A BATCH OF BABBLING COOKIES

What’s the best way to make yourself feel better when your boyfriend’s grandparents keep trying to set him up with a new girlfriend? Cookies! Lots and lots of cookies! There are chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, oatmeal raisin, and sugar cookies with star sprinkles. Unfortunately, Chloe accidentally used the results of one of Archie’s experiments.

Everyone who eats one of the cookies will experience the effects of the Babbling Beverage causing them to babble uncontrollably! While not a truth potion, it still becomes incredibly hard to keep your thoughts to yourself.

Saira is...probably not who you think of when 'eating random cookies out of a basket in the lodge' comes up, but studying is more stressful this year than any year prior, she's very busy and important, and they smell good, so today you can count her in.

It's the snickerdoodles that get her. Damn the snickerdoodles.

She finishes one cookie and backtracks to get another with a guilty glance around to make sure no one is watching. And if someone is, they get a vaguely wry look and a shrug. "These are very good, and sometimes comfort food is necessary. Do cookies meet the conventional definition of 'comfort food?' It's usually applied to savory things, I think, but I suppose it technically explicitly fits anything that brings one comfort, and snickerdoodles do tend to do that. For me, at any rate. Perhaps chocolate chips are more traditionally 'comfort cookies,' when you come down to it."

Which is more than she usually says to most people in a week unless it's class-related or her boyfriend she's speaking to (and even then, it could go either way,) so that's...odd.

Casper & Open

Casper doesn't eat sweets and he's got his headphones on as he sits in the Atrium going over his Occlumency notes, so he doesn't immediately recognize that something...isn't right. But he'll notice eventually. Sooner if any of his unfortunate classmates happen to end up sitting in the spot open beside him on the sofa.

Nobody tell him this outbreak was caused by cookies. He'll be smug for the rest of his life.

Ennis & Open to multiple (Come get babbled at)

Ennis is delighted to try one of Chloe's cookies! In fact, he eats one of each flavor. What could possibly go wrong???

Todd & open to multiple!

Honestly, Todd probably wouldn't gotten hit with this even if he'd just encountered the raw babbling powder. He'd eat mystery sugar for sure. As-is, he's eaten about 8 cookies and is only just starting to suspect something's wrong.

Yancey & Lachlan Probably Get Kicked Out of the Library

"There you are!" Yancey whispers as he invites himself to the seat across from Lachlan. He looks out of place in the library, uniform neat but covered in smudges of color. There's a red thumbprint on his chin that he doesn't seem to notice or care about. Evidently Yancey spent the bulk of his lightest day in the art room.

"Hello, there." He punctuates his follow-up greeting by sliding something wrapped in a napkin across the table. His explanation: "Chloe made cookies."

Chloe & OPEN

Chloe made cookies to share, but she also made them to eat. When she sits down on a comfy love seat by a fire place in the atrium, she has a plate of at least a dozen cookies and a glass of milk. It's a good thing that magic makes crumb cleanup easy. Her mom never lets her eat anything on their couches at home, because if she ever found crumbs she'd never hear the end of it. But for now, there's no one to tell her not to eat on the couch!

Carney Cousins Eat Cookies

"Oh, yeah, this seems safe," Austin says, rolling his eyes even as he bites into his second oatmeal raisin cookie. There were a lot of oatmeal raisin cookies left in this random basket in the middle of the lodge. "Like, we get poisoned on a weekly basis at this school, and now we're just eatin' this oatmeal raisin shit like we ain't got a care in the world. You think that's what we're supposed to be learning in this school? Not to trust shit? Like we're learning to live on a damn compound now?"

The sugar cookies are vegan, so Ira takes about three. There's not many vegans left in school, so he always thinks he has a little bit of a right to take as many as he wants when it comes to the options here. Which isn't a problem, normally, he isn't preachy. He eats what he eats and lets people do what they want.

It only becomes an issue maybe today, when he's proselytizing to the nearest poor soul about his dietary choices...much more enthusiastically than he would normally. "And do you want to know about eggs? Because I can tell you about eggs." He points a cookie-half at the poor victim.
Maybe he just hasn't had a good rant in a while.

Bash & Lucas Use Up All the Words

There's probably a lesson that could be learned here about eating food that's just openly left out for people to just take all willy-nilly and shit. But 'could' is a kind of ambiguous and wishy-washy term. And food is really good. Especially free food. So maybe Bash has half of a snickerdoodle in his mouth and a chocolate chip cookie in his free hand before this sort of question even has the opportunity to cross his mind.

Which it doesn't. Because there's at least six other questions that are on queue first.

"Did you know that if your blood type is O, and you are CMV negative - which is apparently some kind of weird herpes? Or not some weird herpes because, um, negative? Anti-herpes? But, I mean, if you are." A brief pause, head shaking mildly. "If you aren't? Then you can donate blood to babies? Because like my mom is and they call our house asking for her blood like a million times. Which is good. Cause -" Bash waves one cookie-laden hand emphatically. "- babies? But dude. Chill the fuck out?"

He pauses. Chews thoughtfully. (Man, these are like really good.)

"Though it kind of makes me wonder if magical people donating blood to non-magical people has some sort of aftereffects? Like - I mean, Beth donated to my dad? And nothing hinky happened? So -" Actually, so did his mom. Does that variable change because his mom's a Squib? "But that's only one case. And maybe that's an outlier?"

Hazel & Micah

Hazel is on a mission, and that mission is to check the hockey sign-up sheet and maybe try to bully anyone who happens to be near-ish to it to sign up, if they haven't already. She arrives at the Lodge with this in mind...but is quickly distracted by that basket of cookies. Yeah, Hazel's not going to pass up free cookies, especially when some have sprinkles.

She takes a bite, satisfied by its deliciousness, and grabs another for the road before she starts towards the bulletin board.

Quentin, Violet and Concordia

"Didn't your mams ever tell you don't take cookies from strange baskets?" Quentin says, mouth full, as he comes up behind Violet and Concordia. "Because that's how the fuck you get drugged," he continues, before taking a bite from the cookie he took from the strange basket in the atrium.

Heathcliff & Fern

Heathcliff doesn't know that there are free cookies down in the Atrium and he's unlikely to notice anytime soon. Sitting on the steps leading up to the Divination Tower and bent over a book he got from Mr. Chetrri earlier in the week, his brows are furrowed with an uncommon amount of concentration as he reads about the interactions between different herbs and how mixing them can alter their divining properties. Sometimes enhancing them, sometimes negating them, and sometimes...

He frowns and mutters to nobody but himself, "Seriously? Come on, osha root."

His tea leaves said he'd be lucky this morning. He's yet to see evidence of that, though.

Obv I am around if anyone wants to babble with mine. Chloe, Fern, and Cameron are going to all eat cookies, though Cameron will probably seem the same as normal. London is back on her diet, but people might think she ate them anyway, all considered.
