I don't take Potions, but I was passing by on my way from History and heard some kids talking about the Amortentia thing. Elmasry seemed to be letting anyone with the manners to ask really nicely go in and smell it, but he was definitely watching it carefully, which was reassuring.

Seems like the predominant smell categories were food and plants. Did you fall in line with the rest of us?

Actually, no. Only one of mine was food related, and I only had time to pick out four or five.

You got the fun part of that lesson. Amortentia is a difficult potion to make. But hopefully the last time I ever have to make it.

This would be two of the many reasons I don't take Potions. But hey, it must be nice to know you can do something so difficult!

I suppose it did make for good practice. I'll have to be making lots of complicated potions like that after I leave school.

Oh... I loved the smell, but I think that's the point, isn't it? It was so interesting. One second I'd be thinking it was the woods out where we play LARP, and then it turned into my grandmother's tandoori chicken (which I honestly haven't smelled in years), and then... other things. Campfires, and the stream that goes through Ribbonfin. I hadn't realized how much of Gooseberry I would smell. What about you?

I had really specific scents rather than concepts, which is why I guess it was so confusing. I mean, some of it could have been Gooseberry, but they were vague enough that maybe they weren't, you know? There was definitely leather, but I couldn't tell if it was a saddle or boots. There was the musky smell after someone exercises, some kind of deodorant or cologne, and something that reminded me of home cooking of some kind.

What did you smell? Unless it's rude to ask that outside of the classroom! I don't know if it is, obviously, because I don't have any experience with love potions. [...] Obviously.

I've no idea who it might be, so I don't mind. I definitely got leather, and the musky smell after someone exercises. There was what I guess might be men's deodorant or cologne, but not one I recognised. There was definite home cooking smell to it, too.

Have you done yours yet?

Oohh, interesting!! Do you think it could be a specific person's musky sweat smell? GROSS I didn't think about asking Mr. Elmasry if we smelled people or concepts or whatever. But it's probably just the second one?

I'm not in Potions either so I went in after the junior class. I had food stuff (like cheeseburgers and some nomaj candies and fruity stuff) and stables and weird plastic. And tree smells. And a thing that made me think of quilts and I don't get it but that's probably why I'm not in Potions anymore.

No, I mean, say person A and person B both take, I dunno, Art class and are both in boating. Person A might smell both oil paints and the smell of weeds at the side of the lake because both scents remind them of person B.

BUT I am vvvv pro making candles out of them bc they smell so goooood

I feel like using the actual Amortentia in a candle might have a similar effect to dosing though? I dunno, I'm awful at potions. But like, prolonged exposure might have an effect.

I see your point though. I mean, even if your smells are weird, they're in your Amortentia for a reason.

I would have dropped Potions ages ago, but Papá M is still hoping I will wake up one day and want to be a Healer. It is never happening.

The potion smelled very comforting to me and thankfully there were no unpleasant surprises. Judging by the faces some people were making, I do not think everyone can say that. I hope you liked yours - perhaps there was even a bit of flannel smell. ;)

I think he knows better by now, but he insists that Potions is absolutely ~essential~ to any magical education. Though I must admit knowing how to brew pain salves is not such a bad thing.

Yes, this is what I imagine Nate must smell like. Lots and lots of flannel.
