No way to know. Mimic Yaeger carried her back. Why bring back the real Monet when you could replace her with a fake too?

When I overheard Monet talking to Larke, I think she was suspicious of Yaeger. She said he was acting weird. I don't think she'd do that if she weren't the real thing. But, that was almost two weeks ago. Who knows, now.

Why bring back the real Monet, then?

Maybe [...] it could use her to get into restricted areas. Maybe some defenses against mimics do work. Or, you know, Yaeger comes back alone from the forest saying he was attacked and Monet was killed, they're going to check and see if he's the real deal. But if he comes back with Monet passed out, everyone's going to think he's a hero.

There's a lot of options. And no solid leads anywhere.

At the very least we know they work together, right? Hazel saw them moving in a group at the Astronomy thing. And they're constantly [...] canoodling with each other. Loyalty is a bit harder to pin down.

Are they just mimicking us, though? Canoodling to cause strife? Or do they genuinely care about each other? There's no way to know. I wish there was some way to know more.

They do things specifically to upset us. Try to lure us into the forest. Pose as our friends and say awful things. It's [...] a control thing. A power thing. They gain something by upsetting us. Otherwise why would they do it? They could harass Anon and Brother. Or just mimic animals all the time.

One of their biggest goals seems like it's to replace us too - not sure if that's so they can cause more drama or what, but...

Maybe they thrive off of negative feelings. Like a dementor? So they go where the people are and cause upset. Or [...] The book Jade found at Hogwarts talked about how the Unknown were torturing Muggles to try and create perfect doppelgangers. Could be they're looking to re-establish their humanity by replacing us.

That makes as much sense as anything. Could explain why they're getting stronger too.
