It's the day probably only one person has been waiting for: pop superstar Taylor Swift drops 1989, her latest album.

Tswift's #1 Superfan, Coppertale senior and resident Dance Commander Casey Patterson, put out an open invitation for all interested students to join him Tuesday afternoon at a listening party in the dance studio. The Coppersquad was informed that attendance is "mandatory."

Dancing is recommended.

» NEARLY EVERYTHING IC: This isn't the kind of thing that needs subsections. Like, guys, honestly? This shouldn't even have an IC/OOC at all. It doesn't deserve one. But I decided that we deserve some grade-A bullshit, so I made us some grade-A bullshirt.

» DANCE-OFF: Casey made some dumb badges. Most of them have the names of Taylor's songs, and 99% of them I haven't even figured out yet so we're playing this FAST AND LOOSE. Casey will hand you one if he thinks you danced with soul, and which one you get depends on an RNG number so really this is chaos.

Leave it to Ennis to bring snacks to a dance party. If there's no table available, he sets up his spread on one of the benches.

Ennis's own musical tastes are a fair bit more melancholy than Taylor Swift's country-pop style and he didn't really care for her previous albums, but he likes to stay up to date on pop culture trends and he's not passing up an opportunity to listen to the album everyone is going to be talking about it. Worst case, 1989 ends up being another twangy, soulful breakup album with a few fire hits like Red had and he gets to sit back and watch his friends dance their little hearts out. There's nothing to lose.

When the album starts off with Welcome To New York, he realizes this album is a break away from her country style and it's... actually very good!! He's impressed!! It's not enough to get him up and dancing, but he does tap his foot and bob his head to the beat. No need to embarrass himself on the dance floor.

Cordi always has fun when it comes to hanging out with people and dancing, but she's also trying way hard to fit in. She's pretty good about covering up how hard she's trying, but most people realize right off the bat that no one can be that peppy and happy all the time. Still, this doesn't impede her having fun throughout the night and as per Casey's request, she wears something T-Swift related, trying to emulate that "classic red lip" style.

She dances throughout the night, both to have fun but also definitely coveting the badges and wanting one, whatever they mean. She'll happily interact with anyone who approaches her and definitely at least has a small conversation with everyone there.

Also, she thinks the album is awesome.

Casey's only been waiting for today for his entire life so it's only, like, a super big deal. Everyone who arrives is met with a chest-bump, fist-bump, or palm-bump (which is a high five but it was weird alliteration and I was into it). He's dressed appropriately. He treats every song like His Jam and dances for 110% of the party — he was even like this when she was a straight-up country star, but now more people are willing to dance along, so it's kind of a big deal. I had more to say but, for the first time in my life, I forgot it. You're welcome.

Spencer isn't deviating from his normal style of dress, partially because he has an Image to maintain, and... also because he has nothing that looks even remotely Taylor Swift related. Later on in the party, he'll glibly remark that he's dressed thematically as the song Style.

Spencer is a fun and talented accessory for other dancers (and is honestly better at being someone's #2 than trying to go solo off the ice), but Ruby always gets first dibs on him.

Webster likes Taylor Swift. Webster is trying to put himself out there more. Webster is going to the Taylor Swift dance party.

He shows up holding a cowboy hat, which he immediately regrets when "Welcome To New York" starts. He tosses it into a bush. He will not be leaving with the hat. Nope. No one will know that he brought a cowboy hat to a dance party for the New Taylor. [...] But he does love that hat. Maybe he can say, "Who brought this hat?" when they pack up. "Maybe I should hold onto it in case someone comes looking for it later," he could say even quieter. That's what he'll do.

Putting the only-in-his-head hat drama behind him, Webster gives this album his full attention and... he's super into it. "Blank Space," "Style" and "Out of the Woods" are a solid run and by the time "Shake It Off" comes up, he's in full-dance mode. Spinning, shaking, twisting, and moving wildly he's having a blast. And he's happy to dance with anyone who shimmies his way.

Riley does actually show up in a cowboy hat. Kind of. Less because she was trying to go for any country theme (Riley's knowledge of pop culture and celebrities is less than one would think, just by, like, looking at her) and more because she thinks it's cute and fuzzy and perfect. This hat is the closest thing she'll ever have to a pet.

"Hey gurl," Riley greets her fellow Azurcrest, fixing her hat as she pops up from a cartwheel at his side. "You ready to get that twerk on?"

Now that is an entrance. And what a hat! Webster has never tried to twerk before but he's having fun and he knows Riley from around Azurcrest and the cheer team and thinks she's cool -- c'mon that entrance. So, what the hell, he'll give it a go. "Let's do it!"

He tries to twerk and is actually half-decent at a slow speed, but whenever he picks up the pace his body becomes overwhelmed and everything grinds to a stop. He laughs and turns to Riley.

"Help."

Oh boo boo, you are in the right place for some twerkin' tips. At least, Riley thinks you are. She and Casey did run a guerilla twerkshop before prom last year... though that WAS mostly so they could show off. Still, as a self-proclaimed expert, she is obligated to help those less fortunate in the booty shaking department.

"Step one, ain't nobody got time for shame," she says, "so if you got any, shake that shit off." Does she know she's paraphrasing one of the songs here? It could honestly just be a coincidence. "Step two, get low. Like super low. The lower the better."

She's probably teaching him the worst possible form and we're all very sorry for that.

Webster cares about doing thing correctly. So when Riley starts offering up instruction, he listens.

First step is to not feel shame. Alright, easy enough. This feels like a non-judgmental group of people.

Step two is to get low. Webster spreads his legs and gets low. "Lower the better." Webster stands, hitches up his pants, and gets lower. He's very low. To the point where he's in fact having trouble standing back up. But, in a fortunate (?) twist, his struggle to stand actually resembles a person twerking. He looks up at Riley, hopes she doesn't see through him, and gives her a slightly-strained smile that attempts to ask, "How am I doing?"

Name: Concordia Knight
How were their moves?: While her dancing is more aligned with salsa, tango, and even ballroom - she moves really naturally and does her best to emulate a more current, T-swift like style. It may not always be on point, but her rhythm definitely is. She has no reservations when she dances and isn't even remotely shy about it. And to answer the question, booty's are shaken not stirred.
Anything else?: I spiraled into watching videos of Honey 2 and none of them are good portrayals of Seychelle Gabriel dancing and now I'm sad.

Name: The Sweetest Boy (opinions may vary)
How were their moves?: Spencer only started picking up modern dance styles from Ruby and cheer, and he's not great at improvising. However, he regurgitates moves taught to him with charm and precision, shuffles them around, and gets moving. He's a ham, and he's also making a point of joking and flirting with all the other dancers. All of them. Even the ones who are seeing someone.
Anything else?: I looked up videos of his PB dancing and they're mostly unexciting so here's a silly one.

Name: Stamps
How were their moves?: Riley twerks, and it's better than any dancing Taylor Swift has ever even dreamed of doing. If you think Riley can't twerk to this entire album, you are sorely, pitifully mistaken.
Anything else?: I honestly don't even know what songs are on this album but I have faith in my garbage girl's ability to twerk to literally anything with noise.

Name: Hard Knox
How were their moves?: Let's give Webster a 5 for coordination and 8 for enthusiasm. For a generally reserved person, Webster is more than happy to let loose when he dances. He's the type of guy who closes his eyes and just lets his limbs moooove to the music.
Anything else?: Webster's dancing hero is Elaine from Seinfeld.

Name: Todd Skynner
How were their moves?: Ssssseven? He's been learning how to dance for mascot-related reasons so his moves are probably pretty over the top.
Anything else?: He does have an unfair style advantage

i know this is tomorrow but it's a silly thing and most of my tomorrow is taken up by teaching so i thought i'd throw it up tonight and i hope it doesn't get me kicked out of the game. :(((
