HOUSE POINTS: February

House Points: February

Over the course of the school year, the four houses compete for the House Cup, which is awarded to the house which wins the most house points by the end of June. After so many years of the House Cup almost exclusively bouncing between Ebonhide and Ribbonfin, Mr. Merrill introduced the House Mug (a coffee mug with "#1 House" written on it in Sharpie) for the house which lost the most points that year, just so Azurcrest and Coppertale could win something for once.

Things you might gain points for: answering questions correctly in class, doing exceptionally well on a test or assignment, assisting a teacher, helping another student, picking up trash on the trails, helping tidy after clubs, singing a song with Mr. Merrill, etc.

Things you might lose points for: breaking rules, such as wearing your uniform improperly during class hours, swearing in class, skipping class, being out after curfew, entering forbidden areas, getting into fights/duels, harassing another student, etc.

HOW THIS WORKS

  • At the end of the month, we'll put up a House Points post where every character can get an RNG score that determines their contributions to their house's point standing for the month. Point standings will carry over to the next month, so hopefully by June, we can see who's the best and worst house!

  • Every character posts to their house heading to get an RNG roll between 1–25. You determine if this number should be added or subtracted from the current house total.

  • The choice of adding or subtracting your score should reflect what's IC for your character. For instance, if your character is generally well-behaved, they should gain points; but if they're a troublemaker, they should lose points.
    • But we're not going to nitpick, so if you feel your rascal has been pretty good this month, you can opt to gain points instead. Whatever!

    • If your character is more neutral when it comes to behavior, so just go with where you feel they're leaning this month.

  • Rolls are abstract, i.e. if you roll a +5, it doesn't mean that you only gained 5 points for the entire month. Think of it as a sliding scale in which +25 is very good behavior for the month, and -25 is very bad behavior. Your roll should be considered a net value, i.e. if your character has both gained and lost points and you roll a +10, you can think of it as them gaining slightly more points than they've lost this month.

  • Canonically, a house cannot go into negative points. If a house's point standing is in the red, they will begin the next month at zero.

  • In addition to rolls, we will be counting: point gains/losses on the plot calendar, and point gains/losses as granted by NPCs. For the sake of our sanity, we're not counting point gains/losses from prefects, but you should definitely consider those in your IC reasoning of why your character is gaining/losing points this month.

  • Note for prefects: Although prefects are unable to give points to or remove points from each other, they are still able to gain/lose house points from a staff member, so just complete your forms with that in mind.

To be counted, please post under your house heading with the following form:

House point contributions for February will stop being rolled on Tue, Mar 6 at 11:59 PM MT!

CURRENT TOTALS
EBONHIDE RIBBONFIN AZURCREST COPPERTALE
756 714 646 375

» Ebonhide: Ms. Rhee is starting to feel the heat now, and she sees how competitive Azurcrest is trying to be. And one more win by Ribbonfin... But it's alright. She has faith in her bears. Especially the ones who've been literally fighting off bears. Hm. Should she award points?

» Ribbonfin: Mr. Hightower has praised his fish plenty for how they've done in classes and at Quidditch and the recent fashion show. Reportedly, Ms. Vector is jealous. Ha, ha, he's not mentioning that last part. That would be unsporting. Ribbonfins are never bad winners.

» Azurcrest: Mr. Merrill remains in high spirits. They keep going up! Then down again. Then up! Then... down. But really, way more up than down. This is their year, Reece. First ever year that the jays win the House Cup!!!! He's going to tell his kids.

» Coppertale: Ms. Vector was fully willing to get into petty house rivalries with her coworkers, but lately she's had a lot more on her mind as deputy headmistress. Coppertale, still just barely treading water? That's... fine. Everything is fine. Good job not being on fire, children.
