Mask-Making Event

Getting ready for the dance? Hoping to snoop on your fellow classmates? Looking for a break from exams (already)? Then come on down to the Atrium, where the Crafting Club is hosting a mask-making event!

Tables are arranged in a square around another larger table that is absolutely covered in crafting materials. There's cloth and plaster and polymer clay. There's paint and glitter and ribbon. There are sequins and feathers and just about anything else mask-makers might want. Fortunately, there are also mask bases for those that aren't feeling quite brave enough to start from scratch and members of the Crafting Club that are willing to answer questions and help out. Merry little snowflake-shaped lights run along the edges of the table, flickering between the colors of the four houses at a mellow pace, and holiday music is being played from...somewhere? The source may've been lost beneath the crafting supplies but the sound is still welcoming.

Students may choose to participate in a mask exchange at the end of the night (allowing them to leave with a mask other than their own and remain completely anonymous!), try to hide their project as they work (watch out for nosy neighbors!), or just accept that a handful of students may be able to pick them out. That's up to them! Cole has already created a few masks for the exchange, but he's keeping them out of sight for the time being.

HOW THIS WORKS

• Characters can either keep their own mask or participate in the mask exchange. Those participating in the exchange need to respond before 11:59PM CST on Tuesday so I can do the RNG and determine who is ending up with what mask! Obviously, characters don't have to wear the mask they get but that's the one they'll get from the event if they participate.


• The player whose character gets the HIGHEST roll will get to pick from all of the masks because their character got the first choice ICly! I will reach out to this person via email or dropbox.

Mask: Very feminine and pretty. It's soft but she likes it.

Mask: Hazel isn't planning on using any of the masks she's making tonight, so she's just having fun in the stupid crown she made and offering assistance to others if they need it. She's not exactly a crafting queen, but she's no slouch either! Though she makes a few masks, the one she's most proud of is very floral (and less perfect looking, probably).

Mask: I'm a little horrified to discover that a domino mask covered in googly eyes actually exists. She's got a theme going on right now. They're consuming her life.
Secrecy & Subterfuge!: This monstrosity is fully on display. She's not terribly interested in what everyone is wearing, but she may have an eye out for what Jaime's doing when the evening winds down.

Mask: Pan's mask is earnestly amateur. She spends far longer on it than it looks like it should have taken due to yammering at people about various final exam stuff and how EXCITED she is about SLEDDING!

Mask: It's very plain and roughly this but in plaster or clay. She made it very quietly and leaves it, dead eyes staring, at someone else's table before she gets up and leaves.

Mask: Heathcliff's mask started out as a joke with whoever's sitting at the table with him. What sort of mask do you even wear to a fancy masquerade? Well. Let him tell you! All things told, he put a decent amount of effort into it and, while simple, it's actually pretty clever. For something so stupid.
Secrecy & Subterfuge!: None of either. He's just here to have fun! And it's another excuse not to study.

Mask: Yancey, a great big artistic show-off, went with something very slightly seraphic but still simple. For the angel who wants to be able to easily make out while they anonymously impress people.

Name: Lachlan Galbraith
Mask: Lachlan went for a design that's both intricate and minimalist, requiring a steady hand and attention to detail more than anything. It's also traced from a design he got online; what does HE know about design? Leaning into his strong suits turned out to be a good idea, because the mask came out pretty well! He's happy with it and a bit reluctant to trade it away.
Secrecy & Subterfuge!: Lachlan came in with the intention of trading, so he's not attempting to hide anything he's doing and he'll definitely ask more experienced crafters for advice from time to time. While he wouldn't call it snooping, he's interested in what his friends are making and will glance at their projects from time to time.

Mask: Micah already has his own mask decided, but he felt like having fun, so he started gluing and painting things to a base mask with a vague idea in mind. Like a horror movie villain kind of aesthetic? It ends up coming out pretty well.
Secrecy & Subterfuge!: Nah, he is VERY HAPPY to show off the results.
Exchange?: Y! Don't give him the highest score, though, he doesn't deserve it.

Mask: Jaime is a disaster when it comes to anything crafty, but he shows up to do his best! And does his best! And it's still pretty not great. He's not super bothered by it, though. Sorry, anyone who gets this.
Secrecy & Subterfuge!: He just sort of assumes everyone is trading masks, and the mystery is kind of fun anyways so he doesn't try to get a look at what anyone else is working on. He does pester Lachlan and Oz some, but it's just because he can't stay focused for very long ever.

Name: Dinah Dixon
Mask: Dinah just starts slapping paint and feathers and glitter on this sucker and she goes hella overboard. It's TASTEFUL and she would proudly wear it herself if she wasn't worried about it overshadowing the beard she thinks she needs.
Secrecy & Subterfuge!: Dinah has never managed a secret in her life. She is very nosy though, and if you manage to draw her out of the arts and crafts k-hole she's swimming in then she'd start snooping on fellow artists' masterpieces.

Mask: Pear is nothing if not predictable!! Her unicorn mask was definitely created from a template.

Mask: Cole isn't actually crafting today because he anticipated that he'd have to run things and help other students; he was mostly right. However, he did come with two masks to put into the exchange! One is a leather mask of winter trees. The other is a pale barn owl mask that covers the entire face. It's not ideal for anyone looking for romance at the dance...but it does glow in the dark?
Secrecy & Subterfuge!: Nope and nope!
Exchange?: Yep! Though, since he's not going to the dance, he's not taking a mask.
Anything else?: Cole is in a good mood tonight and happy to do what anyone needs him to do. He likes making masks, guys~

Ennis

Name: Ennis Harper
Mask: Ennis already has a lot of progress made on his mask when he brings it in. Today, he's working on the paint job. It's a full face mask for his LARP character, Josephine, meant to go with the mourning dress that's been steadily coming together on the dress form near his bunk for a few weeks now.
Secrecy & Subterfuge!: Ennis isn't being secretive about it at all and doesn't care who comes snooping around him. He's working on his own super secret project so he's happy to let people think that this is what he's wearing to the masquerade.

He doesn't really see the point in trying to snoop too hard since the masks are being traded around anyway. If he sees a mask, he makes a mental note to remember it so he can at least narrow down the owner to one of the participants.

MASK EXCHANGE!

It's time for the exchange! All of the participating students are gathered to draw lots to determine who gets first pick. This person will not only get to take their favorite mask with them but they'll also be the only person that sees all of them. How exciting! Jade Otterwell comes out on top and will get to pick! She is told to keep her favorite mask in her mind while all of the masks are placed into one small but clearly charmed box. She is then obscured behind a curtain while she opens it. When she does, her favorite is the only one inside. It's Ursula's mask! She takes it, hides it in her bag and goes on her way.

The remaining students then take turns opening the box to receive their masks!*

Ursula and Ferdie

As part of Ursula's role as president of the Event Committee, she considers it important to do what she can to support the other clubs. But that doesn't matter tonight, because there's absolutely no extra push required for her to attend and put her measly crafting skills to use. It's still a few hours before panic will be descending on Ribbonfin's camp. Plenty of time to have fun with felt and glitter.

The candy cane reindeer had seemed like a cute idea when there was only one of them. Now she couldn't open her bag without googly eyes bursting out. They made for an amusing distraction during studying, but maybe there was a reason Crafting Club hadn't provided any in their mask making supplies. Because, this? This mask should be promptly tossed in the rubbish bin.

But Ursula thinks she's very funny. There's also no way that she's going to a dance wearing this mask, concealed identity or not. As she sticks the fiftieth or so plastic eye to her mask, she holds it up to her face, and shakes it a little so all fifty or so eyes jiggle back and forth. "What do you think? Needs more eyes?"
