AFTERMATH: October 18

This morning, all students wake up to see that their Head of House is present at the house campground. Ms. Rhee, Mr. Hightower, Mr. Merrill and Ms. Vector gather their prefects to get everyone out and do another head count. (Merrill never left since last night, of course, and is still wearing his pajamas throughout this whole process.) They officially determine that everyone is accounted for, and give thanks to all the prefects who acted quickly last night, and pardons for all the students who stayed in a different house overnight. Everyone is taken to the lodge for breakfast, no exceptions.

During breakfast, Headmistress Bloom stands up to make a speech about safety and student responsibility, emphasizing how unacceptable it is to threaten your peers, even for a "joke." Most pertinently, she emphasizes that curfew is being strictly enforced until further notice. Prefects must report immediately when their nightly head counts fall short. Anyone caught outside their campground after curfew is getting detention, no questions, and if it happens more than once, their parents will be contacted. Also, whether "certain actions" in the past week have been due to student pranks or something else (Bloom does not elaborate on the "something else," although she does pause), there will be a buddy system instated for at least the rest of the month. If you go anywhere outside of the lodge or your house campground, you must have at least one other person accompany you. No one will be allowed to leave the lodge without a buddy. And the Grotto, as ever, is forbidden.

After students are given leave to go to class, juniors in History of Magic notice that Reid Wainwright is absent this morning. Some might have spotted him leaving the lodge after breakfast when one of his roommates dragged him out, and also the both of them returning some time later, heading straight for Ms. Vector's office on the main floor. Sylvester Stoker goes in alone to speak to his Head of House, and the yelling which ensues is overheard by several freshmen.

By lunchtime, the rumours are all over the school. Sy Stoker was seen entering Vector's office carrying a bundled black robe and a plastic knife, and notoriously unforgiving Vector laid down the law. Being rumours, the details are unclear. Sy is reportedly either a) expelled, b) being temporarily suspended from the school, c) still here, but banned from all of his extracurriculars, including Quidditch, d) has detention until the end of time, or e) just fine, because it's Sylvester Stoker and he gets away with everything.

Sy is absent from his morning Artificing session, and also for lunch. Students may notice that a few teachers are absent during lunch as well, most notably Mrs. Bloom and all the Heads of House.

Rosy is a fucking TERROR today. As soon as she gets the SLIGHTEST WHIFF that Sy was involved, she started freaking out, looking for him or for any clues to either confirm or deny that fact. Reid's not in HoM? MOTHERFUCKER, IT'S TRUE, ISN'T IT?

She's distracted as fuck in class, got that million miles stare going on, and if anyone tries to talk to her, she either snaps at them or doesn't respond. Junior Ribbonfin girls, she also made a mess in the cabin. SORRY.

Levi's barely awake through the lecture but perks up at the mention of a Buddy System and his head immediately swivels to Diego, Cecil, Riley, and Chris as he mouths Buddies at them and waggles his pinkie finger. PUNISHMENT ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE FUN, LEVI.

Between sweeping for stragglers, checking for new traps, and staying up pacing in a very calm and definitely not at all angry way, Rafael didn't sleep much last night. He pays rapt attention during the announcements, but afterwards goes back to looking like he might fall asleep in his breakfast.

Henrietta doesn't take the announcement of the buddy system as well as Levi. "What the ever-loving fuck? Is she serious?"

On top of everything else, now Holden has to worry about finding a buddy, which means awkward social interaction and responsibility and potential of failure and looking stupid, which means he just sighs really heavily and eats his feelings for the rest of breakfast.

Katya, looking like utter hell for the first time in her life, straggled into breakfast still death gripped onto Riley. Without much of an appetite, she just listened and obviously already picked her buddy. Katya refuses to go to class and ends up in a blanket fort back at the cabin with whoever feels the need to hide with her.

Chloe didn't sleep much, but she's a night owl by nature, so she doesn't look much different than usual. She's wide eyed and fidgety, paying rapt attention, and when Bloom mentions something else, she casts a glance around to see if anyone else finds this extremely suspicious.

Tess is a morning person by nature, but this morning? She looks rough. Her eyes are bloodshot and her hair is sticking out in random directions. She's snippy, but if anyone points it out, she'll get all defensive and be like, "NO, I'M NOT. NOTHING'S WRONG. YOU'RE WHAT'S WRONG."

Wes is very non-reactive during the announcements and mentions of "something else" and curfews, tamping down any and all questions that are bugging him, and mostly just focuses on his coffee.

Okay but by the end of lunch Chris has heard the rumors about Sy so Sy will get about a hundred messages from Chris that falls along every scenario ending with some how effecting their quidditch season. Like IF YOU GET EXPELLED, WE'RE FUCKED FOR THIS YEAR and IF YOU GET BANNED FROM QUIDDITCH WE'RE FUCKED FOR THIS YEAR. Every message basically ends with 'we're fucked for this year'

When Calvin learns it's Sy, he's bitter as hell. OVER A YEAR OF BEING BULLIED BY THIS ASSHOLE, AND A STUPID PRANK IS WHAT FINALLY GETS HIM IN SERIOUS TROUBLE. He stews the entire time, completely unable to enjoy that Sy is finally facing some consequences.

(Truthfully, he's hurt that no one ever got this up in arms about his problems with Sy, but he's going to STIFF UPPER LIP this.)
