MACUSA PRESS GALA

Nomaj guests staying at the Lotte New York Palace, one of Manhattan's most notable luxury hotels, begin to notice differently-dressed couples and families arriving for an evening event. It's time to celebrate the collective efforts of MACUSA's upper brass, communications departments, and the Canadian Ministry of Magic from the past year: it's the annual MACUSA Press Gala!

The dress code is black tie and dress robes, the food is high cuisine, and the schmoozing is almost unbearable... especially for their children, who for the first time ever have been included in this prestigious yet stuffy event.

The evening begins with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, leading into the main event of the night: an exquisite dinner in the Madison Room, followed by speeches and allegedly hilarious and/or insightful entertainment touching on hot topics from the MACUSA's last twelve months. Everyone agrees that the star of the show is wizarding America's favourite rapper, Snoop Crupp(!), who performs one song and then spends the rest of the night smoking in one of the suites.

After dinner, however, is when the fun really happens. Tired of being asked about their classes and aspirations, the Gooseberry children in attendance exchange a series of silent nods, amounting to: I think it's time to blow this scene. They procure as much alcohol as they can and retreat upstairs, where the Stoker twins offer the living room of their family's suite for the night.

The Ilvermorny kids aren't invited, so they take over the next-door Champagne Suite. Look how common it is. Typical.

HOW THIS WORKS

This IC/OOC is for the children of MACUSA and MoM employees. Each child is allowed one date.

The Gala guest list includes Cole (and Calvin), Cressida, Henrietta, Jefferson, Kurt (and Chloe), Mackenzie (and Iliya), Magdalen, Rosemary, Sebastian, Sylvester (and Reid), Tabitha (and Nathaniel), Ulysses, and Xavier.

The adults are participating in a very irresponsible drinking game, in which they see who can drink the most and still function in their meetings tomorrow. It really makes you wonder where these kids learned it from.

» BEFORE THE (REAL) PARTY: Anything that happens before the kids break away from the herd.

» GETTING THE GOODS: How does a gaggle of teenagers procure alcohol? Do they transfigure IDs and fool the liquor store clerk? Bribe a waiter? Pull a heist?

» THE PARTY: The suite's living room is full of comfortable couches, chairs, and chaises. Drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic are in ready supply. There's music playing and it's way cooler than whatever the old fogies downstairs are listening to. (Surprisingly, both playlists feature The Hobgoblins.) What more could a partier need?

» THE TERRACE: Need to step outside? The terrace has fresh air, seating, and a killer view. The weather isn't great, but that's what magic is for, right?

» PARTY GAMES: It's not a Gooseberry party without innocuous games that have zero chance of getting out of hand. Feel free to start other party games beneath this header!

» NEVER HAVE I EVER:

» BUSTED!: Very Drunk and Very Lame adults catch wind of the shenanigans happening upstairs and they come to drag their naughty children home by their ears.

Truth or dare

Rosy always tries to go for dare, because Rosy doesn't like telling the truth. And there is at least one person in this room who will know if she lies.

"Dare. I dare you to dare me."

Chris shrugs. "Give Sy a foot massage. Has to last at least three minutes." Truth or dare has a great way of turning sexual too fast but Chris refuses to support tainting such an innocent game.

"Dude, pass," says Sy.

Chris shrugs again as if to say 'if you wanna puss out on a dare'.

Rosy does not want to give Sy a foot massage. Please don't make her give him a foot massage.

"People always try to double up on our dares," she says, looking to Sy. "I'll down my drink instead if you do."

"We're not even identical twins, you fuckers." Sy's already lifting his glass. It's like he doesn't even need an excuse to get drunk. "Pass and double pass, Park."

Has never learned to fear this game because people always just dare him to do stupid fun shit.

"All right Zav, pick your poison, truth or dare?"

"Dare, of course." He drawls out the 'a' in dare and claps his hands together.

"I dare you to..." Rosy looks around, reminding herself that this is her parents' suite and they probably shouldn't fuck up any, like, priceless diamonds or anything. "Finish your drink and drop the ice off the balcony." She didn't say "bonus points for hitting a pedestrian" because she still likes to pretend she's not a spoiled rich kid almost literally in an ivory tower, but, uh, bonus points for hitting a pedestrian.

"Bonus points for a hitting a pedestrian!" Sy calls out. He's only a little drunk. Mostly he's just a goddamn asshole, like his sister.

Xavier seems fine with Rosy's dare until Sy chimes in. Then he just kind of looks horrified, "That's so mean? What if I put a hole in their head?"

He looks at his drink.

It 100% does not occur to him that either way he would be downing his entire drink.

"Pass, man, I can't. Sorry."

He downs his drink.

Because it's the coppertale way probably

"Christopher Alfredo Park." Xavier says, sounding maybe a little drunk after downing his drink and playing Never Have I Ever. He doesn't actually know Chris' middle name. That was a stab in the dark. "Truth or dare?"

Sure that's close enough. "Hit me with dare, Xavier Maxwell Lewis." Chris doesn't know his middle name. "What you got." He might be a little drunk. He strongly believes that if he keeps saying he's fine, then it totally means he's not drunk.

"I dare you..." Xavier strokes his chin thoughtfully, like a detective mulling over an important clue. "To head over to the Ilvermorny party. Greet the first person you see like they're a best childhood friend you haven't seen in years."

That's ... that's cold. In theory, Chris has no rivalry with Ilvermorny since he'd never actually attended the school, and they hadn't lost their game against them. Which is why this would be weirder, since he doesn't know any of these kids by name. "Okay, I got you," he says readily. "Who wants to be my witness?"

Reid's motto is "whatever".

Jeffy doesn't know how he got here and he doesn't seem to realize he's playing with Coppertales.

"Truth or dare!" Chleo says cheerfully.

"Truth!" That seems harmless, right?
