SENIOR/SOPHOMORE MONTHLY BONDING

SENIOR/SOPHOMORE MONTHLY BONDING
Well, Mrs. O'Hare had wanted to take everyone out for horseback riding, but the weather's taken a turn for the snowy. As such, she leads everyone to the atrium to learn her favorite hobby: knitting!
She noticed a divide between the seniors and sophomores, and as such encourages the seniors to get to know the younger students. Be a mentor! Give them advice! Share your wisdom and connect with these younger kids! You're about to be adults, so this will be good practice.
» PARTICIPANTS: Grab some needles and get to knitting!
» REFRESHMENTS: There's tea, hot chocolate and cookies available to seniors and sophomores.
» SNOW: It's snowing outside! If you'd like to do a scene in the snow, you can do so here. Juniors may post in this section.
» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!
She noticed a divide between the seniors and sophomores, and as such encourages the seniors to get to know the younger students. Be a mentor! Give them advice! Share your wisdom and connect with these younger kids! You're about to be adults, so this will be good practice.
HOW THIS WORKS
- Seniors have been paired up with a sophomore who they're expected to set a good example for. Good luck!
- In most cases, it's two seniors with one sophomore, but some captains and the Head Boy/Girl have been assigned one-on-one pairs.
- The activity will be learning to knit! You can choose between trying to make a scarf or a hat. Yarn in all sorts of colors is provided.
- Fill out the form below, play out scenes, etc. and we'll RNG how well your projects turned out!
- There's hot chocolate, tea, and cookies available for snacking, and the fireplace in the atrium is lit.
- We'll use RNG to select a "winner" amongst the mentor/mentee matches that are active and engaged, and you'll get....... something idk.
- The form:
Name:
Mentor/Mentee: Who your character was paired with.
Can they already knit?:
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: If a senior. Level of troubled may vary.
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: If a sophomore. Quality of mentorship may vary.
Anything else?:
Antonia mentors Quentin.
Avery mentors Dinah.
Cameron & Veronica mentor Antigone.
Casey & Lilika mentor Archimedes.
Clementine mentors Nisha.

PARTICIPANTS
CASEY (w/ Lilika & Archimedes)
Mentor/Mentee: Lilika & Archimedes
Can they already knit?: On a scale of 1–10, like... 0.5. He knows they're called "needles," not "hooks," and that you need two of them.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: He's a meathead AND a bonehead BUT he's delightfully immature and used to being talked down to both by older and younger siblings, so I'd say he's actually maybe kind of okay-to-good?
Anything else?: Casey is better at teaching through demonstration than instruction. If he's expected to say the next steps, Lilika should 110% be in charge.
Archie & Two Cool Cheer Captains
Lilika & A Very Odd Pair
Kurt (w/ Oscar & Violet)
Mentor/Mentee: Oscar & Violet
Can they already knit?: No. He knows a lot of practical knots, though! (Not that that's helpful beyond the slip knot you need for casting on, but SHHHH.)
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: It completely depends on the youth. Kurt has endless patience and doesn't raise his voice, but he's one of those "let's learn together!" people who want to go over every step with their partners before they begin. He'll try to understand what Violet needs to learn best, but it's not like he has formal training here, so depending on how receptive she is (as well as how Oz is doing), it's a hit-or-miss.
Anything else?: After this Kurt is going to deffo going to want to learn how to knit.
Kurt (w/ Oscar & Violet)
Re: Kurt (w/ Oscar & Violet)
Corrigan (w/ Ferdinand)
Mentor/Mentee: HEAD BOY FERDINAND
Can they already knit?: NOY YET.
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: I hope Ferdie can figure out how to teach Corrigan to knit without the phrases "now do X," "this is how you do Y," or "do Z like this" because DO NOT TRY TO TELL HER WHAT TO DO. She's not going to refuse Ferdie's mentorship outright, but he... might... need to devise a very special teaching style for this garbage girl. The good news is that she's not going to give up until she's satisfied about kicking knitting's butt.
Anything else?: This pairing delights me in so many ways.
Corrigan (w/ Ferdinand)
DINAH (w/ Avery)
Mentor/Mentee: Avery
Can they already knit?: lol no
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: NOT GREAT, BOB. If Dinah even slightly suspects that someone is treating her like a CHILD (like they're trying to TEACH her), she squares her shoulders and digs in her heels. She's spoiled and not receptive to being placated, and once she gets frustrated, it's hard to talk her down.
Anything else?: She refuses to follow patterns, and the gratification isn't instant enough to hold her attention for very long. She'll probably name the needles and act out an epic and dramatic romance with them, though.
DINAH (w/ Avery)
Nisha (w/ Clem)
Mentor/Mentee: Clem Decourt
Can they already knit?: Yes. She's wearing this sweater over her uniform. She calls it her bad kid sweater. She made it herself in detention at Ilvermorny last year.
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: Nisha is eager to please Clem because Clem is one of the coolest people in the school. But Nisha is also easily distracted especially if Dinah starts making any loud noises. Like dogs howling in a quiet neighborhood at night.
Anything else?: Shits going to get knit as fuck. Nisha suggests they make a hat that is also a scarf because she's not about to be held back by rules and also porque no los dos
Clem (w/ Nisha!)
Re: Clem (w/ Nisha!)
Re: Clem (w/ Nisha!)
Re: Clem (w/ Nisha!)
Tobias (w/ Reece & Ursula)
Mentor/Mentee: Reece & Ursula
Can they already knit?: SORTA. He's probably not great at it, but Magical Rudiments is probably his best class, so. He's not inherently terrible, even if he definitely could use some practice.
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: Oh extremely, assuming he isn't distracted by shenanigans happening elsewhere in the room. His eyes will go to the loudest person on deck. That said, ya boy takes directions super well and is eager to please, so he'll do his best to focus up.
Anything else?: good dogs
Tobias (w/ Reece & Ursula)
Re: Tobias (w/ Reece & Ursula)
Griffin (w/ Ennis & Reid)
Mentor/Mentee: Ennis and Reid
Can they already knit?: Not even a little.
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: Deceptively willing to accept senior mentorship, Griffin is actually going to do everything in his power to get Ennis and Reid to knit for him because holy shit this is boring and wow is he lazy. He might even play dead.
Anything else?: garbage boy

Ennis (w/ Reid & Griffin)
Paris (w/ Dominic & Chloe)
Mentor/Mentee: Dominic & Chloe
Can they already knit?: She has a badge for it, but truthfully... no, Pear's generally not so hot with handicrafts.
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: Pear does not need any help from condescending seniors, but she'll pretend to be agreeable enough!!
Anything else?: tosses another monster into the pile
Chloe (w/ Dominic & Paris)
Chloe (w/ Dominic & Paris)
Re: Chloe (w/ Dominic & Paris)
TUESDAY (And Captain Jaime)
Mentor/Mentee: Jaime Castillo
Can they already knit?: ACTUALLY? KIND OF. She can definitely sew and she knows the basics of knitting, though never really got into it as a long-term hobby
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?:N/A (She's Troubled all right)
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: Not...great. Unless adequately redirected, she's going to spend the entire time insisting she knows exactly what she's doing and trying to weasel out Quidditch secrets to impress her captains with later. ("So it's Three stitches and...so hey, what kind of new strategies are you going to win with this weekend :) :)")
Anything else?: Lo siento
TUESDAY (And Captain Jaime)
Rosemary (w/ Ulysses & Hieronymus)
Mentor/Mentee: Ulysses & Hero
Can they already knit?: Do these hands look like they can do anything domestic? God no.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: She's not the worst at it! She informs the boys at the start that she's never knit a damn thing in her life, but she's also never let that stop her before. Depending on how Ulysses is at this her methods might vary, but her inclination is to take a "we're going to get through this and figure it out together" approach. They're a family for the next, like, hour or whatever, and families are bad at things together.
Anything else?: Mom's tired. Please no one notice how tired she is.
Ulysses (w/ Rosemary & Hieronymus)
Hero Lee and the Spoiled Rich Brats
Re: Hero Lee and the Spoiled Rich Brats
Re: Hero Lee and the Spoiled Rich Brats
ADDY w/ Wilde and Marie
Mentor/Mentee: Jonathan Wilde (CO-MENTOR), Marie Patterson
Can they already knit?: Hell no.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: Addy just thinks this is fun, honestly. She loves Wilde. She loves Marie by proxy because she's Tally's best friend and Casey's sister. She's not competitive and will mostly use it as a chatter sesh over something cool to make, and if they actually get something that looks like a scarf or hat or whatever...well. That's nice too!
She might need to be redirected herself and is good at Relating to kids but not necessarily Mentoring them, is what I'm saying.
Anything else?: all my kids are bad
Marie (w/ Wilde and Addy)
Wilde w/ Addy and Marie
Riley (w/ Phin & Grace)
Mentor/Mentee: Phin & Grace
Can they already knit?: One time in Magical Rudiments they gave her the knitting needles and she immediately started bleeding so they took them away and gave her a mirror to play with.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: Grace should be the one mentoring her, honestly. Riley kind of wrinkles her nose at the task and suggests just, like, braiding things?? That KIND OF looks like knitting. Good enough for now!!! It's up to you to reach this very troubled youth, Phin.
Anything else?: Just give her another mirror to play with, she's useless.
Grace (w/ Phin & Riley)
Phin (w/ Riley & Grace)
Nia (w/ Quentin)
Mentor/Mentee: Quentin Youngblood
Can they already knit?: A little. She's been in Rudiments for a few years and can handle a scarf or hat without dropping too many stitches.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: Nia's more of an administrator than a teacher. And her patience is quick to wear thin. But when she sees she's paired with a Youngblood she knows the surest route to victory is distraction. So she tries to put a subversive spin on whatever they're making - make it seem like they're sticking it to The Man by making something unconventional, and tries to keep the conversation to aliens, lizard men and their general existence.
Anything else?: this is how she loses the hg badge.
Nia (w/ Quentin)
Sylvester (w/ Natalie)
Mentor/Mentee: Tally Prince
Can they already knit?: God no. Sy is not skilled in anything he and this twin couldn't have gotten super competitive about. Why couldn't this be mud wrestling bonding?
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: It's fuckin' absurd that someone thought Sy could lead anyone by virtue of being, like, a captain. Teaching someone to throw a Quaffle really hard, he can do. Critiquing your pushup technique, he can do. Honestly the only way they're getting through this is because he wants to show up Rosy and Quayle.
Anything else?: Sy starts them off on an excellent foot. "You're a girl, you already know how to do this, right?"
Tally (w/ Sy)
Yancey (w/ Phoebe & Concordia)
Mentor/Mentee: Phi and Cordi
Can they already knit?: Yes! But he's better at chainmail. Can they make a chainmail coif instead??
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: Yancey's polite, aww shucks demeanor should hopefully earn him some points, and he's incredibly encouraging, but he's also a controlling asshole and will get frustrated if their young charge is resistant. Also he probably will forget that Concordia's name is Concordia halfway through and accidentally call her something vaguely similar.
Anything else?: Yancey's a fidgety, hands on person and is probably better as a cheerleader than an instructor.
Yancey (w/ Phoebe & Concordia)
Yancey (w/ Phoebe & Concordia)
Iliya & Mackenzie & Rupert
Mentor/Mentee: Co-mentor Kenzie Prince and mentee Rupert Wick
Can they already knit?: Sometimes he.... wears things other people have knitted for him.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: Iliya is 110% following Kenzie's lead here. Kenzie is a prefect. Kenzie is good with children, especially precocious boy children who probably already look at her like they're half in love with her. Iliya is going to attempt to get away with not saying anything unless Kenzie tries to force him to get involved, in which case he's just going speak to her in Bulgarian. It's their continuing language lessons! Rupert can pick up a few words too. Only a couple of them will be swear words.
Anything else?: please deduct a thousand points for bonding effort
Iliya & Mackenzie & Rupert
Iliya & Mackenzie & Rupert
Sybilla (/w Sofia & Carolina)
Mentor/Mentee: Sofia & Carolina
Can they already knit?: NOPE. Not without a spell and enchanted knitting needles her mother uses.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: Mostly apathetic and disinterested. Coincidentally the same can be said for her feelings on knitting.
Anything else?: She is more likely to get more bonding done when she sneaks off to smoke a cigarette after the knitting is done because feeling useless makes her anxious af.
Lachlan (w/ Roxie & Pandora!)
Mentor/Mentee: Roxanne Barringer & Pandora Lacey
Can they already knit?: Yes. Lachlan isn't adept at knitting but he does know how (he has the merit badge to prove it!). He's slow but precise and is well-equipped to teach beginners as a result, though they're unlikely to finish anything if they work at his speed.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: Lachlan is a nice enough guy (even if he is tightly wound) and he has some experience mentoring other students as a teaching assistant. He's good at explaining things clearly and concisely but he can be a bit of a know-it-all and offer more information than's actually needed. Fortunately, he doesn't know that much about knitting, so that won't be a problem. He doesn't have any interest in forcing people to work, though, and won't push hard if his efforts are rejected in the first attempt or so. Then he'll just focus on the knitting. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anything else?: He thinks they should go with Azucrest colors. Sorry, Roxie!
Pandora (w/ Roxie & Lachlan!)
Pandora (w/ Roxie & Lachlan!)
Roxie (w/ Lachlan & Pandora!)
Olivia (w/Saira and Peyton)
Mentor/Mentee: Saira and Peyton
Can they already knit?: Holy shit no
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: Olivia's cardinal rule is to get respect you gotta give respect first. She doesn't know how great she is at reaching troubled youth? But she doesn't talk to them like their five. She's never knitted before and she doesn't know Peyton extremely well. She knows Peyton is on avery's quidditch team so she breaks the ice by trying to get to know her first. It's not a distraction method, but they're gonna be here for a minute so they might as well get to know eachother.
Anything else?: Olivia wishes their form of mentoring was boxing. She'd mentor great if it was bonding.
Re: Olivia (w/Saira and Peyton)
Cameron (& Veronica + Antigone)
Mentor/Mentee: Cameron & Vee + Antigone
Can they already knit?: Nooooo. This is very small, detailed work that involves sitting still.
How good are they at reaching troubled youth?: So so. Cameron helps Vee with the cheer squad, but more in support than in teaching. Also, Cameron loves the sophomores. He wants to adopt them. Sure, they're a little wild, but they're like puppies who chew your shoes. He's also as distractible as the sophomores, which isn't great for this.
Anything else?: No knitwear is getting made by Cameron. Here's your new knot ball.
London (& Webster & Casper)
Mentor/Mentee: Webster & Casper / London
Can they already knit?: She has done basic projects, but doesn't do it as a hobby and would need to be reminded of the steps to get going. Who wants to cast on for her?
How receptive are they to senior mentorship?: Eeeeeeehh depends a lot on the style of mentorship. She does better being shown something like this than told. If she feels like she's being condescended to, babied, or bossed around, can rapidly go downhill.
Anything else?: She's already handing both boys yard skeins she thinks would complement their complexions and eye colors.

Avery + Dinah
"I'm not sure what we were supposed to get out of that except frustration." She replied with a bit of a laugh, shrugging. "At least there's cookies?" She ventures, grabbing a cookie before fixing herself a hot chocolate. "You want a hot chocolate? Or tea?"

SNOW
Who doesn't want to scene in the snow I mean really (open??)
Which is why he isn't throwing. As he and some friends pass under a tree between classes, branches lightly caked in snow like some fancy powdered sugar confection, he extends one long leg out and thunks his heel hard against the trunk. The branches shake, dumping the gathered snow on his pals.
Work smarter, not harder, he thinks to himself, congratulatory, right before a snowball soars through the air and hits him in the side of the face. "Shi--"
Who doesn't want to scene in the snow I mean really (still open??? everyone should join in???)
