This entry isn't going to make all of you happy, but please read it through to the end and keep in mind that I'm not doing this to punish anyone or to ruin anyone's good time, but because I care about the House and about all of you.
Lately, there has been a lot of discussion among the senior prefects, Magdalen, and me about the type of behavior that should be going on within the camps, both on a day-to-day basis and during parties or other gatherings. It's important to remember that the camp isn't just where we gather as a House, but it's also where we live and a place where all of us should be and feel comfortable, safe, and welcome. Currently, the widespread use of alcohol and drugs is making that standard impossible to maintain. If you don't believe this, I can tell you from experience that I was immensely uncomfortable here as a freshman and I can tell you that some of your peers are having similar experiences right now. Some of them would get used to it, like I did, but not everyone would and that shouldn't be a requirement for living in this camp. I think we'd all agree that Azurcrest is about more than that.
As of this afternoon, contraband (drugs or alcohol of any kind) will not be permitted at shared campground parties or in common areas of the camp. While you may continue to consume drugs or alcohol in your cabin, this should be done with the consent of your roommates. Such substances can still be brought to parties at the Grotto as well. Rafael will be making an announcement later today that goes into more detail and you will all be expected to follow these rules. After today, no warnings will be given out and anyone found breaking the rules will receive disciplinary action.
I know that this is a big change and it will take everyone time to get used to it, but please consider your peers and your priorities and do your best to take these changes in stride.
If you have questions and want to speak with me directly, I'll be out by the firepit for the rest of the afternoon and I'll have my journal as well.
Thank you everyone.

But can I still smoke outside near the firepit when it's not a party? What about vapes?
no subject
Cigarettes and vapes are an exception and you can continue to smoke where you want when there are no events happening at camp. During events, though, we'll ask that you leave the main gathering areas and come back when you're done. Sound doable?

Cecil may be regretting his conversational choices.

Is this about the thing at Ribbonfin? I kind of heard something, but then Ravi and Cricket were all no, everything's fine, prefect business. All I really learned is that I'm terrible at being a gossip.

This isn't about one particular incident or event, but more about the general culture of the school.
What happened atThe Ribbonfin party started some conversations, but it isn't the reason this decision was made.no subject
You don't like the parties? Er, at least, not the drinking parts?

The whole thing about "side parties" and what does and does not constitute them and what you can and cannot do at them...does that mean that prefects are going to be expected to just burst into random cabins at parties to make sure no one who doesn't live there is inside drinking or whatnot?
Because I am really, really, super not comfortable with that level of privacy invasion, dude.
no subject
That said, with regard to side parties, prefects are not expected to go from cabin to cabin busting in doors or looking into windows or anything like that. Privacy is important and we want to respect that too. However, if you walk by a cabin and there are noticeable signs of illicit substances (loud voices that sound intoxicated or the smell of marijuana or anything like that), I think it's reasonable to look into it. Knock on the door, go in, and just see what's going on. If you don't feel comfortable with this, you can always reach out to me or Maggie or the senior prefects for assistance too. If the gatherings stay small and civil and don't bother anyone else, we don't expect you to go looking under every rock.
Does that help?
