SCHOOL TRIP: Juniors

SCHOOL TRIP: Juniors

As the junior class steps out off the Floo network, they're immediately hit by the humidity, in stark contrast with dry Utah. The excitement amongst the students (even if it's not totally unanimous) is palpable. They file onto buses, and soon they're on their way to the most magical place on earth. Everyone breaks out in high pitched teenage elation as the bus passes under the gate the proclaims this is the place where dreams come true. The Disney bus driver quips and jokes with the boisterous highschoolers.

Students are given packets that contain their hotel room key, park passes, allowance, a description of their dining plan and tickets, the itinerary, and a basic list of rules. For the most part, it looks like they'll have a lot of freedom, so long as they don't break any rules. "This is going to be great," Mr. Elmasty proclaims, who seems happy to be a kid more than a teacher this weekend.

HOW THIS WORKS
  • The junior class is visiting Orlando, Florida! They'll be staying in the Pop Century Resort.

  • They're in a block of rooms on the third floor of a set of buildings themed for 80's and 80's pop culture. The nearest swimming pool is themed like a 90's laptop.

  • Staff presence: Ms. Rhee, Mr. Elmasry, Ms. Whittle

  • Students will have to go through the North American Floo network, so they can't have any contraband in their bags, such as weapons or drugs. After arriving at the MACUSA Floo hub in Orlando, they'll be taken to their hotel on Disney property.

  • For the two non-travel days, in the morning there will be a set school activity that's mandatory, and in the evenings students can do whatever they want to.
  • Juniors are given an allowance of $15 per day for food and leisure, as well as a Disney Dining Plan and a 3 day Parkhopper ticket to Disney World. Using the dining plan, students may spend "credits" on meals, allowing even those with minimal funds to go to expensive restaurants in Disney World if they strategize. Nice! Any room charges will come out of your character's allowance. They may spend their own personal money however they please.

  • Curfew is 12:00 AM. Teachers will come through to make sure everyone is in their rooms. The only exception is for the students who are staying out later for "Extra Magic Hours" on Friday and Saturday night at the Magic Kingdom. Mr. Elmasry will stay out until 1:00 AM with students opting to do this, and he'll return to the hotel with them.

  • Students are not allowed to take their wands into the Disney parks due to the International Statute of Secrecy. The staff give everyone a lecture reminding them about keeping their magic use under wraps.

  • The park will be busy because it's Thanksgiving Weekend, and it will be decorated for Christmas already. The weather will be fairly mild for Florida, but still expect heat and humidity.

  • ALTHOUGH THIS IS BEING POSTED ON 11/22, STUDENTS WILL NOT ACTUALLY BE LEAVING UNTIL THE MORNING OF 11/23!

"That's the whole mystery of the thing," she tells Lucas first off, which is only to say she doesn't know. But those aren't the kinds of details she's fussed by, anyway. If you have the opportunity to use Boba Fett, you take it. "And you'd think they were the antagonists at first, of course. Han and Leia's children are lovable scoundrels. But one of them was a sith lord in the books, you know. Maybe the tables turn."

Jade looks like she'd kiss Ari if they were maybe any closer. That's not far from the truth, but of course she refrains. "A familial rivalry gives way for the children of the villains saving the galaxy, despite themselves? I like that." She clasps her hands together, like she's trying not to lean too close. "But if there's a sith lord in the Solo family, you should make it the daughter. Girls can be evil too." (The Jade Otterwell Motto.)

"So they're all working together for-" He pauses, wrinkles his nose and then continues, unwilling to wrinkle up the plot with too much input. He's conserving words. This is Ari's sequel. He's just observing. Intently. "Something and it's double-cross?"

Lucas' grin twitches as it broadens. He spares a glance at Bash before balling his hands to his fists and bouncing them off the side of the bed while chanting, "E-vil daugh-ter, E-vil daugh-ter."

"Okay, yes," Ari says, leaning back against the headboard of the bed with a thump and a grin. She pulls her laptop into her lap and taps her fingernails against the closed lid, as if she's considering writing all this down. "The Solo daughter can be a Sith, if the Fett daughter gets to be redeemed. Betrayal from all sides. And at least one of them has to steal the Falcon. Or there could be a tragic death."

If Jade knew at all how to operate a computer she'd be writing this down. As it is, she just kneels at Ari's side, probably looking as enamored as she is. "Both." Is her immediate solution to the plot outline. "A tragic death could inspire the Fett daughter to her redemption. There's hope even in death."

"Who we killing?" Bash shifts himself, one leg dangling over the edge of the bed and other knee bouncing. He is just here to soundboard. This is his position now. He's maintaining it. "Boba Fett? Han Solo? Chewbacca?" A beat, then he backtracks, head tipping slightly. "Maybe not Chewie?"

It just seems mean to kill Chewie.
bubblewrapped: (😱 yep seems so)

This entire scenario sounds wonderful to Lucas, whose nose scrunches with delight at the plot unfolding. He leans his head to one side. "Think you could get Harrison back if you're not also killing Han? You know how he is in interviews."

"Don't think of it as a downside," Ari suggests. "Think of it as an opportunity. Killing beloved characters off for shock is a done thing these days, isn't it?" She leans her head back and looks at Jade, who she's only just noticed is sitting rather close to her. Everything seems more acute when she's sitting on the same bed as her, and she can feel every shift of weight.

"Maybe Han thinks Chewbacca is dead," she offers after a second. It's a ridiculous plot thread to chase, but if you're going to kill Han Solo, you do it right.

Unfortunately, Jade is too excited to back off. "Maybe Chewbacca kills Han." She offers, making this even more far-fetched. She thinks it seems perfectly reasonable. "He's made to. It could be tragic."

Bash lets out a bark of laughter, sound bright and mildly scandalized. Like, damn. Way to go straight for the jugular.

"Like - mind trick?" his knee jitters, jostling against Lucas' side before he pins it with the heel of his hand. "Or blackmail? Or some sort of um, drug-induced rage thing?"
bubblewrapped: (😱 good things to say)

Lucas throws an arm out and points enthusiastically at Jade, eyes wide. "Definitely mind control, right?"

He's about to say more, but he bends away from Bash's leg, abrupt and ticklish, before rolling against him again. Lucas plops his hand down on Bash's knee - you know, to help still it. "And then it wears off right after? And his head clears and there's Han. His best friend. The person he swore a life debt to. Slain by his own hands." A pause. "Or light crossbow, maybe."
