Inside, he'll find the following:
-A flat knot hemp bracelet made with tan hemp and strung with glass beads. Three are Azurcrest blue and, positioned between these, are beads which have small and intricate designs on them. One has a pattern of tiny blue jays, one is gold and has a honeycomb pattern, and another has music notes. The bracelet isn't perfect, but it seems to have been made with some care and is affectionately campy.
-A small bag filled with homemade blackberry-pecan linzer cookies.
-A note, which reads:
I warned you, didn't I? You're obligated to wear this to the grave now! Or not. ♥ Anyway, there're some cookies too, to remind you that I'm not horrible at everything.
Cecil
PS - Yes, Maggie showed me how to make this. The Head Girl continues to outshine the Head Boy!

Diego eagerly and curiously opens it, hoping it's from Cecil, who's the prime suspect in these parts when it comes to passing out surprise packages in pretty ribbons. When he sees the cookies inside, he knows he's right, and he feels his insides seize up in a way they didn't used to when Cecil did things like this. And then he sees the bracelet, too, and he knows exactly what it is.
He has to read the note twice, because he's so giddy he doesn't really absorb the words the first time around. Afterwards though, he hurries out of his bunk, jumping the last two rungs of the ladder.
"Cecil! I can't believe you sometimes." Which is a lie. He absolutely can. Of course Cecil would take a stupid joke like that and make it achingly sincere. Diego's already putting on the bracelet, using his teeth to help him secure the knot.

"You're ridiculous." But Diego says that like it's a glowing compliment from the bottom of his heart. "I need to make you one, too, right? I mean, you can't have just one friendship bracelet. They're made for a pair." Diego emphasizes his statement by lightly play kicking Cecil's leg.

The point about friendship bracelets coming in pairs, however obvious it seems as soon as Diego says it, appears to give Cecil pause. Then a sheepish expression touches his face and he puts one hand to the back of his neck as he admits, "A slight oversight on my part. I mean...if you want to?"

"Your ridiculousness is one of the reasons I love you." Jesus, that's a heavy word now. Diego turns to grab a nearby armchair and drags it around to face Cecil. He may be a great deal shorter, but he's nearly as strong (or so he likes to think). "You're the only person I know that would have done something like this. It... I mean. I'm just trying to say thank you."

After a pause, he moves to touch the wrist where Diego has fastened the bracelet, turning it a little and then tapping one of the beads: the one with the blue jays. Then he raises his dark eyes to Diego's again, asking lightly, "What do you think? Too obvious?"

"No, it's perfect. You, me, and Azurcrest." When he looks back down at the beads and Cecil's fingers on his wrist, his stomach flip flops again. He takes a deep breath, and tries to keep his tone casual as he speaks. "You mean a lot to me, too. I'm not always sure how to say it, but one day I'll figure something out."

"Yes, technically, but there's always a better way to put it. For you, it was a bracelet."
