JANUARY GROTTO PARTY

It's frigid in January, so bundle up before sneaking out to the Grotto. While creeping out into the woods, [Character A] and their friends run into Mr. Merrill who tells them to be mindful of curfew with a knowing wink. It may be noticeably warmer near the empty stone building, but it's not a night for short skirts. A light snowfall starts up just as the party does, clinging to hair and encouraging people to stay near the fire or in the stone building.

The Grotto's been decorated with golden lights that hang in the trees and some of them spell out HAPPY NEW YEAR, twinkling like stars. The trees overhead shower everyone with iridescent gold glitter that clings to hair and cheeks.

RULES

• If this is your first time at a Grotto party, welcome! Although the Grotto is forbidden in the school rules, you can assume your characters a) have heard about the party and b) make it past any adults who are walking the trails. Just be casual!


• There are two routes to the Grotto: in the woods near Bear Trail, and in the woods near Ribbonfin campsite.


• The party starts at 6:30 PM, and runs until 10 PM. The prefects are strictly enforcing curfew, and will start breaking things up at 9:30 PM.

RULES

1. Teen peer pressure (and player sadism) aside, no one is obligated to do anything they don't want to. Characters doing Seven Minutes In Heaven can spend the time just talking or staring awkwardly at each other, and characters playing Spin The Bottle can opt out of a kiss (although people will probably boo).


2. If characters get up to anything more racy than PG-13, please fade to black on that! This includes sexually explicit conversations. Many people track IC/OOC posts, so please have consideration for your fellow players. Talking about sex is fine (and part of the flavour of a teen game), but there's no need to get into detailed descriptions of anatomy or sex acts.


3. If you'd like to say two characters were partners in STB or 7MIH in addition to what's been rolled, go ahead! Obviously, get the permission of all involved characters first.

» Before the Party: Throw on your best clothes (but bundle up, it's very cold!), prep your hair and makeup, and get ready to sneak out of your cabins. Be careful not to get caught by any teachers or MACUSA agents! Going into the forest isn't against the rules, but the Grotto is still a forbidden area.

» Around the Fire: The large bonfire is warm and romantic. Pull up a log and grab a blanket, make some s'mores, or dance to the party music. There's beer and soda in the ice chests, along with bins for empty bottles and cans. Don't litter. This isn't your home.

» Movie Screening: Not too far from the fire, a white sheet has been hung up between the trees, and blankets and pillows have strewn around the grass. Starting at 7:30 PM, there will be a screening of Children of the Corn. Bags of popcorn are also served.

» Truth or Shot: Around the bonfire, there's a circle of students serving up shots and asking personal questions. The rules are simple: tell the truth, or take a shot. Post your characters to this comment with their name in the header, and other characters will ask you uncomfortable questions.

» Inside the Building: This may be where the kissing games are taking place, but there's still some room to just snuggle and chat. It's warmer than outside, at least!

» Kissing Games:

• Spin The Bottle: Everyone sits in a circle and takes turns spinning the bottle to find their partner. Anyone who squeezes in (or happens to be accidentally standing behind a gap in the circle) gets a shot at a kiss. People can leave and enter the game at any time. Participants will be encouraged by their drunken classmates to kiss on the mouth.


• Seven Minutes in Heaven: "Heaven" is a narrow, closet-sized room adjacent to the main party, and is dark except for some cracks of light from the doorway. There's now a proper wooden door on the closet, and people will magically lock it behind you for 7 minutes. You can use your wand to get more light, but really, you two should be making out.

» By The Woods: The prefects won't be letting anyone wander in, but why would you want to anyway? Still, the treeline is a good place to go if you want a quiet moment away from the party.

» After the Party: Between 9:30 PM and 10:00 PM, prefects will be clearing the party and guiding everyone home.

Ursula leans out of Yancey's bunk, still unsuccessful at prying any interesting information out of him about his recent behavior. She scans a critical eye over Ennis and smiles. "I like it. It's different. You should all consider getting one," she declares to the room. It's impossible to know how serious she's actually being. "Finally start up Ferdie's motorcycle gang."

Ursula's approval is all he needs to feel good about his wardrobe decision. That uncertain frown turns upside down and he beams brightly at her in return.

"Ooh, a motorcycle gang! We can get a tiny jacket for Newt, too!"

"Oh, that would be so cute! You should do that." For her part, Gwen isn't dressed any differently, just wearing jeans and a dark blue sweater, making it unclear if she still plans to go. But she likes hanging out with her fellow Big Fish. Perching on the edge of Kurt's bunk, she swings her legs a little as she watches the preparations. "He can be your gang mascot."

"You look very good!" Chloe declares, reaching up to push the hair out of his eyes affectionately. "But you need some kind of accessory. Oh, hold on, let me see if I've got anything!" she says, gesturing for them to stay while she runs back to the girls' cabin.

Ursula raises her eyebrows as she watches Chloe dash off. "Very mysterious. Guesses on what she comes back with?

"Sword." Yancey says while he tries to decide which slight variation on the same preppy shirt he'll wear tonight. His answer is always sword. Except when it isn't. "Or nose ring."

He wordlessly gestures with the shirts at Ursula, trying to get her to make a decision for him. "Oh! We could call ourselves the Heck's Angelfish." Stop talking, Yancey.

"Yea, that strikes fear into hearts everywhere," Gwen teases, with a shake of her head, her smile indulgent. "Though maybe we should all roll into the party in matching leather jackets. Really up the Fin image."

"And motorcycle noise sound effects with our wands." Ferdie's not sure this is possible, and is mostly just hanging out in the back of the cabin. He's in a normal jacket, not leather at all. The biker image would have to wait for another day.

Chloe returns pink cheeked from the wind, her portion of the cabin almost certainly looking even worse after her search than it did before. She hands Ennis a necklace and bracelet, which aren't quite as cool as a sword. "You don't have to wear them, but I thought they kind of go with it?"

Late as usual, Avery slips in a bit after everyone else. "Wow, Ennis. I love that jacket." Completely unaware of what the conversation was about, she digs the look Ennis is rocking and nods her head in clear approval. Waving a quick hello to everyone, she takes a seat on the floor by Yancey's bed, nearer to Ursula. "What did I hear about motorcycle noises with our wands?"

Ennis isn't super crazy about Chloe's necklace, but he at least slips the bracelet on to be polite. It looks like lava rock, which grants strength and courage. At least he believes it.

"We're forming a motorcycle gang called Hell's Angelfish and we're all going to wear leather jackets and wield swords," he informs Avery as he tries to slyly set the necklace aside on his desk before grabbing the staff propped up beside his dresser. "Do you think this would work instead?"

"Heck's Angelfish," Ursula corrects as she finally settles on which of Yancey's nearly identical tops seems most befitting of teen drinking party in a magical forest. "Some words are simply far too scandelous to be uttered near fishy ears."

She shoves the shirt, which looks suspiciously similar to the 'aw shucks gimme some extra credit, yeah?' shirt, at Yancey and steps outside his bunk to give him some privacy, naturally finding her way over to Ferdie's side. She crinkles her nose up as she considers Ennis' staff. "That's a lot of look," she assesses, Ribbonfin diplomacy kicking into full effect. "You might be able to fit one of my dagger's in your boot."

...Foam daggers. That should probably be clarified for the kids in the room who don't spend their Saturday afternoons beating each other up with foam weapons.

"Why not both?" Yancey asks from behind his privacy curtain, voice muffled by the rustling of fabric as he quickly swaps shirts.

"Oh, sorry, H-E Double Hockey Stick's Angelfish," he corrects with a shitty little grin, twirling his staff in his hands to show it off. It doesn't look as cool or badass as he's imagining it. "Yeah, why not both? I could tape the dagger to the end of my staff to make it a polearm."

"Sounds like a logical decision to me." She agreed. She wasn't in LARP and didn't really understand how it worked, but she'd always be behind any of her fishy family's ideas.

"I thought all our enemies were ghosts," Gwen points out, with a critical look, although she still seems amused. "I'm not sure how effective foam weapons will be."

Oof. Yikes. Ennis lowers his staff and looks like he's about to say something in the ghosts' defense, but decides better. Instead, he turns the attention back to Yancey and walks over to tap his staff against the privacy curtain. "Did you get your head stuck in your collar?"

After a second, Yancey pokes his head out from behind the curtain, smiling bright.

"I figured it out, eventually," he assures everyone, taking in a few of the expressions. The corners of his mouth twitch and he turns his attention to Ennis. "Look at you. You know what this outfit needs? A knife-staff. For sure."

"Oh, fer sure," Ennis agrees, mimicking Yancey's accent as a grin creeps back onto his face. "What weapon are you bringing?"

"Just my disarming smile," Yancey winks and disappears back behind the curtain to finish up.

"You're playing bard, then?" he quips as Yancey ducks back into his hidey hole.

Kurt's late to the pre-party party. He didn't know that there was one, but he also doesn't seem very surprised that there's a moot happening in the middle of his cabin. Post-shower hair sticking in every direction (he makes a nominal effort to pat it into place), he throws his towel onto the hook and gravitates toward Chloe. Naturally. Fine, then he gravitates toward Newt, who he picks up before shuffling back to Chloe.

"I-is Yancey changing his LARP character again, or?"
