KISSING DAY

RULES

Kissing Day is the day before the summer solstice! It's considered good luck to get kissed today, and bad luck and a year of loneliness if you don't get a kiss, or if the object of your affection refuses a kiss from you.

The melodrama of what it means if you don't get the right kiss can vary, so feel free to have your characters be incredibly melodramatic or extremely exasperated over this superstition.

Simply comment with your character's name and form below, and then respond to others who have posted their characters!

Some students may be under the impression that more kissing = more luck. Will anything special happen if you collect the most kisses? (... probably not, but you'll sure feel loved.)

Name: Calvin Evercreech
Receptiveness: Calvin is refusing kisses. All kisses. From everyone. He thinks this is a nonsense tradition, and the more people push him, the more he absolutely refuses to participate. Even people who could ordinarily get a kiss from him on literally any other day (like Ree) will be refused. He might dryly joke that he's actively trying to curse himself. Don't mess this up for him.

"Caaaalviiiiiin." Micah opens his arms wide when he sees Calvin, first thing in the morning. "Give us a kiss."

"No." Calvin holds out his hand in a STOP gesture right in Micah's face as he walks past. Even his palm remains carefully out of range, just in case Micah gets wily and lunges for a hand kiss. "Absolutely not. Not today. Never. In fact, I'm never kissing anyone again."

"Never?" Micah doesn't lower his arms as his feet skip along to keep up with Calvin's stride. He looks ridiculous, but that's never bothered Micah. "Calvin, Calvin, Calvin. Let's think about this. Sure, 'crippling loneliness' and 'never feeling the loving touch of someone's lips on your face' might sound appealing, but have you truly thought about the repercussions? Bad luck. For AN ENTIRE YEAR, Calvin!"

Calvin takes a deep breath to steel himself and lifts his chin haughtily. He moves with long, quick strides to challenge Micah's silly side-step skip. He's not going to smile at Micah's antics, though, no matter how much he hams it up. "Bad luck is simply a part of existence. My existence especially," he says with a huff.

"In any case, I don't see the appeal of kissin'." Only partially a lie. "And I don't feel lonely." Absolutely a lie.

Because Micah is a good friend, he will not call bullshit on these disgustingly obvious lies. "Okay okay okay okay, but have you thought about it this way: it would break my heart, and Ree's, if you were doomed to bad luck next year. Especially when it was within the power of our smooches to save you from such an awful, dark fate?"

"No need t'worry about me and my fate." Calvin waves his hand at Micah, and resists looking at him for a little bit longer. "I'm embracin' it. I want to be cursed. Keep your lucky lips away from me, St. Clair. Go aim them at someone who'll appreciate it."

"Unfortunately, that's everyone. I have a busy, busy, busy day ahead of me." But Micah stops following him. You win, Evercreech. A lifetime of bad luck and loneliness, all for you. "Let me know if you change your mind! Micah St. Clair is always open for kissing business!"

Later, during class, Micah will aim an air-kiss at Calvin when he catches his eye. ;*

Hazel goes the silent route in harassing Calvin for kisses - any time she sees him during the day she gives him the saddest, most pouty face she can muster. Why won't you kiss her, Calvin? Are you trying to sabotage her love life?

Calvin knows Hazel's love life doesn't need his help. He saw her snogging Micah earlier, and he's pretty certain Micah fits the qualifications for giving luck granting kisses better than Calvin ever will. As such, he's unmoved, but does one time mime drawing a tear down his face with his index finger. So sad.

In response to his fake tear, Hazel attempts to pantomime a request to just kiss Calvin on the head. It ends up looking like a poor attempt at hamboning.

Calvin makes a show of the deep, deep confusion he feels at the sight of... whatever it is Hazel's trying to tell him. Does she want to punch him? This is Hazel, after all. She might very well want to punch him on his head. "You can't do that either."

"You're such a party pooper," Hazel states, going back to her original plan of pouting. "What if I'm one kiss away from finding happiness, Calvin? If I end up alone I'm blaming you. You'll have to live with that for the rest of your life."

Calvin. CALVIN. Ana fixes him with a pout whenever he refuses. She even adds "But what if you forget all about us here and I never see you again?! HOW WILL I SURVIVE WITHOUT A KISS" She may be hanging out with Micah too much...

"Go kiss Todd instead," Calvin suggests, keeping his nose in his Hermeticism book. "Kiss him twice. I promise the letters I write will be far better for rememberin' me by than any kisses I could give you."

Look, Ree is not going to force a kiss if he truly doesn't want one. That would be fucked up.

However she is going to keep asking him. "Come on, pleeeeease don't let yourself be cursed, I'll be so sad thinking about you being cursed, it doesn't have to be ME that kisses you..." etc.

"I want to be cursed," he insists. Calvin's only become more dedicated to this as the day's worn on. He lies back on the grass and rests his open textbook over his face, so his voice is muffled as he speaks. "I'll kiss you a million times tomorrow. In fact, I'll kiss anyone tomorrow. But not today." He's almost certainly not going to be willing to kiss anyone tomorrow, but for the sake of comedic hyperbole, he doesn't correct himself.

"One, that makes me feel less that special," Ree says, flopping out on her stomach next to him so that she can pluck a piece of grass and try to slide it under his book in order to tickle his ear with it. "Two, watch out or I'll actually make you kiss me a million times." A pause as she considers. "No. Impossible. A hundred, though."

"Fine, I will kiss you and only you a hundred times, but not until tomo—ah!" Calvin yelps and scrambles to sit up as the blade of grass gets right in his ear. The textbook tumbles to his lap and he rubs at his head, but the sensation is deep in his skull where he can't get at it. In retribution, he tears up a handful of grass and tosses it harmlessly at Ree's head.

"You're terrible," he says, and clearly doesn't mean it even a little bit.

Ree cannot stop laughing. She rolls onto her back, giggling maniacally and getting herself more covered in grass than Calvin's little handful could have hoped to. "I'm wonderful," she manages after a minute, "and so are you, and you love me very much even if you won't kiss me because you want to be lonely next year without me."
