MACUSA HOLIDAY PARTY

Merry Christmas, MACUSA babies! Most of the country is freezing its butt off, so the powers that be agreed to take their holiday party to sunny southern California, where the lights are in the palm trees and Santa wears a tank top. Good job not destroying Wizarding America this year, guys, now drink up!

The ballroom at the Hotel Del Coronado is lavishly decorated, in a true show of fiscal conservancy and moderation. There are half a dozen over the top Christmas trees, a towering ice sculpture of two mermaids fighting a water kelpie, an absurdly tall chocolate fountain next to an absurdly tall champagne fountain, two open bars so no one has to cross an entire room to freshen up their drink, and just tables and tables of food. All that’s missing is, well, a place for everyone to sit. There are about half as many tables and chairs as there really should be, leaving several very important adults standing around, trying to look cool as they spill au jus down their fronts. What a scandal.

Entertainment is not lacking, however. Snoop Crupp canceled with two days to spare, and Childish Geminio and Casey Carney were both unable to come on such short notice, but don’t worry, they managed to get everyone’s fourth choice: Garth Squonks! He plays all night, and it’s difficult to persuade him to stop, even when some very important government officials try to make a speech.

The hotel is right on the beach, which is much less supervised, but still close enough to hear the music. Lucky you! It’s not terribly chilly, even in the middle of the winter, but there’s a small fire pit for the kids to gather around, get some fresh air, and maybe enjoy some ill-gotten alcohol.

HOW THIS WORKS

• All MACUSA employees and their families are welcome! Don’t worry too much about how many people are there if everyone and their receptionist got to invite their entire family, that’s what magic is for. The beach is also open to the public, so get creative.


• There are two open bars, and one of the bartenders clearly put in his two weeks’ notice thirteen days ago because he’s not doing a great job of checking IDs. Want to see who successfully procured alcohol? Post your form here, and be sure to leave a tip.

» BALLROOM: A large, beautifully decorated ballroom, with Christmas lights dripping from every corner. Not enough seats, and Garth Squonks won’t shut up, but still pretty.

» BEACH: The beach is right outside the hotel, close enough to pop in and out if you want to booze and schmooze with both crowds. There’s a small fire pit for people to gather around away from adult eyes.

» ELSEWHERE: It’s a big hotel. There’s an entire island, and across the bridge, the city of San Diego. Go forth and make trouble.

Oh my god, there's no snow. It's not, like, completely pitch black out. There's a city across the water. God why would anyone ever move away from this place, or any place that has people at all.

"You look like my dad," Riley says, stretched out like a cat in the sand. Ennis does not look that much like her dad, but Riley also didn't look that close. All scruffy white guys look the same to her.

Bird Cops Get Tipsy

Mackenzie kicked off her heels as the reached the sand, and now teeters barefoot over to Reece with a bottle of something that looks strong and expensive in her hand. It's not easy sitting down in her cocktail dress, all fitted holiday sequins, but she manages. Even with the bonfire, the sand's a little cold.

"No glasses," she laments. "We're really roughing it tonight, Downing." She uncaps the bottle, and offers him the first taste of overpriced whisky. She's already got a buzz thanks to the extremely agreeable bartender. "Cheers."

Reid & Please Take This Off His Hands

Reid sits cross-legged and pretty drunk on the beach. He's been silent for a while, but that's not unusual. And then suddenly, he pulls a napkin out of his jacket pocket and speaks up.

"Anyone want the bartender's number?" It's the first notable thing he's said since leaving the party.

Gwen had only attended to join Ursula and the others on the beach, so her outfit was barely cocktail hour worthy. Her grandmother was busy inside schmoozing (and complaining) with her old Macusa friends, so Gwen slipped out with the others to hang at the beach. She produced a bottle of hard cider from her bag. "Okay, pity me, I don't know how to party on a beach. I know, it's terrible. We aren't swimming, right?" She was a terrible swimmer.

Ursula & Ferdie

Well, that was one item Ursula could check off her bucket list. Sure, his name hadn't been Antonio or Ferdinand, but the promise of a hot shirtless guy had absolutely been delivered on. After that, the quality of the pizza didn't matter much. Or, really, eating the pizza at all. The tip, and various tokens of affection, the delivery guy had left with were well deserved.

If Ursula felt an ounce of shame about Ferdie witnessing this display, she didn't show it. She did lean over and whisper "You're cuter" louder than she had meant to, and not quite before the delivery guy had left. Bless Scott and his early retirement fund.

The late dinner conversation with the girls lulled, Ursula takes Ferdie's hand and tugs him towards the water, an opened bottle in one hand, high heels.. somewhere. She could find them later. "Come on. My mother sends her best," she grins, holding the bottle towards him, "and I fully intend to share."

Nia & Addy

She put the bird-shaped hair clip in her hair. And then she took it out again. And then she did that five more times, sliding it into different spots, staring at herself in the mirror and tilting her head this way and that. Until it became an absurd amount of time to fret over a hair clip. Until her arms were tired and she felt really silly for getting this worked up about what was probably nothing more than some experimentation at an anonymous dance.

So, ultimately, the bird clip winds up in the pocket of the light floral duster she throws over the rest of her outfit. And it sits there all evening while Nia mingles on the beach and attempts to get at least a little drunk. Occasionally, she runs her fingers over it as a sort of reassurance.

Thankfully, her finally achieving a manageable buzz coincides with spotting Addy alone. And Nia shoves her hand in her pocket, wrapping her fingers around the bird clip, as she plops down in the sand next to her. "Hey, cutie," she greets, rosy-cheeked, with a wink. "Successfully boozing on the beach?"

Two Bad Fish, One Bad Idea

It's late in the evening and Ennis has changed out of his suit and into his trunks and festive Hawaiian shirt. Garth Squonk's endless crooning carries out to the poolside and he drunkenly dances in place by the water's edge as he waits for Yancey to join him. They have an Idea that currently seems both ingenius and hilarious to Ennis.

"Misty thirsts," he calls back to Yancey, "She craves more hydration!"

SORRY FOR DERAILING AAAAAAAAAAA but if anyone wants a thread, i'd be happy for it~

Ennis will be be a scruffy, disheveled professor-type who goes by Dennis Harper and claims to be Ennis's older brother if any of the parents from Cotillion ask. He'll buy booze from the closest Muggle liquor store for any of the kids at the beach if they help fund the efforts. And....... he'll realize how weird he looks hanging out with teenagers once they're away from the other adults.

Charlie is here! I don't know what she's doing! Except maybe taking selfies with Ennis so this can become canon.

Ursula is obviously here and open for sceneing. She's not nearly as concerned about pleasing old people tonight and will definitely be hunting down some booze.

Pear is here being awkward and is probably going to emulate London's worst ideas since she seems to know what to do at a fancy party. She is also a giant so we'll see if she can get booze.

Aaaand.. I have no idea if Essie is here or if Jeffy made the wiser decision of rampaging New York pastry shops with her.

HI GUYS, I'll be leaving work in like 20 minutes so I can properly be here and roll for the alcohol and everything.

Rosy is obviously here, probably trying to avoid Alastair du Pont and hoping her parents don't notice her slip out so she can get fucked up on expensive champagne on the beach or something.

Riley escaped Alaska for this and will be too drunk to even work her grandparents' floo to get back tonight. Her punishment will be that she doesn't see the horrible dress she's going to wear to this wedding.

And idk if Dinah is here. If Nisha was allowed to bring her pirate friend she might have changed out of her chameleon onesie for this.

Yancey!! is here for the beach and the MACUSA party. He is "babysitting" his wee sisters, which basically means laughing when they get themselves in trouble and sort of making sure they're not dead.

Nia!! is here for drunken beach shenanigans!! And my oh my what shenanigans they'll be.

Nisha!! is here!! With Dinah in tow!! Her mom and dad are around which means she's a little high strung but as soon as they're out of sight she's ready to be a monster.
