Left on Asher's desk this morning is small white box tied with a light green ribbon.

Ravi sewed a set of tiny felt coffee cups filled with catnip. Yes, he's now supplying his friends with drugs. How could he have fallen so far.

Underneath the cat toys are a Rite In The Rain top-spiral notebook, a black ink pen, and matching canvas cover in tan. The notebook features waterproof and weatherproof paper, and a metal-cased pen that can write even when wet, upside down, or in extreme temperatures.
(Ideal for a war correspondent, maybe...?)
A small note card reads:
Happy birthday, Asher!
"Journalism can never be silent: That is its
greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must
speak, and speak immediately, while the echoes of
wonder, the claims of triumph and the signs of
horror are still in the air." โHenry A. Grunwald
Originally I was going to write this long
thing about how terribly I'll miss you. But
I've been ruminating on this quote, and you,
and the amazing writer you're going to become.
So instead: wherever you go, please remember
that you have a friend at home who'll always
love to take you out for coffee.
Your long-suffering friend,
Ravi
