SENIOR MONTHLY BONDING

Monthly bonding is, as always, greeted with mixed enthusiasm. All the seniors will be taking boats out to Lone Wolf Island for a day hike, led by Mrs. O'Hare. There are storm clouds looming, but Mrs. O'Hare is certain that it's not going to be a big deal, and no gosh darn storm's going to keep her grounded!

Everything starts out normal enough, but unfortunately, Mrs. O'Hare's optimism has reached a little too far this time. An intense storm sets in, and the waters are too choppy for the students to return to the mainland. Mrs. O'Hare guides the students through the rain to a neglected old cabin.

"There used to be a mining camp around these parts!" she shouts over the rain. "This guy here's about all that's left. C'mon in, kids!"

Inside is musty, spidery and there's an angry raccoon that needs to be evacuated, but it'll do the trick. With the storm not letting up, it looks as though the seniors will be spending one very miserable night in this cabin with a dinner of granola bars, bananas and oranges. It's a tight fit in there, so everyone get to know your neighbors. Now this is what Mrs. O'Hare calls bonding!

THE HIKE: The earlier part of the day is a nice low impact hike around the island.

THE STORM: The rain hits hard, and everyone follows Mrs. O'Hare, who has an idea!

THE CABIN: There's a small cabin from the late 1800's out here on the island. Everyone crams inside and stays warm with heating charms and snugglepiles.

THE NIGHT: The seniors have to stay overnight. They manage to conjure up basic blankets and pillows, and warming charms are used liberally.

A NOISE: It's about 3:00 AM, when something slams into the side of the cabin, right by Robin Youngblood's snugglepile. WHAT WAS THAT?!?! [Character Y] screams as they see a man outside!! HE'S SCRAPING AROUND THE CABIN, HE'S TRYING TO GET IN, YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE. (After ten minutes of panic and shrieking teenagers, it's revealed to be a curious bear.)

THE MORNING: Everyone returns to Gooseberry, cranky but not much worse for wear.

Who thinks mandatory team-building exercises are a waste of time? Quinn does!

On her way to the docks with [volunteer], she mutters to them about how much more actual work everybody could get done if they didn't waste a whole day hiking. She crosses her arms, stubbornly ends her tirade with "I can make friends just fine without Mandatory Fun Time," and harumphs.

A day hike sounds a lot more fun than what the younger classes were subjected to and after four years of these, Sun-mi is not at all shy about ignoring the cross-house bonding goal and playing favorites.

Which, of course, Mrs. O'Hare intervenes and shoos Sun-mi away when she immediately tries to grab Ravi and Rafael as her boating partners. Instead, she herds [volunteer/s] in Sun-mi's direction.

Once they make it to the island, Sun-mi is back to looking for Ravi and Rafael. Sorry, Mrs. O'Hare!

She decides the hike is a good time to get herself caught up on all the LARP drama and immediately starts asking Rafael about it. (It's for Ravi's sake! He missed two weekends in a row!) [Rafael is probably not the best at summarizing the ~story~, so any other LARPers who want to jump in, please do!!!]

Ravi already had one RIGOROUS HIKING EXPERIENCE this month, so he's feeling very prepared for this one. Sorry, Ravi is totally one of those kids who enjoys monthly bonding activities and tries to use them for their intended purpose, which means he's chatting with anyone other than his usual senior Ribbonfin pals today. (...Although the senior Ribbonfins will get plenty of "how are you" "do you need a break" "do you have enough water" checkups. RAVI IS MULTITASKING OK.)

Robin’s stoked on the hike. Don’t tell anyone. Yeah, okay, he might always be saying he gets enough of this shit at home, and his ideal day might involve more staying inside playing League of Legends and watching Voyager, but he feels a hell of a lot more comfortable in the woods than he does in a classroom. He’s not even put off by the storm clouds on the horizon, because that’ll just make everything more fun. Ugh, you guys, he’s in such a (relatively) disgustingly good mood today. He tries to whistle a jaunty walking tune down to the docks, but Robin can’t whistle for shit, so anyone walking with him catches a lucky break there.

Wes is over hikes for the time being. (http://www.reactiongifs.com/r/btchplz.gif) He's also over storm clouds, but he's been over those since a certain hurricane back home, so. . . However, he keeps his mouth shut and goes with the flow, getting in the first boat he sees without regard for who his partner is, eager to get through this as quickly as possible.

He also takes care to not lag too far behind in the hike pack and sticks close to the middle, but isn't as chatty and bouncy as he usually is in these activities.

Despite her avid disinterest* in monthly bonding activities, Quinn does brighten up once the boats start moving across the water because she's decided that it would be a waste of time to mope around for an entire day.

She probably spends the hike migrating between different groups of people; she's a bit of a social butterfly when she lets herself relax, and she'd spend an hour or two with a couple of people before wandering off to find another group.

* yes, you read that right: she's very interested in being very disinterested.

Mufferaw advised that Rafael not go on the hike. But at the mere insinuation that he couldn't handle it, Rafael objected and has been fighting tooth and nail to be allowed to go.

It paid off, and here he is, DETERMINED TO HAVE FUN. He doesn't even like hikes that much. In retrospect, insisting on going was a rash decision, but he's married to it now. He claims he's very happy to be here. This is going to be so fun. Monthly bonding is very important.

He's in a "good" mood, but there's an extra edge to him today, like he's in a competition with Mufferaw to prove a) he's healthy enough, and b) HE TOTALLY ENJOYS HIKES DON'T TELL HIM WHAT HE DOES OR DOES NOT ENJOY.

NEW PERSONAL PROJECT: STOP BEING WEIRD.

Diego's trying really hard to be "normal" Diego again, which means that whatever mood he was in a couple days ago seems to have ran its course. He's friendly and goofy, and since he genuinely loves hikes, it's not too hard to fake looking forward to the day. He's trying particularly hard to be "normal" around Levi and Cecil. He's going to be testing his ability to not betray his discomfort when they flirt.

Predictably, Diego mostly sticks with his little clique of Azurcrests. He's kind of bad at this monthly bonding thing.

Leo doesn't wanna go hiking because Leo has better things to do. He, surprising I imagine no one, is TRES BAD at observing nature and walking into the woods for literally no apparent reason. He's not openly hostile about it, though, and will make up for it by actually talking to people. It's probably not so much bonding as random talking, but whatever. He totally will get in an unofficial or official race with at least someone at least once and probably have to be pulled back by O'Hare.

Oh and also when the storm hits and they have to stay overnight, you are costing him precious time so expect all the seething, but more on that later.

Chris tried so hard to get detention (read: he didn't try that hard). But hey at least they aren't being put into groups. Chris is not a fan of hiking for no apparent reason. But since he was dumped two days ago and he's been doing nothing but quidditch all week, Chris is unusually reserved and untalkitive the entire hike because he hates you all.

Tabitha appears to be in a fairly low mood. Head down, hiking on and getting on with it. She's definitely not bonding with anyone at this point, until Mrs O'Hare pushes [volunteer/s] towards her.

Even if Trixie appears to die just walking outside, she's totally up for this hike even if she did one pretty recently and that she does this every Christmas break with the Youngbloods. Who doesn't like hikes? Crazy people that's who.

Ras will never turn down an opportunity to bond with his fellow Seniors. This is fantastic, the best really, he slides his sunglasses on and starts off. He didn't even wear real shoes because he didn't want to wear any to begin with but got a bit concerned about his feet. Plus he couldn't get his fifteen pairs of Sperrys too messed up. He needs those. Also who wouldn't go for a hike in skinny jeans and a leather jacket?

Ras also packs extra sunglasses if anyone needs any. Bonding is awesome guys!

Predictably, Levi is making heart-eyes at Cecil every time he glances his way. He's made a mental note to take it easy with Cecil around Chris, but his hormones have a different plan. Levi tries to flit between social groups to get the True Bonding Experience, but always somehow ends up glued back to Cecil's side as a buffer.

Cricket was perfectly happy about monthly-bonding in the morning and teased her less enthusiastic peers about it all day, but when she found out that monthly-bonding meant going on a hike (on a drizzly, overcast day...) she becomes visibly withdrawn. Before heading out, she finds Ulysses and hugs him extra tight, but brushes off any accusations that she is action odd.

Normally, Cricket is very good about modeling stellar behavior and upholding the spirit of monthly-bonding activities, but not today! She hangs near her friends for the majority of the hike and is reluctant to be paired off with people she isn't close with.

Etta loves the great outdoors, and even the looming storm clouds don't dent her enthusiasm. She's actually a little disappointed it's only a low impact hike, but at least that leaves her with plenty of energy to go bounding around from person to person. BECAUSE BONDING. Although she definitely starts off walking with her friends!

Oh my god, no, the storm puts Robin in an even BETTER mood. He’s downright playful with this shit. He’s asking if people want to sing marching songs, and he’ll make fun of anyone trying to shield themselves from the rain because IT’S JUST A LITTLE RAIN, KIDS, Y’ALL AIN’T SAYING YOU’RE AFRAID OF SOME WATER ARE YOU?

Tabitha would definitely be sad if people snuggled without her, but given the mood she's in, she'd be surprised if anyone did. Which makes her more moody, OFC.

Tabitha was definitely awake at this point and yelped loud enough to wake a few people, though she didn't join in with the screams about a guy trying to get in.

Hair frizzy through getting soaked and not being able to dry it properly, Tabitha looks tired and a little dishevelled rather than grumpy this morning. She's slow to get going and is visibly relieved when they get back into the boats.
