AMNESIA BUG

AMNESIA BUG
It's a somewhat dreary morning, with a light, misty rain all across campus. It's business as usual, though, except... some students are acting particularly forgetful today.
» symptoms set in: When the infected wake up, they feel a little off. Forgetful. Small details escape them. Their short and long term memories are spotty. By 11:30 AM it's clear it's yet another plague, and everyone is going to enjoy another classic Gooseberry Quarantine.
» the lodge: quarantine: It's not long before all the infected students are gathered up by staff, and everyone's in quarantine by 12 PM. Because the infection is really more of a mild magical curse, it's easy to tell who's got it and who doesn't with a quick detection spell.
» OOC - What's going on with your character: If you want, briefly describe OOC the state your character's in and what they forgot.
» OOC - Questions, comments, concerns!
HOW THIS WORKS
- Full symptoms will have set in by 11:30 AM. You can decide exactly when and how quickly your character is hit with the amnesia bug, i.e. from the time they wake up, or later in the morning.
- Your characters have two brief windows in which to do amnesia things around campus: 7 AM-12 PM, before Mufferaw is certain what's happening, and 5:00-5:45 PM when there's a brief breakout.
- Teachers are on high alert to make sure that none of the affected students are hurt or otherwise taken advantage of. They'll break up any canoodling that's not between people they know are a couple, and there will be no opportunities to have sex. Please just use this as your blanket OOC safety net: Staff will save your character from doing anything you don't want them to do.
- Characters will be allowed to keep their journals while in quarantine.
- They'll all be given a cure before bed.
- Everyone affected is spending the night in the lodge.
- In the morning, they'll wake up with all of their memories intact, including memories of what they did Saturday.
- Memory loss is entirely defined by you. You do what works best for your character. It does not need to be consistent across characters.
- However, the bug does not create new memories. Your character will not think they're a different person unless some outside influence successfully convinces them. And they'd need to be, like, ridiculously gullible.
- Similarly, it does not take away skills, although your character may forget they have them. For instance, they might forget they can speak another language, but they still have the ability. No one will forget how to walk, talk, etc.
- If you have any questions or are uncertain about something you want to do,
just ask the mods!

- » the lodge: the infirmary: This is where Mufferaw would prefer you all be so he can keep an eye on you, but he can't entertain dozens of energetic teenagers in here.
- » the lodge: the atrium: A portion of the atrium has been cordoned off, and the amnesiacs can access the Wii, the TV and the ping-pong table. Their friends can come visit them, but there's always a teacher on guard to make sure no one picks on the forgetful kids.
- If your character escapes: You have about 45 minutes of freedom before the teachers track everyone down again. Because no one's in their right mind, they won't give detention, but oh my god you're all so difficult.
- For our sanity and everyone's comfort, if you plan on having anything uniquely bad happen to your character, please privately run it by the mods first. And let's just say everyone's too busy scattering and running to get up to any accidental amnesia cheating, hm?

OOC - WHAT'S GOING ON WITH YOUR CHARACTER
Leo and Ferdinand; the thesis. I'm sorry.
So I needed to struggle through this real quick before I Actually Wrote Anything because memory is a complex and dangerous thing, ok. I'm sorry, it's long, I write essays.
I am imagining Leo's memory loss as kind of a faulty wipe like he was an active in Dollhouse? (Yes, my nerd is showing and no I DON'T CARE.) He will have 0 memories of who he is, why he is the way he is, and will not be able to control such things as his accent, his presentation as a Very Serious Person, his blind ambition will be less focused and more just...ambition. He WILL, however, still retain imprinted relationships (will still love Rafael, will still adore his team, will still remember who his friends are, will probably actually be more vocal re: admiration and opinions of other people.) His core personality will not change and will actually be more on display, because he can't mute it or sublimate it anymore. So long story short, today Leo is ambitious without a cause, not hidden about being willing to break rules to get what he wants, may tell you how he feels about you, finally. There just won't be any reasons for it. YAY!
And then Ferdie I am doing this to break into his head and break down some of the many walls (he has too many walls to even PLAY sometimes, so that was dumb of me,) that he has put up. So I will be more specific carving into his headbrain. He will remember he's from Chicago. He will not remember his mother is Irene Ayers, MACUSA SPY. He will remember he is a prefect, but pretty much that's a good thing in his life, so that's ok. He will not remember the reason he's been so hesitant to talk to his classmates in the past (reason: he was insanely sheltered! He didn't really know how!) He will remember that he likes talking to people, that he's not bad at it, and I am going to Make a Real Effort to get him out there and do so this time. So if you want a more outgoing Ferdie in your direction please let me knooow.

Ulysses
ulysses thinks a lot about social rules and most of his behavior gets filtered through his weird "does this make me look dumb/uncool/like a baby" algorithm, which is why he's so prone to
scribble scribble scribbles. but not today! today, he forgets a solid handful of both his neuroses and his manners. ... sorry in advance. ETA: also SORRY LEO b/c he definitely forgot he had quidditch practice. guess who's sleepin' in, holla.Re: Ulysses

Rafael, Diego, Calvin
Diego is going to forget everything about his love life. He has no idea who he has dated, hooked up with, had a crush on, etc. Diego will think he's fine until someone points it out to him.
Calvin is regressing back to the beginning of the year where EVERYTHING IS VERY UPSETTING and he trusts basically no one. He'll be constantly on the defensive, and think he has no friends outside of the soph Azurbabes.

Avery & Oscar
Oscar will be kind of the opposite. He remembers his whole life except he doesn't remember any of the people in it. Like everyone's faces and names are gone from his memories and cannot remember a single social/emotional tie he has to anyone at the school. Which is going to make him a very very sad Oscar for the day.

Worst Casey Scenario
TL;DR: This is the worst case(y) scenario. He's trying to assert his dominance as the big wolf on campus and his game plan involves pushing buttons, belittling people that he perceives as a threat, and trying to start fights. It's a given that the staff will stop fights in their tracks so he won't be able to end them, but by golly is he ever going to start them.
P.S. He is not woke af in this state and if he negs anyone I am so, so, so sorry.
I found out when I started writing Casey in the first place that I'm just not good with playing an actual bully so... this will be an experiment.

Chris and Solomon
What this means is that on the surface he gets to go back to being happy and unstressed. He will try to hook up with multiple people throughout the day, including his usual hook up, Levi, Bc in his mind - they've just returned from summer vacation. But internally, it also means he's losing a lot of character development and self awareness. He hasn't made a ton of new friends so he's aware of who all his friends are, he's just unaware of how the relationships between him and his friends have changed in the last 9+ months. And since in September he was a lot more scowly and crass and a lot less open, he gets to go back to that too.
Solomon is not losing that much time. He's losing about four months. But since his mind is positive it's November, he's also going to notice immediately that something's wrong based purely on the weather. Not a lot will change for Solomon. He just gets to be happy and chatty and oblivious to real world problems for a minute. He gets to be a lot less careful about how he talks and to who he talks. But since he's lost four months, he's also rewinding to being a lot less confident. He's more eager to please and more concerned about screwing up. So he definitely rushed to quidditch practice because he definitely cares.

Dimi & Nia
Nia remembers everything up to this morning and has lost the ability to form new memories. She also feels like she's misplaced something and is very concerned about what it is she's lost. By 11:30, she's forgetting names and faces, too, and will need to be reminded of who people are frequently.
Levi & Ennis
Since he's the new kid, he's trying hard to make friends at his new school so he's a lot friendlier and less likely to be antagonistic toward strangers because he's not as comfortable with his classmates yet. He's charming and overly flirtatious, but in a non-committal way, and isn't as eager to just hop in the sack with someone and sloot about because he lacks the experience.
Ennis is losing most of his memories, but has a vague recollection of his relationships and the feelings he has toward people though he has no memory of the history behind those relationships to back it up. He's gonna be suuuuuuuuper chill, probably, unless someone does something to upset him/mess with him. (But let him have this. :( Let this child know peace.)
A lot of his anxieties come from the death of his father triggering anxiety and depression in his mother, who, in turn, projected a lot of her worries onto Ennis. AND ALSO they really fucked him over by not really giving him many opportunities to socialize with kids his age nor giving him a proper, well-rounded education before Ilvermorny. So he was super reliant on teachers and extra help sessions and peer tutoring and he became really apologetic for being a burden on others, doubtful of his own intelligence and ability, and self-conscious about how others perceived him.
BUT!!! Now he doesn't remember any of that, yet he's retained the skills he's learned over the years from that hard work and those extra study sessions and he has the memories left to know how to use them. So he can read and write and do math and cast magic, but he doesn't know where he is and he only has a vague idea of who he is although he can tell something is definitely off about his situation. But he's not stressed about it. He's sort of taken back to how he was as a carefree child with zero worries or responsibilities: kind, peaceable, incredibly curious of the world around him and eager to explore. He's probably just going to wander around campus just looking at things and eventually fuck off into the woods because remnants of his memories make him strangely drawn to them. [Volunteer] (a student's preferred for the relationship development potential once he gets his memories back and is suuuper grateful they looked after him, but I'll say an NPC teacher found him if nobody wants it?) can find him playing around and looking under rocks and trying to climb trees and lead him back toward the lodge in time for the quarantine. He won't be too far into the woods or hard to find (he doesn't know where the Grotto is) and he's not even trying to hide, so he could totally be visible from one of the trails if that makes it easier.

WHAT'S GOING ON WITH YOUR CRICKET & JESSE
Jesse is reverting back to the end of his 8th grade year at Allegheny Prep, so this means:

RILEY & ROSY
ROSY is basically empty and operating purely on instinct today. She don't know who any of you fuckers are. But she's pretending she knows exactly what's going on and is not going to admit she has no memory of anything at all.
I don't really know any details other than that whoops
Sebastien
He's very much not used to being without his sister around to tell him what to do all of the time. He's also not used to being called Bash. Will possibly do the kid during first day of school attendance 'Huh? Oh! Me. Right - that's totally me. And my name. You are saying. To me. Yes. I knew that.' thing when referred to by it. He will laugh in your face if told he's a Prefect.
Sy & Iliya
Sy has forgotten everything that makes him feel competitive. This is pretty wide-ranging, but so far I've decided he's forgotten Quidditch, being captain and having a team, and his family, including Rosy. He remembers his name and he remembers other people, but his memory of you may be significantly impaired if you're a Quidditch player. (e.g. He remembers Reid's name and that he's a roommate and maybe also a friend, but he doesn't remember that they're teammates or even that Sy ever considered him a rival.) Sy's memory of his own twin is just... unbelievably borked. I'M FIGURING IT OUT AS I GO
Clem & Ivy
Ivy has selectively forgotten about Laurel's existence, because I'm evil. Everything else is more-or-less intact, although if she knows you primarily because you're Laurel's friend her memory might be a little foggy. She's also a little bit more assertive and a tiny bit meaner.
Marilyn, Vee, Ryan, and Ana
Vee has forgotten all of the recent drama with Jeremy. She thinks everything is fine and she feels FANTASTIC because she's not sad and upset and depressed about it.
Ryan has forgotten Chris. Literally. He has no recollection of meet Chris, becoming his bro, being adopted by mom, etc. Which means he's a little more dry and mean since he didn't have Chris as constant support (and he didn't need to balance his best friend out, lbr) He also didn't have anyone to really turn to or anywhere to escape his shitty dad at, so. He's a little more #giveszerofucks
Ana has forgotten Quidditch. Entirely. And she's terrified of it when someone shows her LOL
Cameron and Fern
Fern remembers most things about GB, she just... doesn't remember very much about life outside of GB. Where does she live? Does she have siblings? What are her non-school hobbies? She doesn't remember that she's angry and bitter, or that she doesn't want to be at this school, and once she gets taken to the infirmary, she's going to just hang out with Papa Plaid and try to be his helpful lil buddy.
