Safe and sound!

The search and rescue operation for S.S. Grindyboat is officially over! She's home, she's safe, and she's sound! Thanks to everybody who helped me look for her!!

On Friday Mr. Covington let me take Lacey out because I wanted to go for a ride after dinner since I couldn't make it to Equestrian last week. She was acting really weird, and she wouldn't listen to me, and I thought it was going to be another spooky thing like everything that's happened lately (but I'm really glad everybody's okay!!). But instead, she brought me to the S.S. Grindyboat!! For real! I don't know where it went in the middle of the race, but she was just sitting beside the trail. Maybe a bird did take it, or maybe somebody accioed it out of the water as part of another prank. If you did do that, it's okay, and thanks for getting me back my boat.

She's even in perfect condition! I mean the boat, not Lacey. (But Lacey's doing pretty great, too.) I'm almost positive it's the real S.S. Grindyboat because I remember some of the folds I did by accident — the creases are still there. My boat! Not wet or marked or anything! I know that horses are really perceptive animals, but this is way beyond what I thought they meant!

I didn't expect people to form search parties or anything, but I was still keeping an eye out for a little yellow boat when I was outside.

Well then I'm glad you got your boat back. Even though it's in suspiciously perfect condition. That actually sounds like it should be a mystery of it's own. The boat's been gone for a month. It should've at least got rained on

but that doesn't matter because the search is over, so congratulations.

YES! That's such a good idea! She's already really smart, and maybe bringing me to the boat means she's going to pick it up quicker than some of the other horses!

I read some of that paper (it's a big science article thing so I maybe haven't read all of it yet) and it looks like we should start with "blanket on" and "blanket off"? Only weather-related stuff. They had ways of testing the horses with changing temperature, probably with the nomaj wall button things. We don't have that, but we're also not trying to do a science experiment, so I don't think we need to. If we spend 10 or 15 minutes working on the blanket stuff it might be a good start!

We can use atmospheric charms to make the stables extra hot or extra cold and see if the horses respond to that? I read most of the article and I made a board with the blanket off and on symbols. I'm not a great artist, but I think it makes sense.

That's amazing, Cricket! Thanks! I'm sure the board will be perfect. We'll probably have to check with Mr. Covington that the charms are okay because if we don't do them properly we can hurt the horses, but I think the charms are a really good idea. We can ask him tonight at Equestrian, and maybe if we ask him to supervise the charms he'll be okay with it? (And I'd feel better too, just in case anything goes wrong. He'd know what to do.)

Of course! I wouldn't want to make the horses too uncomfortable, but I reckon that Mr Covington casts atmospheric charms in the stables all the time and is probably pretty familiar with it.

Lacey is a great horse. I think she'll really take to it!

.... No! Do you think I should?? Right now she's just sitting on the corner of my desk. Maybe I should at least cast some protective charms around her or something, in case she hears the call of adventure again.

It's obviously up to you, but she's clearly made of much heartier stock than the S.S. Soggy Yellow Litter I found last month, so maybe she won't need it!

Thanks, Pippa! I tried to figure out what might have happened to her since she's in such good condition. I don't think she was picked up by a bird or anything, because there's no marks. If somebody did accio her, I don't know why they would!

Unless somebody found her and decided to repair her! Maybe you have a secret adm really good friend? Or a fellow boat lover? Who knew how much it would mean to you to get the Grindyboat back in perfect condition.

Oh! That would be really nice! But if somebody actually did that, I'd want to know who. It's kind of creepy extra mysterious that they would just leave the boat for me to find?

They could be shy! Were there any clues around when you found the boat? Like footprints or something else dropped nearby?
