DATE AUCTIONS

As lunch comes to a close, everyone but Event Committee is shooed out of the auditorium. When they're allowed back in an hour later, the stage has been pulled out and decorated to look like the deck of a pirate ship. Yancey Montgomery has gone all out with their pirate costume and is dressed as the captain. They announce they're here at Gooseberry to auction off some lovely singles from across the seven seas.

There are some questionably pirate themed refreshments, which include home-made root beer. Students mill about socializing as they wait for someone that catches their eye. Meanwhile, everyone being auctioned off sits in a waiting area blocked off by a cardboard "cage". They sip their own root beer and sit on some couches and chairs that were dragged behind the "bars".

HOW THIS WORKS

• Although this IC/OOC is going up on Friday, in game canon it's taking place Saturday afternoon. Please don't reference this event until Saturday, October 7.


• The cutoff for bids will be Saturday evening, 10:00 PM MT.


• The winners will be posted Sunday morning, 10:00 AM MT.


• Event Committee members are dressed up as pirates unless they opted to be bid upon, in which case they can dress however they like. The level of detail in their costumes might vary from the highly passionate to the barely tolerant.


• Winners enter an agreement with their prospective date that they'll more or less spend the evening together, but it's pretty informal. They're not required to be their boyfriend/girlfriend in the weeks leading up to the dance, and Mr. Hightower emphasizes to the prospective dates and bidders that no one is entitled to anything they're not comfortable with. This segues into a short lecture on consent with a piracy backdrop. He's wearing an eyepatch and a fake parrot on his shoulder.


• You can respond to characters being auctioned with IC reactions even if you don't want to bid! Just don't fill out the form when you respond and your character's comment will not count as a bid.


• The mods are not responsible for how many bids your character gets. We hope everyone has fun and gets plenty of attention, but that's out of our hands. If your character isn't received the way you had hoped, we ask that you handle it gracefully and not guilt trip your fellow players about it. The same applies to whether or not your bidders win the dates you wanted! Thanks for always being such good sports about these kinds of things. ♥

IF YOUR CHARACTER IS BIDDING

• Your characters may bid on as many people as they want, but they can only win one date.


• If your character is bidding but you don't want them to be in the running, or if they made a ludicrously low bid, don't fill out a form, just reply to the auctionee with a regular old roleplaying comment. It's assumed anyone who fills out a form will be okay with going to the dance with who they're bidding on!


• Use some suspension of disbelief when it comes to who had the money to win. Just because Linda is wealthy and Dana is poor, it doesn't mean that Linda will automatically win because you said she put down a grand.


• Not everyone who bids will get a date! We can't guarantee that every player who participates in bidding will win someone. We always do our best to spread the love, but the numbers may not line up here with so many factors in the mix.

» BEFORE THE AUCTION: Before the auction begins, there's what passes for a party as students mill about and drink root beer. Event Committee has pulled out the stage sometimes used for performers, and they've decorated it to look like the deck of a pirate ship. How are they feeling about this?: Well, Spencer's having a bit of a rough time deciding what to do with himself in wake of his breakup with Micah, and then... kissing Ira. Rather than make a decision and face his problems, he's decided to jump into the auction pool! Spencer struggles with being SUPER INDECISIVE sometimes, so someone else needs to tell him who he's going to the dance with, please and thanks.
How do they behave onstage?: Spencer made sure to do a really nice job on his eyeliner today. He's wearing all his plumage, which is heavy on the leather, is mostly black, and strategically torn in several places. He struts on stage confidently, and poses in a way he definitely hopes is hot. All the while he's paying attention to everyone who does and does not decide to bid on him, so that later on he can obsess over it!
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Spencer makes it clear this will definitely be a date date. No "just friends" bullshit here. He's gonna show you a good time. Uh, a PG rated good time, Mr. Hightower, he promises. Nothing inappropriate! All the same, you get the impression that going to the dance with Spencer might lead to making out behind some Halloween decorations later in the night.
Anything else?: He's garbage, well suited for anyone who wants to have a fun, trashy time. He'll definitely mega make out with his date if they want to.

Jeffy Key!!

How are they feeling about this?: LIKE, pretty great?? Just by virtue of being Jeffy, where EVERYTHING is pretty great?? There is probably not a single person in this school that he's going to be mad bids on him, and while he kind of hopes Essie bids on him, he doesn't show any hesitation throwing himself to the wolves here.
How do they behave onstage?: Jeffy didn't realize people were going to be doing pirate things!! Everyone looks so cool!! He manages to get a freshman (named, like, LAZER or something awesome??) with a much smaller head to loan him a pirate hat that wants to topple right off. It goes well with his basketball shorts and generic jersey for whatever sports teams Jeffy likes. He spins and dances around because he has a lot of energy and it's fun up here. Sometimes he stops and waves at his friends. Hi guys!! Who are you here to bid on!! (Stop trying to start a conversation while being auctioned, Jeffy)
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Uhhh fun??? It doesn't have to be anything more than FRIENDLY FUN and DANCING. It's literally no pressure!! But he'll go along with whatever kind of costume you have in mind if you want to match!!!

Cameron Carney

How are they feeling about this?: Cameron is always excited for the chance to be at the center of attention on stage! He also can’t think of many people he’d be upset to go to the dance with, so he’s happy to have anyone win him.
How do they behave onstage?: Cameron didn’t have to dress to theme, but he did. He’s dressed in a colorful parrot costume with a transfigured beak nose. He’s broken out the unicycle again, and he cycles in circles around the stage, playing a cover of the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song on guitar.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Cameron promises to be a FUN date! He doesn’t promise mega makeouts, but he winks and waggles his eyebrows at the crowd every so often, and makes kissy faces at his favorite people if they bid, implying that he’d be a fun date if you’re into that.
Anything else?: Tall bag of trash for sale.

Dance Commander CASEY Patterson

Name: CASEY Patterson
How are they feeling about this?: Q: Has Casey ever dreaded anything in his life??? (A: No.) He expects Riley will hold up her end of the bargain because this is the only possible way he'd agree to have a date to anything, ever. If he ever gets married he's going to deny that his partner is his date.

How do they behave onstage?: Casey struts up to I Need a Hero in a turtleneck, which is very thematic and a classic Casey piece. He acts like he was made for a stage despite this: the audience gets kisses! flexing! and eyebrow-wiggles! Most importantly, the audience gets dancing! None of you should be surprised.

What do they say a date like them would be like?: He hams it the fuck up for the crowd even though he and Riley already have an agreement. The biggest thing he brings to the table is his dance moves, which he describes as SICK and EXPERIENCED — and demonstrates by whipping off the oppressive sweater (Ursula said he could!) and twerking against Cameron, as though his beanpole friend was just a pole. Then he turns to Hightower, announces "Don't worry, Mr. H, I got consent before the show!", winks and finger-guns.

Somebody's going to have to pull him off with a stage hook. Make this idiot walk the plank. Please, anything to save us from this display.

Anything else?: Dance Legend has it that only one Dance Person per Dance Generation is born with the Dance Skills to twerk to Bonnie Tyler. Casey believes it's Casey.

CONCORDIA KNIGHT

How are they feeling about this?: The only thing they are dreading is either being not bid on at all, or being bid on as a joke and being publicly made fun of. Concordia is pretty laid back about the whole thing internally but being up on stage and being laughed off it is like one of the worst things to ever happen ok? So please don't laugh at her! Otherwise, she's as SPIRIT-DRIVEN as EVER and she is totally excited to help out Event Committee, raise money for the dance, and you know, get a date! Because that could be fun!

How do they behave onstage?: She's definitely dressed to impress. Not in her normal laid back clothes, she's trying to look nice! Get bids! Etc! On stage, she's on it. She's smiling and waving and presents herself well. SHE IS a Cheer Squad member on the best Cheer Squad, after all. She even probably dances a little. You know, to show she CAN dance!

What do they say a date like them would be like?: A date with Concordia Knight would be full of fun! Excitement! Delicious food! Concordia promises to cook the lucky winner a full meal the night before the dance, and even as just a Soph her cooking prowess is known at least a little bit by at least the people in Magical Rudiments with her so they might realize that's a good thing! Homecooked meals are sexy, right? A way to anyone's heart is through their stomach etc? She is ready to bring the fun and energy to the date and they will dance the night away, laughing and joking and generally having a good time. Also, Dia promises to not be a dance tyrant and their date doesn't have to dance with just her!

Anything else?: That's pretty much it!

Addy Foster-Hayes

How are they feeling about this?: She’s mostly doing this for Ursula and EC and because she’s easy with her time. All dates will be accepted and loved on, to various degrees. Addy still holds guilt about spiking the punch at this dance last year...so this is reparations for a criminal act as well. Fitting, for a pirate, kinda.
How do they behave onstage?: This theme is so cute? She didn’t have like actual pirate clothes on short notice, so she just is thematic in an off the shoulder blouse, hair wild and “sea swept”. She DOES bring Flirty Addy up to play again, and she isn’t shy. She’s all warm little smiles and winks at everyone who even looks like they might bid. She’ll also not be shy about stopping down to look at people in the crowd to wave and say how pretty their hair or whatever looks.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: She will stress that she is not just about business; she’s in for whatever kind of date you’re comfortable with. She will dance until you die! She has re-hydration potions so you can dance even longer! She will chatter your ear off or not talk at all, but it WILL be fun, and she DOES know fun. (That is stressed.) .

Prince Todd

How are they feeling about this?: HE HAS ABSOLUTELY NO REGARD FOR CONSEQUENCES. If "Fortitude, but for social embarrassment instead of bludgers" was a stat here, he'd have FOUR stars. He's just here to have fun and he HOPES get some POSITIVE attention. The idea of nobody bidding on him or someone he doesn't like bidding on him hasn't occurred to him.
How do they behave onstage?: Very princely. He's a large ham and can get into any acting role with gusto. If anyone else wants to do in-character goofs with him, he's game for it.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Todd didn't realize that he'd have to give a speech and stumbles through this portion of the evening in a facepalm-worthy manner. He'll... pay for dinner? That means nothing. The food here is included in tuition. Seriously, though, it'll be a great time. He promises.
Anything else?: Does he seem a little jumpy tonight? Maybe. He's secretly keeping an eye out for that ghost girl. She seems like the grand romantic gestures type.

Wealthy Heiress Ursula de Luca

How are they feeling about this?: Feeling good and hoping Nia and Ferdie are on the lookout for her ideal freshmen companion, though she supposes she could compromise for a cute upperclassman.
How do they behave onstage?: When it's her turn to be introduced, Ursula shoos away the previous student and takes her place on the stage like she owns it. And she never turns down a chance to dress up like a princess, so she's playing up her role as the wealthy heiress with some proper vintage glamour. She's clearly enjoying herself, lightly flirting with the audience all the while maintaining her usual faint air of smugness, as if she's daring anyone to bid on her.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Escorting Ursula de Luca to a dance is a rare privilege. As for the nature of the date, that's open to further negotiation once a winner has been determined.
Anything else?: She's counting on all of you to make her tons of money. (Don't disappoint her!! Big smiles!! Look sexy!!)

Cole Moss

How are they feeling about this?: Cole's not certain how he feels about being part of the auction but Hazel said that he should do it and Ennis said that he should do it and that's reason enough for him. And it might be good to have someone to dance with, anyway.
How do they behave onstage?: Cole didn't know that there would be a theme or that he'd be expected to do anything (had they told him when he'd signed up? ...probably), so he shows up looking like he typically does: dressed in nothing nicer than jeans and a hoodie with rolled up sleeves, with his hair slightly unkempt and his hands dotted with ink or paint or something, and his disposition mellow. Still, he's noticed what the others are doing and attempts to make an appropriate showing. He pulls his hoodie over his head (don't worry, there's a t-shirt under there), pushes back his dark hair, and gives a brief show of dancing, improvising neat and fluid steps along to whatever music the Event Committee has on. He's surprisingly good at it and, almost as an afterthought, ends on a trick that Hazel taught him. That's enough, right? Then he goes to pick up his discarded sweatshirt.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Cole just wants to enjoy the dance and everyone says it's better to go with someone else. So. He'll go with someone else. He'd like someone to dance with too. Oh, and he can help make costumes and do makeup or hair and the rest. He really likes that stuff! The boy delivers this information with direct, plain earnestness. He's not trying all that hard to sell himself and it's unclear what he expects to get out of this except some company. Probably nothing.
Anything else?: Cole will make a point of offering Calvin or Zach small smiles if he catches their eyes while he's up there. The former in an attempt to convey how definitely okay he is and the latter because...well. He's not sure on that.

CAPTAIN CASTILLO

Name: Jaime Castillo
How are they feeling about this?: Pretty good!! As far as Jaime is concerned, this is a pretty low-stress situation for him, mostly because he hasn't actually thought about what he'll do if someone he doesn't want to wins. For now this is all consequence free~
How do they behave onstage?: Jaime is grinning from ear to ear and will definitely flex and ham it up if anyone hoots or hollers. He's wearing what he normally wears, but with the addition of a really poorly made paper sailor hat. Why doesn't he just ask for someone's help with these things??? It's a mystery.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Jaime promises fun!!! Dancing!!! At least two (2) twirls and one (1) dip during said dancing! He also promises to carry whoever wins as much as they want during the night. He has clearly not thought this promise through at all.

FAMED FORTUNETELLING PHENOM HERO

Name: Hieronymus Lee
How are they feeling about this?: Despite this being a somewhat misguided attempt to impress Ursula and/or not get shown up by Todd, Hero quickly warmed to the ridiculousness of the situation. This boy likes an audience. Also, this may be the most practical way to suss out the wealthiest women in the audience.
How do they behave onstage?: Hero doesn't have much in the way of sexy clothing or a fun costume, so attitude will have to carry him today. Attitude and a black hooded cloak that's the staple of any wizard's wardrobe, which he dramatically sweeps aside to reveal... a flashing crystal ball!!! A rune-covered tea cup, which he pours onto the stage, and the hot tea vanishes into purple steam!!! And his signature Lenormand cards, which Hero fans in one hand. The gilt edges of the cards sparkle under the auditorium lights.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Aside from being the kind of sweet hardworking boy your mother would love for you to be bring home, Hero promises a free fortune reading from a totally legitimate Seer. Any problem that worries you, he knows the answers!!!!!!
Anything else?: He practised for hours to make this look cool. It's... not really that cool.

Ennis Harper

Name: Ennis Harper
How are they feeling about this?: NERVOUS. WHY DID HE VOLUNTEER FOR THIS?? He keeps having to remind himself that this is for a good cause.
How do they behave onstage?:
Ennis is relying on his costuming skills rather than his personality to earn himself bids. He fully embraced his theme and, inspired by his recent viewing of Pan's Labyrinth, he decided to dress as a Satyr Druid. Some of the pieces were borrowed, some were recently made, and some were already part of his wardrobe.

He is a sight to behold, towering on his elevated cloven hooves and using a long wooden staff (that Yancey helped make!!) to help keep himself balanced, although he's surprisingly good at walking without assistance. A pair of mossy ram horns are attached to a headband that's hidden beneath his curled and meticulously messy hair, and his ears are elongated and sloped like a faun's. The costume makeup he wears is heavy and flattering, as far as Satyr go, but his own features are mostly lost beneath it. Which is... sort of how he likes it.

As he steps onto the stage, he at least looks confident although it's mostly because he feels hidden under a mask. Ennis does a neat twirl with his staff and takes on a battle stance, but he has no other fancy tricks to show. He'll let his costume speak for his talents.

What do they say a date like them would be like?:
Shit. He forgot he has to say nice things about himself. The question throws him off guard and he anxiously wrings his hands around his staff as he speaks to the audience in a soft and shy voice, "Um... So... I'm not a very good dancer?" REALLY SELLING IT!! "I want to be honest about that, but I'll definitely give it my all? Um, but... So..."

Ugh, God, being on stage like this is nightmare fuel. He tries to look anywhere but at the crowd and ends up fixing his gaze on Hightower's fake parrot. "I think we could have a lot of fun making costumes together? I'll help you make any costume you want, to the best of my ability. And I'll cook for you? Or bake...!! I'm no Cecil, but it tastes pretty good? Um-- so-- yeah... Okay. Thanks!"

Aced it.

He returns to his pose as the bidding begins, looking way better with his mouth closed.

Susana Velasquez

Name: Ana, the sassy jock
How are they feeling about this?: She's feeling pretty good! She's not doing this to get a specific bid or get attention or anything else. It seemed like fun when she heard about it, and she figured why not? Let's rock this auction!
How do they behave onstage?: Ana isn't overly dressed up, but she's not looking like a slouch either. Cute top, maybe cropped for added ~allure~. Fitted jean shorts. Hair and makeup on point, but not trashy. More her party attire. She struts around, being flirty and sassy and completely at home with all eyes on her. She'll blow kisses, wink, and work those hips. She's definitely not shy about being up there.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: A date with Ana will be nothing short of fun. There's no pressure, except maybe the pressure to have the best time! She won't cling or expect you to dote on her, but she will be attentive and make sure you have fun. It's Halloween, not a wedding. Might as well live it up!
Anything else?: Nope!

Phineas Bones

How are they feeling about this?: Absolutely fine, lol. He still only knows a handful of people very well at all, so there's no one he exactly dreads or knows to dread, and no one he especially wants either. He'll have fun no matter what happens.
How do they behave onstage?: Phin looks... pretty much like he just got out of bed, apart from some very expensive looking oxfords. He struts around and will call out to people who look like they're interested. Once or twice he does a handstand, and he's better at it than he looks like he should be. He also has a heavily charmed slinky-like object that he does weird tricks with, like so. He appears to think this is a great time.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Phin says he's "all yours," which appears up for interpretation. He adds some standard stuff about fun and entertainment. Show him how things are done here in these United States. He promises he cleans up well.

Officer of the law Olivia Sanchez

How are they feeling about this?: Cool, calm and collected. There isn't really anyone Olivia would dread. But first and foremost she is doing this for event committee. Despite being up for bidding, she sticks with the pirate thing, working her outfit up a bit, to make it more sexy, while strictly school appropriate. .
How do they behave onstage?: olivia isn't extremely over invested in this, but she definitely struts her stuff. She works the crowd and hams it up, and flexes one second, while posing like a sexy pirate that could cut you off at the knees if she wanted to the next second.
What do they say a date like them would be like?: Olivia doesn't commit to an actual date or a super casual date. It's literally whatever y'all paying want. It'll be fun. It'll be upbeat, there'll be dancing and food and competition if you want. She's not trying to stress this.
Anything else?: I was gonna do this way earlier but then I took a nap.
