look like you already got your fill."

"I can't figure how you managed to escape Kenzie and her charmed lipstick all day," he says.

Cameron doesn't do neutral, and his grin only gets wider. Iliya may not be pulling him by his tie, but Cameron leans slowly in as if he were. "Fill? I haven't even got started yet," he says, then closes the gap to press a kiss to Iliya's lips.

Iliya closes his fingers around Cameron's tie and tugs, not that it's necessary at all to keep him there. They're at the lodge, in plain sight of anyone walking by, but Iliya is past the point of caring about that now. There's only a few days left in the term. He kisses Cameron thoroughly, not taking any chances for this Potions exam.

"Blagodarya ti, krasiv muzh," Iliya says primly. "Maybe I will get a B now."
