REVIVAL

REVIVAL

Every last relic was returned, along with Brother's heart, and his younger brother. Every last piece of Brother—the guardian of the forest that's been your home for the past two, three, four, eleven years—was won with blood, just for this moment.

I'm not strong enough to fix it all, Anon writes.

The Oak's heart glows and pulses wildly, growing brighter and brighter until it rivals the moonstone for intensity. It is the moonstone. The tree, the heart, and Brother; it's all one and the same. White light washes over Anon's beaten body, clearing away the dirt and blood, filling his slender form with moonlight. It's too much to look at, but you can't tear your eyes away. The moose stands once more, planting his hooves in the dirt.

He grows larger, and larger still. You can make out the familiar shape of his legs, body and antlers, but Anon might as well be made of pure light now as he rises to twenty feet tall, then fifty, then beyond counting. His brilliant hooves pass through trees and buildings; they pass through you, bathing you in Anon's warm light. You were brave, his presence whispers to you. You were brave. You were brave.

He stamps his feet against the ground, and the night sky trembles overhead.

He opens his mouth to unleash a cry of grief, and every tree in the forest shakes with the force of it.

The massive Oak splits in half with a resounding crack, releasing Brother's power like a bright bomb. In an instant, every mimic is destroyed. Every last one, burning in the fire of the moose's light. The artifact turns to ash.

It burns you too, but there's no pain as you breathe the light in. You see massive rocks crashing in the north as time is turned back in Azurcrest, restoring the camp to its undamaged state. The dead gasp, taking air through their lungs again. Their wounds vanish; their eyes fly open as Anon shouts in their minds. Wake up! And you, filled with Anon's light, you feel every terrible sacrifice fade away. Knowledge and memories return to you. The things you've lost reappear in the light. Your body becomes yours again.

The white moose fades to nothing. So does the fog.

Brother is still dead. He had to choose whom he loved most, and he chose you. They both did.
