Zach doesn't usually get much mail, actually. He writes home sometimes, but his parents are pretty busy, and his brother is always off on some adventure or another. He wasn't really expecting anything today, birthday or no. So this comes as an exciting surprise! He opens the gift carefully, trying not to tear the paper regardless of wrapping quality.

......... oh! Oh, it's a book! From Sam! Hi, Sam! He flips it over to the back, then reads the inside cover. Zach hasn't read this, but he has heard of the Essex, sort of. He knows they got ATTACKED by a WHALE, anyway. Wait a second, did Sam MEAN to get him a book about drowning?

Anyway, Zach starts reading immediately. Someone, please drag him to class. And Sam, brace yourself for an enthusiastic thank you. He loves it.

The drowning thing is coincidental. It's becoming a movie this year and it's action and adventure and she thought he might like it BESIDES it's a whale attack and they FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL not just all drown right? Right?
