Announcements: Candygrams & Gift Exchange!

In case anyone missed them yesterday, I'd like to draw everyone's attention to the two boxes that Event Committee has out in the lodge. This month's fundraiser is Mystery Candygrams! Perhaps a chocolate rose with a clever message to someone you admire could be the start of a fun "Find Me" game at the dance? We'll be making deliveries the Friday before the dance, so there's still plenty of time to ~~spend your money~~ decide!

In keeping with the mystery of the dance, we're also accepting donations for a White Elephant Gift Exchange! Event Committee "elves" will be passing out donated gifts to attendees on the night of the dance to add some extra fun to your evening.

If you have questions about either, or the dance itself, please don't hesitate to ask.

The fundraiser and gift exchange are underway and we've got Tally's band lined up to play as well as the cheer captains working to arrange a dance spectacle, so we're off to a good start.

Looks like mystery and romance are what everyone is craving for this particular dance, so let's talk theme and decorations some more? The ideas we've had floated so far are: carnival/carnivale, circus, Moulin Rouge, [...] ghost zoo, and [....] carnival of the dead.

Another dance season successfully kicked off. There's been chatter about it being more fun to fly solo for the evening, but I've given it some thought and while it wasn't an easy decision, I think I'll keep you.

No explosions. I worked pretty hard to get those lost points back last nonth and didn't even break even ~~because of all the dress code~~.

Well, that's an improvement at least.

It's doable but would require some rather heavy editing to get past Mr. Hightower, I think. Carnival's safer, I'd just like to steer towards an interpretation that didn't feel like we were doing Mardi Gras all over again.

Right, for sure. Maybe err more toward the idea of carnival than Mardi Gras. Midways and elephant ears and [...] magicians and stuff like that?

Thank you. ~~It's a welcome distraction and then we'll be home~~ I'm Seeing many late nights of sticking googly eyes to candy canes and studying for midterms in my future, but it'll be worth it.

I'm sure the Head Boy has more important things to do than fight with googly eyes, but if you're itching to do some crafting, it's not the worst distraction.

I think everyone thinks about it more than than they say. I [...] wish none of us were on guard like this.
Sometimes it does kind of feel like we're just pretending everything's the same. Maybe it can't be. But we're still going to have a good year. I'm not going to let the forest stop that, I've said so since the beginning.

I know we all chose to return, but you're right. It's [...] impossible to fully drop our guard. Maybe this is why we feel so disconnected from the underclassmen? [...] Ignoring the part where they're just hellions.

I think the underclassmen feel it too. At least the juniors. A lot of them were out there, with us. But they're [...] a little younger still. Maybe more optimistic. Not to mention really insular, that doesn't help. So yeah, you're right. It's not quite the same for them, I don't think.
I know we have to trust that MACUSA's got it taken care of.
I also know that's harder said than done, after everything.

We should play Clue again, now that we know how.
It's been a very good year, so far.

I was thinking of the other classes, not the juniors. The juniors are [...] impossible to understand for different reasons. At least they seem to have a strong support network among themselves.
I try to trust in the competence of the authority figures around us. Maybe it's naive, but the alternative seems maddening when there's so little we can do. [...] Maybe I'll join D+F after the holidays, to feel a little more prepared, beyond the patronus. I'm a terrible duellist, though.

I'd enjoy that. Maybe I could even track down that nice boy.
Last year had its highlights too.

I feel like we could incorporate a lot of those ideas! Most of them are similar and more distinctive things could be separated in a different section. We probably couldn't actually out right say we were going with Moulin Rogue, it'd probably get called too scandalous by the adults, but I THINK a lot of similar dress could be found in older carnival/circus attire if people wanted to go in that direction.

Yes, I think we can pull from the aesthetic and Madison's getting a dance spectacle put together, but an all-out Moulin Rouge is going to be asking for trouble on a number of fronts.

I'd like to steer away from feeling too much like last year's Mardi Gras, but carnival/circus or Venetian carnival would both be strong possibilities. Venetian's probably more in line with the formal, but circus is probably more fun? Sectioning things out again may be our best course of action. I like that idea.

My vote's on GHOST ZOO!!!!!

And oh I had an idea actually!!!! You know how the Anon Charm doesn't work in photographs???? What if I do like a SURPRISE PHOTO OP where you and a stranger pose for a picture together and we can post the photos up a day or two later so everyone can finally see who they were posing with????

What would ghost animal masks even look like? This theme doesn't have legs to stand on.

I'm [...] not opposed to Ghost Zoo but it may be more [...] impactful if we kept it to its own [...] featured section rather than built an entire dance around it.

The photo idea sounds like a lot of fun. Would you be bringing the photo booth or would this be a more roving cameraman sort of thing?

Omg, the photobooth last year was so cute.
