DATE AUCTIONS: RESULTS

HOW THIS WORKS

• You can roleplay scenes on this post or otherwise react to the results as though your characters got this news yesterday, Oct 7, at the auction itself.


• This isn't a legally binding contract, and your characters are obviously still allowed to pursue other people and get into other romance shenanigans despite the matches.


• If your characters do anything like trade dates or back out of the match, just let the mods know so that we're aware of which characters have access to the "VIP treatment" at the Halloween Dance.


• If your to-be-auctioned character didn't post, they didn't get bids and therefore have no date. :( It's assumed they didn't participate.


• We'll update this list when pending matches are confirmed.

Okay, okay, that's enough. Ego be damned, Ursula's happy to let someone else take home the 'most expensive prize' title if it means getting to spend the evening with her first second top choice of companions, inappropriate number of toes and all.

And so after a few more bids, Ursula abruptly cuts the bidding short and declares Ferdie the winner.

Don't complain to her, she doesn't make the rules. Oh wait, yes, she does.

All of this is done with a very straight face, for Ferdie's benefit.

In a bid or so, he would've bowed out, and had already a little, sort of, been interpreting this as Nia telling him to do so. So it's with a small degree of panic that he realizes what's happening.

(If it can happen. Is she allowed to do that? She's probably allowed to do that, Ursula's in charge here.)

He has the presence of mind to give a sharp nod to Nia (well-fought, Nia,) before allowing himself half a smile, anyway.

Calvin should be careful what he wishes for.

There's a pause that lasts a mere three seconds where Calvin realises no one is outbidding him. And then the auction is called. They're saying his name. He's won. He's going to the dance with Todd Skynner, who in theory he'd wanted to go to the dance with all along.

Calvin feels as though somewhere along the line he severely miscalculated... but on the other hand, he has a date, right?

Todd in his natural state: confused and upset

So if this had all happened a few weeks ago, Todd would've been pretty convinced that Micah, Ramon, and Calvin were conspiring to humiliate him in public. But between the downright civil conversation he had with Calvin recently and the fact that he's pretty sure Calvin's got less money to kick around than Ramon does, Todd refocuses his ire on two of three targets.

Still, embarrassing.

Kind of. He guesses it's probably a good thing that he was a hot item, even if it was kind of a shitshow that lead to the final bid. He makes sure to track Calvin down after the auction.

"Thanks," he says, gesturing in Ramon's general direction and managing to sound at least half as petulant as he usually does.

Cole

Cole hadn't been anticipating a serious date and when he ends up being won by his friend and roommate that's just fine with him. He offers the other boy a small but easy smile. Because this will be fun and because he's pretty sure Ramon won't mind dancing with him some and because it'll probably be easier to plan out costumes this way anyway.

Sofia

Sofia blinks. What just happened? She hadn't intended on actually WINNING anyone, the bids she'd been throwing at everyone were just for fun. Now she suddenly found herself with a date and panic began to set in. ABORT ABORT!

Wait. She had won Phin, though. This could be more fun than she had anticipated. Alrighty, she's in! Let's do this.

Iliya waits for the ground to open up and swallow him whole.

There is no reasonable justification for this. Gryffindor impulsiveness, maybe. Combined with the encouragement (and deep pockets) of his best friend, plus a healthy dash of regret from his tendency to develop romantic feelings for literally every friend he has. In the moment, it seemed reasonable to throw in for someone he barely knows. Simpler. More practical.

Iliya sinks back into his chair and fights the urge to cover his face with his hands. The boy—Spencer—was incredibly unambiguous about what they were bidding for. And now that date-date is Iliya's. "Bozhe moi," he mutters.

Iliya waits for the ground to open up and swallow him whole.

Heyyyyy, it's Iliya! Obviously Spencer remembers their moment at the Grotto, and since then they've had some journal conversations. The perpetually brooding Ebonhide senior's not as icy as he seems, and must have liked the taste he got weeks ago. So... cool. Yeah. This is good.

He sticks his hands in his pockets and saunters over to the lucky winner. There's a flirtatious conversation impending.

ADDY

When they announce the winner, and whatever poor Nia ended up paying, Addy's eyes grow very large, and she falls into a stage whisper conversation with whoever's onstage to announce. "I mean, wait, I think I should pay something? Like. Shouldn't I? For my date, the head girl?? Oh my god."

She's absolutely winking at Nia out of the corner of her eye at the exact same time. This is what you won, Nia.

ADDY & NIA

An ordinary person - a good person - would think to themselves, Adeline Foster-Hayes deserves a kind, charming, poised and intelligent date to the dance.

Antonia Papadakis is none of these things. Which is why she bids and bids and keeps on bidding. And, oh, look at that, she just won the companionship of the smartest and prettiest girl in the school for an evening. Nia lets out a delighted squeal.

"I'm going on a date with the queen of the butterflies," Nia brags to the person standing next to her. Wrinkling her nose in delight before winking right back at Addy.

Essie predictably panicks

Oh. Oh no. Oh no no no. Essie hadn't meant to do that. It was just--. She just--. There was the pirate hat. And Jeffy. And then there were just words coming out of her mouth???

Why did everyone stop bidding??? Didn't they all want to go to the dance with Jeffy?!? That's why they'd all been bidding, right?!?!

She adjusts her new pirate hat accessory, doing a very poor job of not looking completely alarmed by what just happened. WHY did they all stop BIDDING?!?

She squirms in her seat a little more. Oh gosh, how was she ever going to face Jeffy ever again??? She should just quit the Quidditch team right now before Captain Jaime threw her off for RUINING TEAM HARMONY.

Essie & Jeffy are predictably awkward

Jeffy's already smiling at the crowd, SUPER happy all his friends are bidding on him! This is gonna be fun no matter what!! But when Essie bids (and how much did she bid?? Was the bidding up that high before she—know what, PROBABLY, not like Jeffy was SUPER paying attention), his smile gets, like, a little bit bigger. And when the auction is called THERE, he does an extra little spin before he leaves the stage. YOU KNOW, because he's really happy about how much MONEY they totally just raised for Event Committee!! This dance is gonna be great!! Because they raised money!!!

He heads over to Essie, but when he finds himself just a few feet away, he forgets what he was about to say?? Had he thought this through at all??? UH, UM. "HEY," he starts, which is good, it sounds normal(?? Why is he so worried about sounding NORMAL??), "The, uh, hat looks WAY better on you." That was—that was fine, that was perfectly fine, Jefferson, not weird at all.

Jaime

Jaime grins at Avery as she wins, very much appreciating being saved from the confusing bidding that was The Marie Pattersons - that could have been awkward. The other Quidditch captain, on the other hand, should be a fun, easy date! He thinks he's done a very good job, even though he's literally done nothing but strut around on the stage. He gives Avery a thumbs up.

Jaime

She hadn't expected to win, but she's happy nonetheless. She'd been careful with her bids and Jaime was one of the only people she would have wanted to take. When she does win out over the very odd and crazy bidding from all Marie Patterson's, she's a little shocked and, honestly, glad she got Jaime out of that strange situation. Jaime gives her a thumbs up and Avery responds with an enthusiastic grin and a thumbs up right back.

Also I (think I) know an alternative was never on the table but I breathed a probs audible sigh of relief when I saw Essie won Jeffy.


That was a rollercoaster.
