Lachlan goes quiet but then he reaches across the table, taking Ennis' hands for a moment and giving them a firm squeeze. "Aye. I know you have been. And you're...too kind for your own good sometimes, you know? Big heart." He smiles wanly, looking at the Ribbonfin with a blend of admiration and regret as he squeezes his hands again and then draws back. He's just hurting all of his friends today.
He looks down at the table and puts the bent card into his jacket pocket before he answers. "I...dinnae know if I could fancy Jaime. But I know I dinnae now. We're close. But we're mates. I...dinnae want to be more than mates." He pulls in a breath and presses the heels of hands briefly against his eyes, trying to force some of the anxious tension out of himself without any real success. Once he's lowered his hands, though, he immediately stands up and gives Ennis an apologetic look.
