I am so proud of all of you. Everyone's tryout was phenomenal, and I couldn't be happier with how well you all worked individually and as teams with everyone you tried out with.

I will reassess our practice schedule when we get the schedules for Team Gooseberry's practices.

I'm upset. I am a terrible captain and I suck as a keeper. I'm never gonna make it as a Quidditch player.

Oh hun, you’re not a terrible captain. This isn’t a reflection of the big leagues. It’s just rough luck.

Rough luck two years in a row? First Vasquez, and now Wilde? And my team hates me, so there's that.

That’s how you get to be an underdog. And I’m sure your team doesn’t hate you. You just got Evercreech, who I’m fairly certain hates most things that breathe and Ramon, who probably can’t muster the energy to hate anything. They’re prickly, but they probably like you just fine.

No, they just plain don't like me. Calvin likes a lot of things. He came into the squad all excited and nice and then I'm awful and suck at everything and he hates me. Ramon has always hated me, because I suck. Eve is new and doesn't want to make waves but I'm sure she disagrees with me half the time, too. Peyton is quiet but she's young. So's Toby, who would probably hate me too if he cared much at all.

I don't know about Gwen. I think she likes me as a person, but she also loves Calvin so I doubt she likes me as a Captain.

I know you’re not going to want to hear this, but I’ve learned a lot as a prefect and sometimes, people just won’t like you, even when you want them to, even when you try to make them. Sometimes there just isn’t anything for you to fix. You don’t suck. You’re not awful at Quidditch and you’re not awful at leading. You’re just down and that’s understandable and if you want me to come over right now, I’ll bring ice cream.

I'm okay right now, I'm with Gwen. We're having a pity party.

After dinner I'm coming over for ice cream, though. Or you can come here, whichever. Rosy is making us celebrate so [...] I expect I'll need a bit of cheering up after that, too.

I'm supposed to be Captain and be a great Keeper and I suck. I suck as a Captain and I'm a terrible Keeper, we lose because I can't keep the stupid quaffle out of the stupid hoops and I didn't even deserve to be a stupid reserve but they had no one else.

Evercreech, Toby, Ramon and Gwen all played well during their try out, and you’re the first captain any of them have had, you’re the only captain. We’re a reflection of you, and that reflection is that half your team made the school team. That’s not a bad reflection.

~~You know what else they have in common? They mostly hate me, or think I'm doing it wrong, or disagree wi~~ You think they'd prioritize the seniors, given it's our last chance to play but I guess not.

I don't know how they decide these teams but it feels like crap and I'm sorry you didn't make it. You should have.

It’s not your last chance. We have a whole season ahead of us. Millions of players before us have gone pro without the crutch of a school wide team, I’m sure millions after us will. It doesn’t define you, it just illuminates you. You illuminate yourself.

To be your only chaser that didn’t even make reserve smarts a bit, yeah. But I don’t exactly need it for scouts when my last name is what it is. So I’m happy Evercreech gets to play in front of scouts and against Hogwarts, that’s probably extremely important for him. He seems to be trying to redefine himself here and playing against our old school will likely help with that redefinition.

Peyton didn't, either. Only Toby made reserve. A lot of people didn't even try out, it was a weird day and we did the best we could. I wouldn't have been reserve either if anyone else had tried seeing as I made reserve last year ~~and did nothing then either, apparently I haven't even improved. This is my peak, and it's not~~ I'm glad Calvin made it, too. I know he's put a lot of effort into this. ~~I mean we all have but~~

Peyton didn’t try out, she gets a pass. But don’t worry about it, love. I know you have a lot riding on this. You’re captain, it probably sucks to see less experienced players making something you wanted to make, when graduation is looming and the season is uncertain. But this season will be a good one, cap. You just gotta give us a chance.

It does, but it's not you guys I'm not giving a chance. I believe in all of you, one hundred percent. You know that. I have no doubts about you guys. You are all phenomenal players.

You wouldn’t be a good captain if you didn’t have self doubt. That just makes you human, Avery.
