Sophomores & Seniors

Ah, bonding. At least you're inside, and in the Magical Rudiments classroom no less. Prospero and Ambrosia are hosting, which means it's another cooking competition. However, this time the secret ingredient is... oh no, it's sophomores.

HOW THIS WORKS

• Each sophomore (or pair of sophomores) will decide on a dish that their assigned senior pair must cook. They can be as reasonable or as outlandish as they like. Since your sophomores aren't depending on their seniors for a win, there's no benefit to being nice.


• Seniors must then attempt to create the dish to the best of their ability.


• If your sophomore is a no-show and doesn't post anything to this IC/OOC telling you what to cook by the end of the day, we'll handwave that they were late, and Ambrosia the house elf will assign you a dish instead. I'm sure she'll be fair.


• You have until Sunday Feb 11th, 11:69 PM MT to post. The winners will be selected based on activity, creativity, humor, and effort. Seniors will be awarded for cooking, and sophomores will be rewarded for ther critiques.

The disappointment is obvious. She wanted to be cooking SO BAD and these seniors who probably never even GO in the kitchen are going to get to cook! This does stir some thoughts of revenge; make them make tamales, or lasagna, slaving over hot stoves for at least two hours. Those were both semi complicated dishes, not entry level and she immediately felt bad for thinking it. Okay, okay. Chilaquiles? No, too easy. Huevos Rancheros? No, mostly assembly. Gnocchi? Also mean. Pozole? No, no, no. She sat, thinking hard for several long minutes.

Finally, she landed on. "Enchiladas." A nice recipe. Not too easy, not terribly difficult, with a good flavor profile and most of the time spent on the dish was it sitting in the oven so they didn't have to work for too long.

Dinah @ Yancey & Sy

Dinah taps her chin, clearly thinking hard about this decision. Had she an ounce of common sense, she might consider giving them a task they could actually accomplish. After all, she's the one who's going to be EATING this dish. But... this is her captain. And this is Paris and London's older brother. So.

"Have you guys ever had dinuguan??" she asks, as if she has had dinuguan more than a precious few times in her life. And mostly when she was actually visiting the Phillipines. She's definitely never cooked it. She actually can't really remember how it tastes. Whatever. "It's like super good but it has to be like CRAZY SPICY." Does the kitchen even have pig intestines? If they don't, is she going to offer them the vegetarian option? Or just yell at them to make it work?

I mean, I think we know the answer to that last question.

Pear @ Addy & Cameron

Addy and Cameron are both... acceptable as far as seniors go. She recognizes Cameron from camp, and Addy's her TA in Potions. They're both nice... without even having to try?? Which is a très irritating trait, but Addy can pet Bluebell, so it's best to stay on her good side and maybe she'll put in a good word for Pear.

The first dish that comes to mind is lutefisk, but they're probably expected to actually eat whatever these seniors manage to put together and she wasn't going to touch lutefisk that had been prepared properly, let alone by these two. Hot dish would be good, but did they even know what went into it?? And it wasn't exactly sophisticated sounding. And if nothing else, she was going to prove herself a woman of sophisticated, international tastes to these two seniors. Not that it matters what they think about her!!

She has no idea what this dish is, but she knows it's très French!!

Archie & Nisha @ Lilika & Phin

Unadaltered delight. There is nothing Nisha does not love about this whole scenario and she looks from her senior victims to Archie with a smile that speaks volumes. Just giving them a hard time is simple enough, but Archie used to fancy Lilika. So maybe they could turn this into a real test.

She bumps her shoulder playfully against Archie's before pulling him into a huddle. "You got any ideas?" She asks, grin bright and voice dropping to a low whisper she was hitherto believed to be incapable of. "What kinda science are we doing here? Just food science? Or are we testing their mental endurance?"

Tuesday @ Reece and Phoebe

Tuesday thinks this is Really fun, but is canny enough to remember she gets a free meal out of it. She hasn’t had a ton of fancy food in her life and mostly eats basic things that her mother can cook for an entire week’s worth of children. So her thoughts go immediately to the Muggle restaurant her father brought her to one time when he was trying to be a cool dad. She had been stuck with the kids’ menu at the time, but she remembers her father’s order well. “Steak Gorgonzola Alfredo.” She determines proudly, rolling each r which is very necessary. “Like from the Olive Garden. With a side of unlimited breadsticks.”

Griffin @ Oz & Chloe

Everybody else is picking stuff so quickly and Griffin just kind of wants to go back to his cabin and nap. Thinking about this is stressing him out. What if he picks something dumb and Oscar and Chloe laugh at him?? What if he picks something too hard and they can't do it and they hate him?? What if he picks something too easy and everyone else thinks he's dumb??

Fuck fuck fuck. He's taking way too long to decide. What even is food??

Griffin's expression remains serene as he slowly melts down internally. He tears his gaze away from his seniors and says the name of the first thing he sees: "Pineapple."

Good start. Now onto the next thing. "Red cabbage."

It needs a protein, Griffin. Think. "Turkey."

Okay, those are all things, but what do you do with them? "Stew."

He breathes. "Pineapple cabbage turkey stew."

Hero @ Gwen & Casey

Interesting pair. Hero mostly knows Gwen and Casey by reputation. As the Quidditch announcer, he's had the occasion to publicly critique their performance on the pitch. But really, he's only ever been fair in his assessments. He's treated them no differently than he treats any other player or cheerleader. They're nearly adults, and practically local heroes in everyone's eyes, as a Seeker and a cheer captain. Their egos should be able to handle anything a mere sophomore can dish out.

"Obviously, I'd rather that you don't give everyone food poisoning," Hero begins as he pages through a random recipe book he'd grabbed from classroom shelves. He made a point of picking the heaviest tome, with the least friendly illustrations, for the sake of dramatic effect. "But as a prefect, I have a responsibility to my class. There are expectations for a fair competition. I can't simply have you make scrambled eggs and shoo you on your merry way, now can I?"

Panda & Tally @ Kenzie & Kurt

Together, they have the pestering powering of TWO baby sisters! Tally is very excited that she's been paired up with her sister and her cousin and wants to make their lives hard. But fun.

"What's hard to cook?" Tally asks Pandora. She doesn't know anything about cooking, so she's probably not the best person for this job.

Juniper and Quentin @ Riley and Ursula

Quentin is aware that Ursula fucks with making dances happen and that Riley fucks with Patterson for some reason. That’s about all he knows of them. He doesn’t really feel any type of way about them and isn’t trying to be spiteful. So he pulls Juniper back, into a huddle. “K I want a cake,” is how he begins this meeting. “You want a cake or nah? And when we critique, I wanna get in touch with my inner Gordon Ramsey so I need to practice my British accent. And you should too.”

London @ Iliya & Avery

London is grinning. Objectively, it's sweet and excited, but somehow... dangerous. She doesn't know these two well, so she isn't going to give them something too easy. She considers lutefisk, but she also knows she's going to need to eat whatever she assigns them, and bleh! She also already knows Paris is going to try to assign her pair something French and pretentious. Instead, London decides that she'd like to assign them something good and something they might actually be familiar with. Everyone has been to a Mexican restaurant, right? "Okay, okay, I got it. What about chiles rellenos? Just like grandma makes! Muy bien!"

Marie's not sure how she ended up with two fox cops for her seniors, but she's been ready to go to the big house since she was like 13, so whatever. This activity is happening, and she's very excited to see what Georgie and Nisha's Brother's Bird can cook her.

"You better make me something good," she says. She's hungry.

Grace @ Lachlan and Ferdie

Grace doesn't see a reason to be terribly cruel. Plus, if they make something good that means she gets to indulge and eat it all herself, right? She flips through a recipe book anyway, making faces at how boringly complicated all of the dishes sound until she happens upon the most basic of basic recipes ever: Pancakes.

"Alright, boys," she says with a satisfied grin across her face. "I want pancakes. BLUEBERRY pancakes!"

Balthazar & Carolina @ Sofia & Sybilla

Balthazar is amused and it shows in the cat-with-a-canary grin he gives the two seniors. He dips his hands into his back pockets and glances from Carolina, to Sofia, to Sybilla, and back again. After all, they're the ones calling the shots, aren't they?

"What do you think? I was thinking poulet vallée d’auge. There's flambé."

Tobias & Karen @ Jaime & Antonia

There was a definite sense of relief that she was advising of the cooking and not actually doing it herself. Perhaps she should look into that? Though now was not the time to dwell on her lack of cooking skill and bask in the fact she was getting a senior to make her food. Karen looked at Tobias, "So, what are you thinking? What do you want to see them make?" She had some ideas but didn't want to steamroll.

Rupert @ Clem & Rosy

Rupert doesn't mind this bonding so much. Rosy he respects. Clem is... kind of crazy? But, he's in charge, which, as far as he's concerned, is probably the way bonding should always be carried out. He knows what he's doing when it comes to bossing people around! Even if, initially, he's not sure what he dish he should boss them into. Though it takes him a moment to come up with something, once he does he plays it off as though he's always been considering it. It's good to look decisive.

"Can either of you manage any cooking? I was thinking Cornish game hens with some sort of side, but I'm magnanimous and don't want to pick anything too out of your comfort zones."

"Alright," Cameron says, turning to Addy. "We've got this, right? I mean, cooking's like potions, so you're probably a genius!" He grabs a spatula. He's not really sure if he needs it, but it gives him something to gesture with. "So, do you know what ratatouille is? I've seen the movie about the mouse."

Rosy & Clem

Rosy looks at the oven before them. She looks at the pots and pans and cooking utensils spread out in front of them so expectantly, as if someone competent was just waiting to come along and use them to their fullest potential.

These cooking utensils did not expects these two fuckos.

"I'm just throwing some tomato in there," Rosy says, as if she's ever cooked a goddamn thing in her life. House-elves have cooked almost every meal she's ever eaten in her seventeen years of life. "Everything's got tomato, right?" Enough confidence and you can win anything, right??

Sy & Yancey

After scribbling a quick ward, Yancey snaps his journal shut and turns to Sy. In front of them, most of the ingredients for their dish are laid out. And, admittedly, for once, Yancey is not looking forward to getting his hands dirty and becoming a mess.

"Okay," he says, quiet enough to not be heard outside of their space. "In the event that things go all upside down. I have a metaphorical cyanide pill on the way. Some of that mint stage blood. Because, y'know, if you're gonna go down in flames, you may as well take the whole sophomore class with you, eh?" He delivers this line with an unsettlingly earnest smile.

Chloe & Oz

"What's even the difference between like... a soup and a stew?" she asks. She rubs her face with both hands, looking defeated already. "If it was just turkey and cabbage, we could probably throw some noodles in and just make like chicken noodle soup but with turnkey instead, but pineapple? And... stew?" This is not a dish she has helped prepare during big fish dinners, and it's not Kraft Macaroni either, so it's looking rather hopeless.

Riley & Ursula

"I just wanna decorate something," Riley says, sprinkling sugar in her mouth. She can't even remember what they're making. It was literally just told to them, but she was bored and not paying attention. "Can we just give them like three layers of frosting?" God knows Riley would eat that.

Webster and Ennis

mealducken, noun -- A dish where a dessert food is inside a typical entree, which in turn is inside an appetizer. The word is modeled after 'turducken' (a boned chicken inside a boned duck inside a boned turkey).

Ex. How much for that mealducken? It's not for sale. Fair

Webster shuts the book. He doesn't care if something has a definition printed on paper, he's convinced this isn't a real thing. Of course, arguing that will just waste time. He looks over at Ennis. "I pretty good at making chocolate lava cake and paella." He pauses. "Paella doesn't seem like a good fit for the mealducken."
