hello, hello
Who: Z and Vee. Zoey and Veronica. IDK the rhyming is so cute to me ;-;
When: Thursday afternoon, Sept 15th.
Where: Quidditch pitch.
What: Catching up!
Warnings: N/A.
Thursday.
Fridays were usually the day for supplemental flying -- impromptu visits to the pitch either between Transfiguration and Artficing, or sometime in the golden afternoon after Astronomy. when all of her classes were through and she could pretend, put off last minute notes or visits to the library before that weekend feeling set in and distracted Zoey from what was "important." This Friday, though, would be a Harvest Moon, and she'd need whatever extra time she had to do special work on her senior project. There were certain things one could only test properly around differing moon phases: their altered cultural symbology, energy, strength. She could charge a few crystals for Divination, too, among other uses. No time for flight.
No time for a lot of things, lately. If Z had found junior year difficult, this year was already proving its match or more. Thankfully, it was rare to begin with that visiting the pitch didn't free Zoey of various existential aches and pains, even if it occasionally supplied others -- and on her own, there was so much room to think and plan and consider. She was coming down from this kind of high -- metaphorical and physical -- when she noticed Veronica in the stands, letting out a little whoop of recognition and excitement. She pushed her flight goggles out of her eyes with glee, guiding her broom down and toward the stands to meet the friend she'd had no time to catch up with yet.
"You! Hi! Oh my god."
A little awkward, maneuvering: she was vertical for a moment, hanging off the broomstick with the fingers of her left hand and the crook of that knee, then onto her feet, then crushing Vee in a pleased little hug. "Working on cheer things?"

She was captain.
Biting back the smile lest she look like an idiot to anyone wandering past, Vee instead refocused. She was not going to be lax on routines just because she had a full plate this year. She'd trained for this. She was born for it. All of the classes and work in the world couldn't stop Veronica Powers from making her squad the best it could be.
Maybe no classes could, but a familiar brunette definitely had that skill.
Looking up at the sound, which sounded like an exclamation of excitement, her lips fully formed into a matching grin at the sight of Zoey. Vee was in a complex stretch move that involved limbs at angles that probably shouldn't have been possible unless you'd just drank a bone regenerating potion, so had an equally awkward time maneuvering herself into a position where the hug her friend sprang on her was better received.
"Hi!! Oh man, is it good to see you!" she returned by way of greeting, breaking free after a moment to look at Zoey. "Of course!" She grinned conspiratorially here. "A captain always has to stay on top of her crew." Vee wasn't sure if the other girl knew she'd been named captain, but it didn't really matter. She wasn't looking for praise or glory. Instead, she was fixated on Zoey. "Are you doing practicing of your own?"

Who else could it really have been?
Z returned the grin, slipping her goggles off her head entirely and tousling the hair back to life where they'd sat. "Just clearing my head. I like to get a fly in on my own at the end of the week. Sort of... reset."
Rain or shine.
"How was your summer?"
no subject
"I can understand that. It's nice to come out here and practice some on my own before everyone else joins in."
Situating herself beside her friend, Vee stretched out a little as she let the breeze cool her down. "It was good! Didn't seem like long enough," she answered with a sigh. "How about yours?"
no subject
"It's never really long enough! Especially after last year." She'd worked herself a bit too hard, and had come away from it feeling a bit tired, rough around the edges. That hadn't gone away yet, though it was easy to ignore with so much happening now, the easy excitement of being a senior at last.
"I went to New York, actually. My mom knew someone who knew someone who needed a few interns. It was okay." Good in some ways, bad in others, as expected, and t'd done nothing for her burn-out. "I didn't do exactly as well as expected, but -- fun?"
She paused, remembering, and shook her head. "I'm relieved it's over, actually."
FINALLY. I SUCK SO BAD I'M SORRY <3 <3 <3
She shook her thoughts away as Zoey launched into the explanation of her summer, however. That was far more important. Not to mention interesting. "That sounds...well, just as complicated as you say. Though I do find the idea of being a research intern kind of exciting, I'm not the one who knows anything about it," she said with a smile.
"Did it give you a good idea of what you do and don't want after graduation?"
