Anyone (trustworthy) know a good potion for migraines? The one in Borage's book is garbage, takes forever to make, and tastes like lavender and lake water to boot. And ibuprofen is not going to cut it.

Did you guys have this problem when you started studying Occlumency? Am I doing something wrong or should I just get used to my head feeling like it's about to split open?

You should go talk to Elmasry. Mufferaw's always been a hardass, but I bet our baby potions teacher would help you out. Hey! I bet he'd even show you some new recipes you could try.

Ha, I actually know exactly where he is on Saturdays. The LARP kids convinced him to be their sponsor, so he'll be out there with all those sword-swingers until dinner.

No problem. I understand what you mean when you say you'd rather be able to take care of it yourself.

I have better than ibuprofen.

I have some low dose codine. One of the only things that can get me to sleep at times. Outside of that I have a bit of pot left if you want to go that way. Some vodka if that makes you tired.

Looks like you're stuck with asking for potions then. Moderation in all things keeps from fucking you up.

Just how much lake water have you been drinking?

Hmm. Define trustworthy.

I've messed with headache potions before, not so many migraine specific. With hangover potions I like a little hot pepper. That lake taste goes away.

Of course they work! Come on.
They're probably a little different. I don't know how exactly. I can second Mr. Elmasry being super helpful though. Maybe he'd know if it's like, vital.

Have you tried coffee?

[identity profile] postmodern.insanejournal.com 2016-09-25 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh. Five cups of it normally does it for me.

Five??? Jesus, Ulysses. I think that much might kill me. You have nerves of steel. Or maybe just a caffeine addiction?

[identity profile] postmodern.insanejournal.com 2016-09-25 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, it won't kill me! Takes about 70 cups to do that.

You should probably get used to it.

It doesn't go away in a year.

I've never made a potion specifically for migraines but you could increase the strength of a standard headache potion by adding more dittany and wiggentree bark and counterbalancing that with a sprig of peppermint and a little less juice from the sopophorous bean. Though I kind of like the taste of lavender.

Are you going to try it and find out if it works for migraines?

It's unusual, but not that bad! Have you ever tried lavender shortbread? That's not as strong and it's really yummy.
