Thank you to all who attended and took part in duels in last week's Dueling and Fencing Club meeting. While we will still take spur of the moment volunteers, in the coming weeks we will plan randomised matchups to ensure wider and equal participation. We would dislike any of our members to feel excluded, and regardless of experience, I firmly believe everyone has something useful to bring to the floor, so to speak.

While this coming Wednesday's meeting will focus on Fencing, we will also be dedicating some time to self-defence maneuvers for use when one is left without a wand to defend themselves. [. . .] After last year's events I personally can say that a well-rounded arsenal to defend one's self is [. . .] crucial.

All this Halloween dance nonsense makes me feel the way those left behind on the homefront must have felt when their blokes or birds went off to fight Grindelwald in the war. I doubt I shall even attend, no matter how much I do adore Halloween.

What a silly thing to feel, but it cannot be helped. I suppose it is romantic has some strange sense of charm to it, but is grounded in nothing, which is most vexing.

Anything can be a weapon if used cleverly, but I suppose that is beside the point. All the same, I had no such silverware at my disposal, but believe I would have fared much worse were I not prepared to [. . .] defend my person physically.

If the club were not for personal growth and learning, we would have tryouts, and then there would be no club at all.

Confession: I am [...] uncomfortable at the prospect of being hit. Not with a spell, but with a fist. Any advice on getting past this? I've been through too much to hold onto this fear.

Oh, and Dimi wrote recently. He couldn't help but gush over how impressed he is that you're D&F president.

Spells cause more pain and damage than any punch I have ever received. It is natural for instinct to cause you to flinch or be fearful, but perhaps there is something about the ceremonial aspect of spellcasting or dueling that distracts you from fearing that pain? A mindfulness, so to speak. That is only my first thought.

He is far too kind, but I am glad he is impressed. [. . .] I wish he was here to see us lead meetings.
