DRAMA AUDITIONS: The Hunger

DRAMA AUDITIONS:
The Hunger

With a new president at the helm of the club, this year's productions promise to be... interesting. The hopeful actors file into the auditorium and are greeted by a very excited Micah, and a bemused Mrs. Acuña.

HOW THIS WORKS

  • This production is a Micah St. Clair original! Brief character descriptions and monologues were released to students several hours before auditions, but this will mostly be a cold read.

  • Fill out the form below if your character is either auditioning or applying to be in the crew.

  • Casting will be gender blind. Your character may audition for any role.

  • The cast list will be posted a week from today.

  • The mods will select the cast list based on your character's audition, IC suitability, and activity. We'll also be spreading out roles and leads to as many players as possible, so keep that in mind if you have multiple characters auditioning.

  • While you do not need to be in Drama or Choir to audition, some preference will be given to people in Drama Club.

  • During their auditions, students will ask to recite a short monologue.

  • And as always, there are no guarantees, and if a lot of people audition, not all of them will get a part.

PREMISE & AVAILABLE PARTS

Sypnosis
No-Maj family patriarch Lucian Pennelegion has died, and his family and friends gather at the remote Wolfscliff Manor to remember him. His widow demands that they all participate in a seance. A storm descends, trapping them all for the night. What begins as an interpersonal family drama quickly turns bloody and disturbing as the bodies start piling up.
Character Bios

[Bios are arranged roughly in order of most to least lines in the play.]

Verity Pennelegion • Female, 21 • The Middle Sister

About: The female lead. Long estranged from the family, this is her first time back in the Manor since she was a girl. Intelligent and independent, she’s spent several years travelling the world. Verity is cold to everyone except her sisters, whom she loves more than anything else. As horrible events unfold over the course of the night, Verity ventures out into the dark to stop the evil that’s preying on them.

She always wears gloves, and it’s later revealed that one is a magic glove that conceals a metal hook on her left arm. The grisly story of how Verity lost her hand has everything to do with the dark secrets of Wolfscliff Estate.

Monologue: “Do not condescend to me, Mr. Killigrew. I have seen things you would not believe, and I assure you, monsters are real.” Verity recounts all the horrors and impossible things she’s encountered on her travels, and why she believes something unearthly is stalking them.

Thomas Killigrew • Male, 24 • The Companion

About: The male lead. Childhood best friend of Linton. Thomas is often exasperated by Linton’s selfishness and get-rich-quick schemes, but he’s steady and loyal to a fault. He came to Wolfscliff Manor because Linton and Felicity are planning to elope in the morning, and Thomas is supposed to serve as their witness.

He is instantly smitten with Verity upon meeting her, and despite her rebuffing him, he insists on accompanying her as she searches for what’s killing them one by one. Unlike everyone else in the manor, Thomas is a wizard, and keeps it a secret from everyone except Linton and Verity.

Monologue: “A seance? I swear, Linton, the things I do for you.” Thomas muses over the absurdity of taking part in a Muggle seance, and his long, frustrating friendship with Linton.

Amity Carrington • Female, 25 • The Older Sister

About: Wife of Midas. Amity hasn’t been able to visit her parents in a few years as she’s been preoccupied with raising her twin sons. She genuinely grieves the loss of her father. She’s resentful and jealous that Verity ran away from home and had a life filled with adventures, while Amity’s had to raise screaming children with an increasingly apathetic husband. The reconciliation between Amity and Verity is the heart of the play.

More than she seems. Must be willing to get bloody and physical.

Monologue: “And what about me? What’s my reward? For being the good daughter, the one who never left, the one who did everything right?” Amity expresses frustration over being constantly underappreciated.

Felicity Pennelegion • Female, 18 • The Youngest Sister

About: Fiancee of Linton. Felicity is shy and sheltered, and desperately wants to see the world. She idolizes Verity, but is afraid of demonstrating it too obviously, in case Amity disapproves. Although she’s secretly in love with someone else, Felicity sees eloping with Linton as her ticket to freedom.

When the seance goes wrong, a demon takes over Felicity’s body, and she warns them all that their selfish actions have brought evil down on their heads. The ability to contort yourself in unnatural-looking ways is a bonus.

Monologue: “This is on you! And you, and you, and you!” Midway through the monologue, Felicity transforms from an uncertain, soft-spoken girl to an angry demon.

Lyonette Pennelegion • Female, 50’s • The Mother

About: Widow of Lucian, and mother to Amity, Verity and Felicity. Lyonette appears emotional and unhinged, still wildly grieving the loss of her beloved husband. She claims to be seeing ghosts, and forces her whole family to participate in seance to contact his spirit and get his final wishes. In truth, Lyonette is having an affair with Healer Prentice, and may have had a hand in killing her husband. But could she really have been justified…?

Monologue: “I had to do it! I had to! How can you judge me when you don’t know what I’ve been through?” Lyonette offers her justifications for committing murder.

Midas Carrington • Male, 30 • The Husband

About: Husband of Amity. The most obviously despicable person in the house, Midas drinks too much, is callous and dismissive to his wife, and creeps on Jessie Dainty. Someone you want to see get murdered the second he shows up, but survives into the third act. Seeking a comedic actor who wants to try their hand at playing a mustache-twirling villain, but will look at other interpretations.

Monologue: “What a woman she used to be! So exciting, so eager to please. Now it’s nothing but diapers and nagging. Ah, I’m too young to settle down!” Midas laments how unexciting his marriage has become.

Linton Worsley • Male, 23 • The Suitor

About: Fiance of Felicity. Handsome and high-spirited, Linton is exactly the sort of young man you’d imagine as the hero in a romance novel. He’s also impulsive and self-centered, and at first appears to only be marrying Felicity for her money. But as the events of the night unfold, Linton demonstrates greater bravery and moral fiber than you’d expect. Still kind of an idiot, though.

Monologue: “First of all, ghosts aren’t real. Second, neither are monsters. Third, I’m supposed to get married tomorrow! This is my only good suit, and it’s covered in blood!” Linton loses his cool.

Jessie Dainty • Female, 19 • The Maid

About: Jessie was taken in by the Pennelegion family as a young girl and has served them dutifully for years. It’s only through Jessie’s impassioned pleading that the evil spirit stops possessing Felicity. She and Felicity are secretly in love, and Jessie is upset with her for agreeing to a sham marriage to please society, instead of running away to be with Jessie.

Monologue: “Please, Miss Felicity, it’s Jessie. Don’t you remember how we played together as children? How you promised we would be together forever?” Jessie pleads with a possessed Felicity, while struggling not to reveal the truth of their relationship to everyone listening.

Bernard Prentice • Male, 50’s • The Doctor

About: The live-in physician who cared for Lucian Pennelegion in the final years of his life, and become his most trusted friend. He is in love with Lyonette, and broke his sacred oath in order to slowly poison and kill her husband. Bernard is fussy and not especially strong-willed, and suffers the most gruesome death by far. Must be willing to scream in pain for a long time.

Monologue: “Oh god! Oh man! Oh god! Oh man! I’m being eaten alive!” Self-explanatory.

Sinclair • Male, 40’s • The Traveller

About: A hermit who lives in the surrounding woods, who comes to Wolfscliff Manor when he hears of a creature stalking its human inhabitants. In the past, he served as butler for the Pennelegions, and has a strange history with Verity. He looks really rugged and cool, carries a huge machete, and totally gets murdered when you least expect it. (Except you just read this, so now you are going to expect it. Huh.)

Monologue: Sinclair describes stories about an evil slumbering under where Wolfscliff Manor was built. It’s exposition-heavy and goes into a lot of nonsense like the Necronomicon and cursed burial grounds.

Madame Calyptra • Female, 30’s • The Psychic

About: A spiritualist contracted by Lyonette to call the recently deceased family patriarch. Madame Calyptra is a con artist who quickly loses control of her seance when an evil spirit unexpectedly takes hold of Felicity. Frightened by what just took place, Calyptra insists on fleeing from the Manor during the storm, and is the first guest to be killed.

Monologue: Calyptra, in full exaggerated spiritualist mode, calls the dead to her during the seance, and pretends to channel Lucian Pennelegion’s displeased ghost.

Dorinda Pennelegion • Female, 70’s • The Grandmother

About: Mother of Lucian Pennelegion. Her coherence has decayed over the years, and she spends most of her time sitting in her rocking chair and delivering vague, ominous pronouncements. However, Grandmama is the only person who knows the full truth of what’s happening in Wolfscliff Manor.

Monologue: It’s a list of vague statements like “This house was built on bones and blood!” and “They’re heeeeere!” Also, as an instruction: “Demonstrate your best scary cackle.” A rocking chair will be provided for you, so you can convincingly act in a rocking chair.

Non-speaking Roles

  • Evil demons, which appear during the seance

  • Ghosts, to haunt Lyonette while she’s hallucinating

  • Trees, which surround Wolfscliff Manor

riledup: ((t) introducing RILEY MAE)

Riley Mae

[personal profile] riledup 2017-11-08 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Riley Mae Stamper
Year: Senior
Are they in Drama?: Hell yes.
Are they applying to be crew?: God no.
Preferred Roles: One of the gay ones Riley's preferences are: Felicity Pennelegion, Jessie Dainty, Madame Calyptra. I have no preference OOC, Riley doesn't deserve nice things.
Skill: Riley is LOUD, Riley is UNINHIBITED, Riley doesn't understand why she doesn't get to wear a sheer nightgown??? While Riley has never been one to really dig in to her character and motivations, and sometimes seems to just check out when someone else is monologuing, she is not shy, and she's very enthusiastic and she's also, like, kind of flexible? She's no contortionist, but she is a tumbler and willing to do anything for attention. Also, she has enough range to play Tall.
Their Audition: Cold reads are NOT Riley's strong suit, but she blunders through, seemingly unconcerned with the fact that she just dropped like four lines. She'll pick them up in a second. The exact order of these words doesn't, like, really matter, right? She has a lot of energy (the result of like four Red Bulls and pixy stix, her good luck lunch!!) and makes up for any fuck ups by going over the top with her acting, demanding attention every time she's on stage. You want her to scream? Oh, she'll scream. You want her to twist herself up? She's definitely going to try, and don't tell her she can't.
It's probably worth noting that her interpretation of Madame Calyptra is a) heavily based on Professor Trelawney, who she took Divination from at Hogwarts, and b) hella gay.

Isabelle Sargent

[personal profile] cant_even 2017-11-08 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Isabelle Sargent
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Yes
Are they applying to be crew?: She's been in crew since last year, mostly doing sets but she's auditioning this year. If she gets no part, she'll happily go back to crew.
Preferred Roles: Verity Pennelegion, Felicity Pennelegion, Jessie Dainty, Linton Worsley
Skill: Her strengths as an actor are that Issy wears emotions on her sleeve. She can call them up quite easily. As someone who had a very terrifying encounter in the woods during a Seance and who was taken from their beds and put into a dreamed sleep, she feels closely connected to this play in a way that allows her emotions to come through quite well. They feel very real. Her downfall has always been shyness and uncertainty in herself.
Their Audition: About ten times better than last year! Monologuing is great and though cold reads aren't her favorite, she reads well off the script with convincing enough emotion it's almost like she had practice. Maybe it was the year of nearly non-stop reading and reading out loud in character voices that helped her. Either way, Isabelle gives a very good monologue, and only once did you see her voice fall - unsure of herself for a second - before she bounced back and finished strong.

Cole Moss

[personal profile] colemoss 2017-11-08 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Cole Moss
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Yep!
Are they applying to be crew?: Yes. Cole isn’t an actor and he has no desire to be one. Instead, he’s hoping to reprise his role as the head of costuming/makeup/hair for the crew. While this is his preference, he’d be happy in any position that allows him to make use of his artistic ability and eye for design.
Preferred Roles: N/A

Yancey

[personal profile] hotdish 2017-11-08 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Yancey Montgomery
Year: Senior
Are they in Drama?: Yes
Are they applying to be crew?: No
Preferred Roles: Bernard Prentice, Dorinda Pennelegion, Sinclair
Skill: LARP-bred acting talents, so a little flowery, a lot hammy, but boy oh boy does he get into it. Since this is a cold read, you're missing out on the full extent of his considerable talent for completely forgetting his lines.
Their Audition: Energetic and into it, but he smiles too much. Yancey's favorite part of the audition appears to be the screaming, the writhing and the cackling.
puphart: (+ impish smile)

Kurt

[personal profile] puphart 2017-11-08 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Kurt Wolfhart
Year: Senior
Are they in Drama?: Yes!
Are they applying to be crew?: If he doesn't get a part he'd be happy to help the crew. :>
Preferred Roles: Kurt is flexible (and so am I!). Linton Worsley, Thomas Killigrew, Sinclair?
Skill: Kurt has a reputation as a talented actor; he's demonstrated an aptitude for comedic timing in the past, and does well with movement and body language. While he can project, he's less suitable for a role that requires genuine, blood-boiling rage. (Petulance, though — that he can do!)

His arbitrary rating is 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 🐎 out of 🔑 🔑 🔑.

Their Audition: This is the most confident audition Kurt's done at Gooseberry! Whereas last fall he shuffled uncomfortably to the stage and stammered an awkward 'hi,' today, he enters in good spirits and doesn't seem particularly stressed. Just happy.

He reads for Linton's part even though he doesn't consider himself to be dashingly handsome. His version of the suitor is assertive and charming, yes, but also amusing — his self-centered side is oblivious to irony, a little childish, and his wild gestures nearly hit those he's on stage with but Linton never cares to check because everything is about him anyways. (Kurt's careful not to hit anyone but still manages to swat [VOLUNTEER] in the [UPPER BODY AREA OF THEIR CHOOSING!]. Kurt apologizes profusely and promises he'll never, ever, ever, ever do it again!!! Are you ok?!!?! He really hopes you're ok!!! He's going to be so careful in the future, he promises!!!!!)
Edited (more ambiguous swatting. not intended to be a BAD injury. real sorry for all the edits.) 2017-11-08 18:42 (UTC)

Olivia

[personal profile] datasstho 2017-11-08 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Olivia Sanchez
Year: Senior
Are they in Drama?: Yes
Are they applying to be crew?: She'd be happier to work crew if she doesn't get a part.
Preferred Roles: Her preferred roles are Amity Carrington, Linton Worsley, Thomas Killigrew, Jessie Dainty, but she's flexible and I have no preference.
Skill: Olivia is great at exuding confidence. She's also great at emoting even fictional emotions. She can curb her own natural New York accent into a more general midwestern accent when necessary too. Which is likely not an actual necessary skill but it's like - there.
Their Audition: Olivia's audition was a confident one. She's not amazing at cold reads, but she still reads moderately well from a script. She's good at playing confident positions to such a degree, that it's likely hard to imagine her playing a more diminutive role. Olivia doesn't drop many lines, and when she does, she recovers remarkably well.

Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Yes
Are they applying to be crew?: Yup! He's been stage manager before. It's his calling.
Preferred Roles: N/A
Skill: 10 out of 10 for loudness
Their Audition: He's not really auditioning because he's pretty dedicated to this stage manager gig, but when the stage is unoccupied for a minute he does get distracted and start rehearsing Dorinda's lines with Zach, who does intend to audition. They get into a "Spooky Grandma-Off" and by the end of it they're both just melodramatically wailing and improvising nonsense. "My bones!" Todd yells as he falls over into Zach's arms. "What's wrong with my booooooones?" And then he dies.

ESSIE!!!

[personal profile] magitechnically 2017-11-08 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Essie Morales-Tran
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Nope!
Are they applying to be crew?: Yep! Essie's happy to lend her skills wherever they're needed. She's done setwork and charms stuff in past productions.
Preferred Roles: Dorinda Pennelegion, Sinclair, Bernard Prentice. But really she's just here to have a BLAST?!?
Skill: Essie can't act??? Okay, that's not entirely true, but all her theatrical experience is playing highly unscripted cowboys and she's never memorized lines before or actually taken direction. She has a natural exuberance and ZERO TROUBLE WITH VOLUME or throwing herself fully into being a ridiculous character.
Their Audition: Normally Essie just signs up to help with crew, but she got a hold of the audition prep list and thinks this is basically the MOST FUN THING ever written so she at least wants to try out?!? When she reads for Sinclair, it's pretty obvious that she's channeling her infamous Candy Rustler persona Estella de Ville, complete with bad cowboy accent. It's a good thing she doesn't have a real machete in her hands, because she's bound to take someone's eye out with the way she's waving her imaginary one around. Her reading for Dorinda inexplicably has a (terrible) Russian accent and she pops out of the rocking chair for a jump scare when she reads the line "Zhey're HEEEERE!". She's not terribly interested in the actual character of Bernard, but there was no way she was passing up the chance to roll around the floor yelling "I’m being eaten ALIIIIIIIIIIIVE!" Before she performs that final reading, she steals Lucas' glasses, because the character write-up vaguely reminded her of Diego. She is having SO! MUCH!! FUN!!!

Zach!!!

[personal profile] readingrainbows 2017-11-08 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Zachary Zheng
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: YEAH
Are they applying to be crew?: NAH, unless they ask him for help, in which case, yeah, he can do that.
Preferred Roles: After scoring the highly coveted role of Milky White in last year's production of Into the Woods, Zach is shooting SKY HIGH and auditioning for the Dorinda Pennelegion range of roles, but would also be 100% happy to be a VERY ENTHUSIASTIC DEMON or GHOST or spooky TREE.
Skill: Zach is honestly a pretty decent actor, but more importantly, he's full of ZEST and ZEAL and ... okay, basically, he's a giant ham who's comfortable cross-dressing. He's best used when you want someone to act their little heart out with the emotional nuance of a sledgehammer. Melodrama is his forte. This is really only amplified by the fact that this is a St. Clair original — if you thought Zach was giving it his all BEFORE, well, get a load of THIS.
Their Audition: Goes superbly, if you like wailing and gnashing teeth. DEAR GOD, WHAT'S WRONG WITH HIS BONES?

Grace Sowerberry

[personal profile] gracesowerberry 2017-11-08 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Grace Sowerberry
Year: Sophomore
Are they in Drama?: Yep!
Are they applying to be crew?: Nope!
Preferred Roles: Bernard Prentice (she may not be the most convincing fifty-year-old man but she can scream BIG and for a LONG TIME; put that opera background to use, Grace). Madame Calyptra. Dorinda Pennelegion. A ghost. Jessie Dainty. (She tried but she really doesn't deserve the role.)
Skill: Grace has talent but she's always struggled as a performer. When she's singing she's amazing and has a big voice that can fill the auditorium. Who needs a microphone? She also emotes clearly and moves well on stage, allowing her to express a lot with just her body and her face. But when it comes time to open her mouth and deliver lines, she tenses up and has a tendency to be too quiet or to use the wrong cadence or to mumble. When she gets off track, either because she forgot a line or missed a line or because someone else dropped the ball, she has difficulty recovering. She works very hard but she can be something of a hindrance.

While she's been trying to overcome her stage fright by joining Cheerleading and LARP and that has helped a bit, her same issues are still on display. Just in smaller doses.
Their Audition: Grace has been practicing cold readings with Rupert for the last few days and has been reviewing the scripts ever since she got them this afternoon, so she's going into her audition as prepared as she can. She's visibly nervous when she gets on the stage (those watching closely can see her shaking as she introduces herself) and takes a deep breath before she begins. She's reading for Jessie Dainty. Her expressions are on point, making her desperation and fear for her secret lover clear to the audience, but her voice slips into inaudible softness more than once and someone has to tell her to speak up. It's an okay performance but not a great one and she's definitely not the best Jessie Dainty that's been seen today.

When it's over, she looks like she wants to hide in a corner but she thanks Mrs. Acuña and Micah for their time before hurrying off stage.
Edited (That got long. Sorry! Also, feel free not to cast Grace if you're short on spaces~ Failure can be part of her character arc.) 2017-11-08 20:18 (UTC)

Ari

[personal profile] novelling 2017-11-08 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Ariadne Flint
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Yes
Are they applying to be crew?: No
Preferred Roles: Verity, Killigrew, Amity, Felicity. (OOCly, I'm fine with whatever. Put her where you need her! But Ari's really feeling drama this year and is emboldened by the fact that Micah is president, writer, and director on this project, so [gestures] a lead role, please.)

Skill: Ari has two real strengths as an actress: one is that she has a great sense of comedic timing and is very dry, so she's good for playing sarcastic humor or the straight man. The other, which hasn't come up before but is very applicable for this particular piece, is that she is effective at conveying a great depth of anger or sadness without yelling or crying. Her delivery is contained, pent-up, and definitely a little spooky. This is because she's good at acting. Not because of anything going on in her personal life... obviously.

Their Audition: She waits and goes dead last, in the hopes that some of the people she doesn't know as well will clear the room as the evening wears on. While she's waiting to read, she leans over her script, mouthing the words to herself and flipping back and forth between two of the pages, like she can't quite decide what she wants to read for the audition.

After the second-to-last person completes their audition, she takes the stage tentatively, still holding her script pages in a vice-grip. After surveying the remaining audience, takes a deep breath, and stoops to set the pages on the stage before standing again. She ends up reading Amity's monologue, and after that initial moment of hesitation when she first stepped out onto the stage, it's a very good audition. Why the emotional plight of a frustrated, underappreciated daughter resonates with her might not be lost on her friends, some of whom know she was disowned by her shitty parents recently. The underlying anger in this performance is genuine, but after she's done she turns it off as quickly as she turned it on, and once she's off the stage she mostly seems pleased with herself.

Name: Spencer Sweet
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Yes!
Are they applying to be crew?: No!
Preferred Roles: Thomas Killigrew (frankly he's probably not the best candidate), Midas Carrington (better), or Linton Worsley (also better).
Skill: Spencer isn't an actor, but he is a performer. He's been center stage for half his life, and as a result he's very at ease in front of a crowd. Spencer's cocky charisma can carry him pretty far and he's very decisive, not hesitating even when he has to do something weird or silly. Spencer knows how to move, and never forgets there are eyes on him. On the other hand, he doesn't have a lot of range. Spencer is fun to watch and has a lot of presence, but he's also very one note. Don't try to get him to cry or fake anger. You're going to be disappointed.
Their Audition: Spencer had his monologues (... and your monologues, and the synopsis, etc.) memorized within 30 minutes of getting his copy of the character bios. He's confident and swaggering, but... does wilt a little whenever he has to make eye contact with Micah. Maybe this was a bad idea.

Are they applying to be crew?:Noooo
Preferred Roles: Honestly Jade would play anyone in this whole show; she's in love with it. In Order of What Jade Would Like: Verity (HOOK HAND ♥), Felicity,Amity, Lyonette, Midas, Demon, Ghost
Skill: Jade tries to bring expertise and emotion into every word she says. Acting is the main reason she got into Gooseberry originally, and that's for a reason. She has strong improvisational skills that she relies on right now, making roles that she's only been exposed to in sentences her own, well-rounded human beings. She'll bring the same enthusiasm to background woo-ing ghosts and the lead roles alike. There aren't small parts, friends.

Their Audition: If allowed, Jade would've read for primarily Verity and Felicity. To Verity, she brings danger in her eyes and the keen sense that maybe there is a hook somewhere under her sleeve. Her lines are measured and intense, delivered like she's staring into the invisible eyes of a co-star, daring him to conjure up the demons she's seen. She brings strength, wry humor if appropriate, and maybe the smallest hint of fear right beneath the surface. The idea of protecting the only people she cares about from a dark woods is not a foreign one. Her influences include the way Sylla duels and Ms. Lilywhite, coupled with some of Jade's own stark commitment to burn her own forest down if she needs to. It's a skilled performance, sure, but this is a little cathartic too.

Her Felicity, if allowed, is Not as nuanced and complicated, but she is still talented. And Jade (surprise) gets very into horror roles. She writhes in fake agony almost...too convincingly. Like. We get it, Jade. Someone showed you The Exorcist. (Why did they do that??) She'll stay to watch everyone else's audition and to compliment (actually compliment!) Micah later. It's so good. She's so happy.

LUCAS??

[personal profile] bubblewrapped 2017-11-09 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Lucas Kowalski
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Oh hell no.
Are they applying to be crew?: I'm sure if Micah needed any charmswork for the play Lucas would be happy to help.
Preferred Roles: UM? What? Oh, uh, I guess the trees and the ghosts and the demons are cool.
Skill:
Picture your favorite actor.
Now imagine he's dead.
That. There. A dead guy. That's about Lucas' speed.
Their Audition:
Lucas is just here for his glasses, everyone. Rudely stolen from his very face while he was reading... I don't know, Wizard Great Expectations or whatever. He catches Essie as she's leaving the stage, not realizing they're both still onstage, because this dude can't see shit.

Despite the fact that Essie more than a half-foot shorter than this lumbering doofus, Lucas can't seem to get his glasses back for all her darting around. So he swings his arms around, trying and failing to get his specs back as he chases her around, and whines in a way that maybe? passes for a ghostly haunting.

When he gets his glasses back it's almost definitely because Essie gave them to him. He pushes them back up the bridge of his nose, sees where he is, shrieks and exits stage left.

Rupert Wick - "Serious Actor"

[personal profile] somethingwick_ed 2017-11-09 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Rupert Wick
Year: Sophomore
Are they in Drama?: Yes!
Are they applying to be crew?: Nooope.
Preferred Roles: Verity. Or Thomas. Or Amity. Or... (Rupert just wants to monopolize lines, but he will literally take anything that's given to him... as long as there's a speaking part). OOCly it's whatever! Even if he doesn't get a part -3- Especially since he's kind of a snot.
Skill: Rupert is an actor by trade (or that's how he puts it, anyways), and is a natural on stage. He enunciates, emotes, memorizes lines quickly, and can juggle lines and stage directions with relative ease. He does tend to overact, doesn't always take direction well, and given that this is a student-written play, may feel the need to occasionally suggest edits. He'll mostly be nice about that, anyways. He definitely takes himself too seriously, and sometimes it shows. He can get very snippy when others mess up, but obviously that's something that wouldn't show until actual rehearsals.
Their Audition: Rupert comes to the audition ready to impress - he's wearing his glasses and a bow tie, to "look smarter" or something. He reads for Thomas, but makes it very clear that Verity would be a fine role for him too. Unlike poor Grace, his words are clear, strong, and filled with emotion - he's pretty good at cold reads, if a bit melodramatic ("A seance? I swear, Linton, the things I do for you." He whips off his glasses at some point for effect.) At one point he does pause to question some word choices, though... he tries to do so politely, at least?

Susana Velasquez

[personal profile] pintsizedsass 2017-11-09 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
Name: Susana Velasquez
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Yes
Are they applying to be crew?: No
Preferred Roles: Verity Pennelegion, Thomas Killigrew, Felicity Pennelegion, Jessie Dainty (but really she'll be happy with anything, she's pretty flexible!)
Skill: Ana is a fairly good actress. She loves drama, and it's always shown in how hard she works. She has a natural talent for the stage, is loud, and can emote surprisingly well (considering her aversion to feelings normally) She is not as great at the upbeat and joyous, preferring serious or dramatic or even stand-offish, but she's worked on it a bit. Cold reads are definitely her niche, seeing as she works off instinct anyway.
Their Audition: Describe how their audition went.

Reece is here too

[personal profile] peanutbuttercup 2017-11-09 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Reece Downing
Year: Senior
Are they in Drama?: No
Are they applying to be crew?: Yes! He can help out with sets or lighting. Or any other artsy stuff. Special effects? This seems like a show where people might be spitting blood up a lot.
Preferred Roles: Noooooo he's not an actor he's just here keeping an eye out for goddamn ceiling ghosts
Skill:
Their Audition:
fillefidele: (Default)

Joanna May

[personal profile] fillefidele 2017-11-09 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Name: Joanna May
Year: Junior
Are they in Drama?: Yup!
Are they applying to be crew?: No, but she'd do it if she didn't get a part.
Preferred Roles: Felicity, Lyonette, Jessie, Verity, Madame Calyptra (in that order) but she would take any of the parts for the fun of it. Drama is her release, yo!)
Skill: Joanna is not the naturally gifted actress that some of the other club members are. However, as shown in her performances (Robin in Midsummer, the stepsister in Into the Woods) last year, she has great timing and intonation in her lines. Pretty deadpan in her usual life, Jo can give a wry, ironic or darkly humorous touch to her lines where needed. 8/10 for entertainment, 7/10 for general talent.
Their Audition: It went well! She is less of a stick in the mud than previously - whereas in previous years she would have thought the staff were insane for allowing this, she is now more keen to relax, go with the flow, and see what happens. It means she is more natural and fluid in her performance, with less predictability in her intonation and physical performance. It's clear she's growing as a performer and is a better actress than last year. She really cuts loose in her monologue, and shows a physical flexibility that is developing from the greater exercise she has been doing this year, hopefully in preparation for Animagus transformation. In short, it's clear she really gives much fewer f***s.

Calvin

[personal profile] evercreep 2017-11-08 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Calvin is in the audience as a show of solidarity for Micah, Jade, Ari, Todd, and any other friends of his who end up getting on stage. Between auditions, or whenever someone he doesn't care about is auditioning (which is... a lot of people*), he opens a Hermeticism textbook and begins studying instead of listening. It's back to the library after this, then D&F. Calvin has begun his slow and steady transformation into Quinn Cunningham, but unfortunately didn't pick up the "enthusiastic supporter of the arts" bit.

* Just based off the Drama club list, Calvin will pay attention to Jade, Ari, Kurt, Susana, Todd, Grace and Zach's auditions. Assuming no other non-actor friends of his try out, everyone else can feel free to be offended. He's being rude.
