SWIMMING PARTY

Out behind Ribbonfin there’s a rope swing and enough beach space to throw a little party. Because it’s hidden from the prying eyes of teachers, it was once used for scandalous skinny dipping. While you’re welcome to strip if you want to, it’s mostly going to be swimming, partying, and a little afternoon drinking.

RULES

• This is not sanctioned by teachers. There will be a little alcohol, you can smoke pot, and you can even skinny dip if you're bold. Prefects might warn everyone not to be too loud, otherwise everyone could get caught.


• The temperature is a high of 75°F/24°C


• It is a mountain lake, so the water's a little chilly. It's also got leeches, so... watch out!


• There's a rope swing off a small ledge that you can use to send yourself flying into the water! I was going to make this another RNG game but wow I'm tired. So it's pick your own poison if your character looks cool or not.


• This is not free season to injure your character for drama/attention, though. Serious injuries still need to be ran through the mods for appropriate staff responses.


• The party begins at 3:00 PM and goes until sunset, around 9:00 PM.


• You may be asking yourself, hey, is that snow in the background of this summery looking gif? GOOD EYE. Guess what's still in the mountains and I can see right now.

» BEFORE THE PARTY: Grab your bathing suits (unless you plan to bare it all) and your friends and hustle down to Ribbonfin.

» THE SHORE: There are some logs you can sit on, and drinks if you want them, although Rafael Ramirez is fussing at anyone who wants to drink and swim.

» SWIMMING: The water's a little chilly and you're not alone (leeches, Goosey, etc.), but it's clear and refreshing. As previously mentioned, unofficial lifeguard Rafael would really like to avoid any drownings. NO RUNNING.

» THE ROPE SWING: Climb up to the small ledge, get some momentum and go! Adventurous students might want to try pulling off a flip.

» AFTER THE PARTY: Swimming is tiring work! Things wrap up around 9:00 PM, well before curfew. You can stay if you want, but the party's died down.

Baggy shorts, oversized sunglasses, a baseball cap that's definitely seen better days (which is what makes it cool), and a t-shirt so covered in paint it looks deliberate and abstract; in short, Dahlia is high fashion today as she bounces around camp, waiting for her other big bears to finish their beauty routines.

"We're all gonna go swimMING," she sings to a deliberate beat and kicks a leg out in what might be an attempt at a one-person conga line. "Some people gonna get naKED, but it's not gonna be ME because I still go to school HERE."

Come join her, she might stop making up terrible conga songs about skinny dipping.

Ty & Quinn

A refrain's run through Quinn's mind for weeks—exams, exams, exams, graduation, summer, training, exams—with no sign of stopping. Studying can quiet it for a while but now, on the beach, it's difficult to avoid. Relaxing on her back, she tries to shut it out with the sounds of the party. She gets nowhere. Ugh.

She peers over at Ty, lying beside her in one of his rare moments of not running (or squirrelling) around. Exams, graduation, summer... Alright, fine. She can keep wondering and worrying about shit, or she can do something about it.

After a quick glance around confirms that they aren't within earshot of anyone so long as she keeps her voice down, she rolls onto her side and props her head up with a hand. "Hey," she begins softly. "I've got a question for you but it's the sort that leads to more questions."

Diego & Ravi

Diego sits down next to Ravi (fully dressed, reading a book), and the first thing he does is pull his shirt off in one fluid movement. He hands it and his glasses to Ravi with a breezy smile. Finals are rapidly approaching, and so is Diego's annual exam-inspired breakdown, but he's managed to keep the warning tremors private so far. This year it promises to be a big one, as he thinks about Ravi leaving, the forest, leaving Essie alone next year, and meeting the doctor Johanna found.

"Sure you don't want to go for a swim?" He already knows the answer, but Diego clearly wants to get in a few minutes of teasing. His face is alight with the anticipation of being declined, just so he can go into his next pitch.

Quinn! (open!)

Quinn was going to skip the party but gave in because it's the last few weeks of her senior year. Then she was going to wait until 7:00 to leave the library but gave in because it looks so nice outside.

She's set up on the shore, leaning back against a log in swimwear that may seem at odds with the textbook in her lap. Although there's no drinking or smoking for Quinn today (she's got more work back at the cabin!!!), she takes study breaks to splash around in the lake and pour water down the backs of dry friends' shirts.

While she usually shoots a death glare at anyone looking to bother her while she's studying... let's be real: she's probably going to give in to you, too.

Unofficial Lifeguard Rafael (open to multiple)

Rafael is actually a somewhat accomplished swimmer, although today he's doing less swimming and more hovering on the shore gently hassling his friends. He makes a few jokes about being the lifeguard on duty, and even has a whistle that he sometimes blows at people for nonsense offenses. He means business if anyone's actually at risk, but makes no effort to chase his peers down for alcohol, stripping, running, bringing down the party, forgetting to pluck a leech, etc.

If you're on friendly terms with Rafael, he almost certainly blows his whistle at you and accuses you of breaking a rule he made up on the spot. The rapidly approaching end of the year seems to be doing wonders for his disposition.

He's dressed for a swim, but Dimi's also holding his camera, so it's unlikely he's going to be taking a plunge anytime soon. Instead, he stands on the shore, near the rope swing ledge, fussing with the UV filter on his lens. Occasionally he lifts the viewfinder to his face to peer through and adjust focus.

Turning aimlessly, he eventually settles on Rafael and snaps snaps a not-quite-focused shot of him blowing his whistle. Then, another turn, just in time to capture Robin eating water after jumping off the rope swing. That one will get charmed to move.

Hazel & Micah

Hazel has flung herself from the rope swing a few times and gone swimming and generally futzed around, because Fern's insistence that they come had rekindled some of her defiance in the face of scary shit. This doesn't mean, though, that she thinks she's got to be up and moving and involved the whole time.

The sophomore has stretched herself out on her stomach in the sun, liberally slathered in sunscreen, with a "sunhat" on and her Potions book open in front of her. Responsibility is gross, but sometimes it's required. She doesn't look particularly focused, though, as she turns pages seemingly on a whim. Some of that lack of focus might have to do with the fact that she's sipping on a beer... but she's secretly hoping someone will come save her from her half-assed studying anyways.

Leeches? No thank you. Ari's not even pretending that she would consider going in the water today. She hasn't even taken off the outfit she's wearing over her swimsuit. But some of her friends are here, and it's a nice day out, so she's tagged along to lounge around onn the beach.

When she first set herself up on a beach towel with her back up against one of the logs, she had made a cursory attempt at studying for her transfiguration final. But it's so sunny out, and her classmates are being so raucous, that she can't focus. Now she's reading A Storm of Swords. She was reading the first book at the last beach-side party, so anyone with a sharp eye might note that she's really ripping through this series.

With the Jaws theme playing in his head and unwilling to admit that he's been inspired by Youngfuck, Casey ducks under the water. He swims. He hunts. He finds his mark, and yanks a pair of nice-lookin' legs under the water! HA!

Nia (Open)

Stuck neatly into a yellow inner tube, Nia floats lazily offshore. She kicks her legs as she flips halfheartedly through History of Magic flashcards. Studying still sucks, even on the lake. She blows out an exasperated huff of air and pushes her sunglasses up into her hair to see if anything interesting is going on on the beach.

Calvin actually gets in the water of his own accord. (open)

In lieu of the rope swing which is currently the subject of two different photographers with a little too much interest in him, Calvin turns his attention to a different small hill. He moves hand over foot to the top of an outcropping he saw people jumping off of. Some students have chosen to come up here just to sit and watch the swimmers, but that clearly isn't Calvin's intent. He stands at the edge and peers over it, assessing the depth of the water. Breaking his neck on the bottom would be a very fitting but unfortunate end to his year abroad.

"I'm calculating the likelihood of death," he explains when he senses eyes on him, "and how much I feel like embracing it today."

Why did he put so much effort into picking out swim trunks (and why does he own so many) if Cameron was just going to get naked almost right off the bat? Pastel purple shorts abandoned on the shore, he doesn't even have the decency to pretend to be shy.

Bianca + Milo

With a new blue bikini on, Bianca cautiously stuck her feet in the water and wiggled her toes around while she waited for Milo. The lake was cold today, but she'd dealt with colder back home in Alaska. Either way, she didn't care much if she did any swimming or not. She just wanted to take advantage of what little time she and Milo had left to hang out at school, hoping that maybe they'd be able to extend that into the summer. She was having a lot of fun with him and hoped that he felt the same, though a part of her already knew he obviously was or he wouldn't have agreed to hang out with her.

Lucas Lets The Sea Take Him

Lucas actually tries it!!! But chickens out on the release and ends up swinging back to shore. He drops off the rope and just...walks straight out into the lake and lets himself float. Maybe Goosey will take pity on him and eat him.

Robin's Got This Shit

"CHECK THIS SHIT OUT," Robin calls from the ledge, way louder than the acceptable volume levels established by the prefects. He's still wearing his shorts though, so count your blessings.

He jumps off the ledge, throwing himself out over the lake, and lets go of the rope at the perfect moment. The only reason he doesn't look like a total badass is because his foot got caught. Or something. Whatever, at least when he hits the water, face down and splayed out like some damn roadkill, he makes a big splash.

And it totally doesn't hurt at all. His belly's just pink as fuck because he's sunburned or some shit.

Ty says "Yeah!!"

This looks a little dangerous...but it also looks fun! Ty grabs the rope eagerly and swings out over the water without a second thought. When the rope has gone as far as it will go, he drops easily and lets out an excited cheer before plummeting into the water. He will be all about this for most of the afternoon and will likely start searching for ways to show off.

This is exhausting. Like, wow. This whole ... you know ... being a teenager at a haunted high school thing. Major sleepifying. Also spending all day horsing around in a lake after cramming for finals all week. That's exhausting, too.

Which is why Xavier, sprawled out on a beach towel, arm draped over his eyes, dozed off at some point late in the afternoon. Dead to the world. Unaware that the party is wrapping up. Maybe nudge him or something.
