QUIDDITCH/CHEER TRYOUTS

The sun shines bright above the Pitch as team captains set up for tryouts today. Each house gets ninety minutes to assess the skills of the students who come out in hopes of nabbing a coveted spot on the house Quidditch team and Cheer squad. Ebonhide and Coppertale have their tryouts in the morning, and Ribbonfin and Azurcrest have theirs in the afternoon.

Quidditch captains get the sky and the west end of the Pitch, while Cheer captains get a long table with chairs on the east end. Spectators are allowed in the stands (even from other houses), although if you disturb the proceedings at all, you will be thrown out by Coach Thorn, no warnings and no second chances. Captains will be given a week to decide who to keep, and must submit their official rosters to Coach Thorn by next Friday.

If your character attended tryouts as a captain, potential player/cheerleader or spectator, feel free to post below with what they did and/or how they performed!

Dru Goshawk

Some people might be surprised to learn that Dru is all business when it comes to Quidditch tryouts. While she is highly confident in her abilities, she also knows one bad move could cause someone else to swipe her position as Keeper out from under her. She pays attention to instructions given to her by Coach Thorn/Etta and does her best to incorporate any constructive criticism thrown her way. Is her tryout perfect? No, but she is highly consistent and knows a difficult maneuver or two. And flips. She may have done a flip save toward the end.

Also, she was down at the pitch virtually all day watching the tryouts from the other houses.

It's no secret that Reid hates tryouts.

He's unenthusiastic about the whole event, but follows Sy's instructions without argument, at least in the beginning. The only thing is that it's very clear Reid thinks his spot is ensured. If no one is giving him a direct command, he's more interested in performing feats on his broom than showing he can catch the Snitch. He barely makes eye contact with the new people trying for the open spots, and spends ten minutes just floating above the pitch instead of watching his potential new teammates.

The last five minutes of Coppertale tryouts is Sy yelling at Reid to GET HIS ASS DOWN HERE if he's not even going to try for the fuckin Snitch. WAINWRIGHT you FUCK the Snitch flew RIGHT BY YOU and was caught by a freakin SOPHOMORE, how the GODDAMN HELL is Sy supposed to judge anything if you KEEP BEING SUCH AN ASSHOLE

He definitely threw a Quaffle at Reid's head. :|

Ulysses Quayle

[identity profile] postmodern.insanejournal.com 2016-09-10 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ulysses is here to have a good time, y'all! While he's certainly not the best chaser at Gooseberry, he's far from the worst. His arms are super long, so he's able to reach for catches/shots that others can't. He also seems to have no fear while flying and many of his moves reflect that. Refine, he is not, though he knows how to work with what he's got. When not doing his thing, he cheers on his fellow Ebonhides because he's apparently all about that team spirit.

Tabitha Ogletree

[identity profile] caritasmitis.insanejournal.com 2016-09-10 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Still feeling worn down, Tabitha and her few remaining cheerleaders occupied their space during trials, though Tabitha was the only one seated behind the table. She got the others to lead the tryout guys through their paces and teach them a short routine and some moves, and watched how they managed to pick it up as well as how well they performed. She watched with interest the people who choreographed their own routines, and thanked everyone kindly when they were done.

Mackenzie Prince

[identity profile] prekenz.insanejournal.com 2016-09-10 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Mackenzie was bouncing with energy at cheer tryouts. She super excited to get Cheer tryouts underway. It was the first time being on this side of it. She gave a big pep talk to the new people trying out this year and went over the routine she had made specifically for tryouts. The main point of her pep talk was to leave everything out there and not to hold back. She wished everyone luck and yelled "Go Azurcrest" at the end of it.

Dominic Tremblay

[identity profile] thecourtier.insanejournal.com 2016-09-10 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
He decided to try out for the Coppertale Cheer Squad after all, because why the hell not? Beatrix had made it sound fun, for a start, and he demonstrated fair strength by doing some lifts and throws with a sophomore girl who was also trying out.

[identity profile] lfmkarapst.insanejournal.com 2016-09-10 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Trixie is 5'0" and tiny, she would totally be up for some tossing if he wanted.

Okay, that sounds super dirty.

Diego Morales

[personal profile] indiefolk 2016-09-10 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Diego put on a show, demonstrating some flips and tumbling he'd been practicing over the summer. However, Diego knows he's on the cheer squad for his considerable upper body strength, and was on hand to be the muscle for girls trying out who wanted to show off with lifts and throws. He's reliable and coordinated on those catches.

Diego is always really talkative during tryouts and practices, though, and the whole time was happily teasing his teammates and captain.

Cecil Honeychurch

[personal profile] choneychurch 2016-09-10 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Happy to not be in a role of authority for once and ecstatic about the return of Cheer, Cecil was all smiles during Mackenzie's speech and throughout tryouts. While not as loud as some of the others, his enthusiasm was obvious, his rendition of the routine was quite close to the original, and his lifts later on in the audition process were as effortless as one might expect for someone that's a foot taller than most of the girls involved.

In addition to his own tryout, he cheered for new and old members alike and seemed genuinely impressed with the turnout. It was a lot of fun!

Calvin is actually quite enthused about Quidditch. He showed up for Ribbonfin's tryouts (off to the side where he wouldn't attract too much attention), and then stuck around for Azurcrest's right after to support Regan.

COPPERTALE QUIDDITCH

[personal profile] threatens 2016-09-10 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
WELCOME TO YELLING O'CLOCK

Sy's horrible mood continued into Saturday morning as he was up before breakfast to dog Coach Thorn about every single detail related to tryouts. He glowered impatiently in the stands while Ebonhide went first, just barely restraining himself from yelling at Fiori to GET A MOVE ON ALREADY WE ALL KNOW YOUR TEAM'S NOT GONNA BE A CONTENDER.

During Coppertale tryouts, Sy was determined to run everyone hard, especially any prospective Chasers and Keepers. He was pretty certain that Chris was keeping his spot and Roxie was moving up to first string, and instructed them both to give new kids the BEATING OF THEIR LIFE. Any Keepers got pelted with Quaffles hard enough to bruise, and he had Faye helping him put Chasers through the paces with all sorts of passing and accuracy trials. Auditioning Seekers went basically like this, tbh. At the end, he told everyone to fuck off and not bother him for a week.

Sy returned to watch Ribbonfin and Azurcrest, and was a lot less of a DICK and actually paid attention to the new talent.

Re: COPPERTALE QUIDDITCH

[personal profile] bambae 2016-09-11 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ooc: I was legit about to write Chris up as doing just this

Chris was pretty secure in his position and seemed to enjoy beating the new try outs with bludgers just a bit too much. But he would've devoted a little bit of time running Rox through the ringer too - until she learned that beaters can pass bludgers to each other too, at least.

But if Sy actually believes his team aren't gonna have input in who makes it, he's clearly delusional. Chris plans on giving Sy his opinion as soon as the try outs are over. Rox is pretty secure since she's already practically on the team and Chris would've fought for her if Sy had reservations. But they still have chaser and keeper positions to go over and Chris is entirely basing his opinion on which Chasers dodged flying bludgers the best. If he knocked someone off their broom, they're disqualified as far as he's concerned, no matter how good they tried out.

Trixie Armstrong

[identity profile] lfmkarapst.insanejournal.com 2016-09-10 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Trixie was mostly there bright and early sipping on one of her patented smoothies all kitted out in appropriate jumping flipping clothes. With an Ewok hat because why the hell not. She was super pumped about being there and determined to do her best ever for Coppertale seeing how it's her last year here and she was too hyper for her own good. She did wander around a lot and cheer for other teams but let's be real, she was there for the Tales. Also, she's barely five feet and about 100 pounds so she is ripe for all of the needed flying.

Also she really wants to give the team the name 'Sparkle Motion'.

Trixie Armstrong

[identity profile] cheerity.insanejournal.com 2016-09-11 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ty was likewise super pumped about everybody who came out, and he grinned a lot during her tryout and was completely fine with giving the team a name even if he didn't get the reference. "We're gonna have to vote on that!" He was right in there spotting all the lifts because <>safety first, and tossed her some awesome sparkly copper pompoms for the proper visuals, and when she nailed him in the side of the head he laughed it off and high fived her on an AWESOME HIGH KICK!

[identity profile] catseyenebula.insanejournal.com 2016-09-10 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Katya, in her Prefect glory, knew to show up to cheer and cheer for the cheer team and Quidditch she did. After all her dorm mates were mostly here so her cheering was mostly for them, sorry rest of 'Crest, she's got favorites. But she did not try out even if Riley had been sort of bullying her into joining, she's got the coordination of a rock.

Regan Hobbs

[identity profile] reehobbs.insanejournal.com 2016-09-11 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Regan, being Regan, was a bit of a show-off, doing some loop-de-loops and zig-zags at the top of her try-out. However, when it started in earnest she buckled down and played hard and well. That's how she does it, folks.

Holden Bright

[identity profile] blinkah.insanejournal.com 2016-09-11 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Holden showed up to Ribbonfin's try-outs nervous and not really talking to anyone, still stuck in his own headspace and worrying about nothing. Absolutely nothing, however, as he got fully in the zone for his session, and got that same steady focus once he was up on his broom. He tried some of his riskier feints and dives while the stakes were low, not to show off, though feel free to speculate. But of course once he was off his broom and watching the other positions go through their drills and moves, he had no snitch or objective to focus on, and started worrying to himself again about his performance.

He didn't stay to watch other teams try out, because he knows it only makes him freak out and get more neurotic.

Gabi Flores (Ribbonfin Cheer!)

[identity profile] gabiflor.insanejournal.com 2016-09-11 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
Gabi arrived in the morning to watch the other houses' tryouts, and got a head start on her own by cheering for everyone else, basically. When Ribbonfin's turn rolled around she was just as enthusiastic as she was at the beginning of the day (which was very,) bright and bubbly and just clearly overjoyed to be out in the sun cheering. She stayed until tryouts were done for the day and continued to congratulate everyone who did anything, basically.

Levi Kramer; Coppertale Cheer & Azurcrest Quid

[personal profile] gdilevi 2016-09-11 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
COPPERTALE CHEER TRYOUTS

Surprise, surprise. Levi more than willingly woke up before noon in order to pull through with the joke he made to Ty about trying out for Coppertale's cheerleading team. He wore his galaxy print drop crotch joggers paired with a borrowed No Fox Given tank that he pinned up to make into a crop top. He was lookin' real fresh as he calmly stood in the line with the other cheerleading hopefuls, acting as if nothing were out of the ordinary.

IF THORN LETS HIM SLIP BY:

He has a small routine prepared to the new hot hit What Does The Fox Say. The song's very recent relevance in Muggle pop culture makes it clear that there are more mastermind's behind the scenes of Levi's attention-starved stunt. While his cartwheels are comically lopsided, his dance routine is fierce af-- which shouldn't come as a surprise, since the dance floor is where he spends most of his time at parties.

Near the end, he looks to Trixie with the widest, most shittiest grin on his face. When she runs up, he grabs her by the waist and lifts her and it almost looks like he's about to complete a successful toss to hands until he flings her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and runs off with her, thus ending the routine.
--

IF THORN CALLS HIM OUT ON HIS BS:

Levi retreats to the stands to cheer for his sporty Copperbabes and blow kisses to his favorite ones. If Thorn kicks him out out, then he leaves but tries to return for the Azurcrest portion later in the day.

--

AZURCREST QUIDDITCH TRYOUTS

By the time it's Azurcrest's turn, Levi has changed out of his fox shirt and into his Quidditch uniform and gear although he's still wearing his galaxy joggers. He's trying harder than his usual, partly to show off his skill to the new hopefuls, partly to brag about his excellent health to the ones still suffering the last of their sniffles from the party.

Clementine Decourt, Ebonhide Quidditch

[identity profile] franklydear.insanejournal.com 2016-09-11 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Clementine didn't tell anyone that she was planning on trying out, and she was very quiet and formal in her perfectly-pressed (ty house elves!) athletic robes and her sleek broom while she waited her turn, not really talking to much of anybody except to say, when asked, that she was trying out for Chaser or Seeker.

Once she got up in the air, though, she proved to have the same surprising fierceness and drive she shows in Duelling/Fencing Club. She's as neat and efficient as anyone on a broom, though not at all showy; instead of trick flying, her style is more about quick passing of the Quaffle and easy rolling dodges, showing a lot of competence for someone who's never tried out for a team before. She followed every instruction from her captain to the letter, and frowned at the students who used the time to horse around or play tag. She also tried out for Seeker and was decent at it, catching the Snitch a few times under other players' noses, but she didn't go for any of the more daring catches, so she lost the Snitch more times than she caught it.

By the time she came back to earth, Clementine was flushed and windswept and probably the least put-together anyone here has ever seen her. She was even smiling a bit. :)

Henrietta was excited for tryouts and was pretty relaxed throughout, putting potentials through their paces and calling out positive comments as well as instructions. She was glad she didn't have to audition Seekers (especially after seeing the Coppertale fiasco, lol) since that seemed to her like the hardest position to fairly judge. At least with all the other positions you can measure success/accuracy, and less depends on chance.

At the end she thanked everyone for coming and couldn't resist grinning at people who were on the team last year, like, AHHH WE'RE SO GOING TO HAVE THE BEST TEAM THIS YEAR. :D

Passionate about Quidditch, Aiden gives his all in everything he does on the field that day. Always desiring the spot of Seeker, he especially shows his skills in catching the Snitch. While he might be nervous for a second, having to try out beside his friends who share a liking to the same position, such nerves quickly fade away. His focus is serious business and, while he would encourage friends and be polite in face, it would be clearly evident he was there to earn a spot.
