INTERHOUSE SNOWBALL FIGHT

INTERHOUSE
SNOWBALL FIGHT

A challenge has been put out: Coppertale calls all houses to their home turf, for a brutal snowball fight to determine who's the best house in Gooseberry. In the field behind the Coppertale campground, walls have been raised. Fortifications have been built. Ammunition has been stacked. They're ready for this.

At 2 PM, a whistle's blown, and the battle begins. Every fighter is given a long piece of cloth in their house colour, to tie around their arm (or otherwise display in some obvious manner) to show their team allegiance. Snow forts for each house have been designated (in the north, east, west and south of the battleground), where fighters can regroup behind their defenses and build more snowballs. Each fort also prominently displays their flag (a Quidditch team pennant), which other houses will attempt to steal to claim victory. Last house standing is the winner.

SNOWBALL FIGHT RULES

  • Every fighter must display their house colour at all times, for easy identification.

  • Each house must leave their flag to be prominently displayed on top of their snow fort. Other houses must be able to tell at a glance where your flag is.

  • Once a flag is stolen, it can be taken back so long as it's still on the battleground. Once a flag has been taken back to an enemy fort, the losing house is eliminated from the fight.

  • Fighters can only fight with snow. This means: no punching, kicking or other forms of bodily contact; no rocks or ice in snowballs; no attacks of any kind that aren't snowballs. Bodily contact is allowed when taking back a flag, but prefects have the authority to eliminate any player who gets too violent.

  • The use of traps is permitted to defend forts, but must only use snow. It's a friendly snowball fight, you're not actually supposed to make anyone bleed.

HOW THIS WORKS

  • Every character has 5 turns, i.e. an RNG roll of 1–10. They may use a turn to either bolster their house's defenses or attack another player.

  • To bolster your house, post to your house's Fort. The points rolled for your turn will be added to your house's score. If you do not specify the number of turns you want to use to help your house, the default is one (1) turn.

  • To attack other players, post your character to the Battleground. Any comments you make to another character's first Battleground comment will be assumed to be an attack. The points rolled for your turn will be subtracted from their house's score.
    • Your attacks will not be counted unless your character has posted themselves as open to attack on the Battleground.

    • You may attack the same player multiple times. If you want to use multiple turns in one comment, leave an OOC note (i.e. [Three rolls against Sandford please!]) to let the mods know. Otherwise, the default is one (1) turn used.

    • You may attack members of your own house.

  • All houses start with 15 points. Anyone who reduces a house to negative points has stolen their flag. Anyone who gets their house back to positive points has stolen the flag back.

  • Turns will be rolled and used up in the order they're posted. For instance, if Zion uses 2 turns to help Coppertale, then attacks Basil, then attacks Nicholas, then uses a turn to help Coppertale, then attacks Peyton, the last attack against Peyton will not be counted because Zion already used up her five turns. (If a mod has mixed up your intended actions, just let us know and we'll correct it!)

  • If you don't want to use up a turn, make an OOC note so the mods know not to roll for you.

  • It is not necessary to post to both your Fort and the Battleground if you don't want to, i.e. you can use all of your turns on bolstering your house, or use all of your turns on attacking other players.

  • Rolls will be counted until Mon, Jan 8 at 11:59 PM MT. The house with the highest score will be the last house standing.

Tally & Webster

Webster sees Tally on the sidelines and takes this opportunity to come over to her. He's been feeling weird about what's happened the last few days -- and while Kenzie warded him to say she and Tally no longer think he said those things -- Webster hasn't gotten a chance to talk to Tally himself. He doesn't approach the situation directly though. "Hey, how's it going?"

"Oh," Tally sniffs, glancing at him sidelong. "Hi Webster."

Kenzie had already explained to Tally that the whole thing with Webster and Cameron trash-talking her behind her back was probably just a prank. She's inclined to believe her sister, and she hadn't really wanted to believe that her cool older friends secretly hated her anyway, but she's never been good at admitting that she was wrong. So she hasn't actually talked to either of them yet.

She's absently packing some snow into a snowball that probably won't get any use unless somebody strays too close to her. It seems like she might not say anything else. But after a moment, she finally continues.

"Kenzie said lots of people have been hearing other people's voices lately," she says.

"Yeah, she told me the same thing." He stands there a moment longer as Tally packs her snowball. It feels a like the conversation might already be over. Which... is fine, Webster supposes. As much as he hates conflict, he can't force resolution.

"I'll see you back out there," he says before turning towards to the battlefield. He gets no more than a few paces before a flurry of snowballs flying every which way stops him in his tracks. Maybe he'll wait one more minute for things to calm down.

He turns back, and feeling the need to say something, informs Tally, "I'm just gonna wait here a moment longer." He takes a few steps away from her and sits in the snow. He reaches into a jacket pocket and pulls out a bag of almonds. He takes off a glove, unwinds his scarf from around his neck and face (which bare signs of the Pimple Plague), and starts snacking in silence.

She sits quietly for awhile, pursing her lips and not-quite ignoring Webster's presence. Finally, she tries to strike up a conversation.

"I'm probably still going to do something on harp for the talent show," she says. She's been bouncing back and forth between wanting to do this duet with Webster and wanting to perform with her band. But she gets to perform with her band a lot, sometimes even for the school, and... honestly, she doesn't think No Scrubs is going to impress her dad. So she's been weird about it since she heard the parents were coming to the performance. "If you still need a group."

"Honestly," Webster says, rotating himself towards her, "I'd really like that." And he would. "But only if you'd really like that, too." They haven't really talked about the incident besides a back-and-forth in the journals right after it happened. He wants to ask how she's feeling now. To make sure she and they are okay. Maybe even let her know he was offended that she thought he'd say those things.

He takes a look at the sophomore and decides not to push the issue. "The talent show should be fun," he settles on, "so I just want to make sure you're doing the act you most want to do."
