AMNESIA BUG

It's a somewhat dreary morning, with a light, misty rain all across campus. It's business as usual, though, except... some students are acting particularly forgetful today.

HOW THIS WORKS

• Full symptoms will have set in by 11:30 AM. You can decide exactly when and how quickly your character is hit with the amnesia bug, i.e. from the time they wake up, or later in the morning.


• Your characters have two brief windows in which to do amnesia things around campus: 7 AM-12 PM, before Mufferaw is certain what's happening, and 5:00-5:45 PM when there's a brief breakout.


• Teachers are on high alert to make sure that none of the affected students are hurt or otherwise taken advantage of. They'll break up any canoodling that's not between people they know are a couple, and there will be no opportunities to have sex. Please just use this as your blanket OOC safety net: Staff will save your character from doing anything you don't want them to do.


• Characters will be allowed to keep their journals while in quarantine.


• They'll all be given a cure before bed.


• Everyone affected is spending the night in the lodge.


• In the morning, they'll wake up with all of their memories intact, including memories of what they did Saturday.


• Memory loss is entirely defined by you. You do what works best for your character. It does not need to be consistent across characters.


• However, the bug does not create new memories. Your character will not think they're a different person unless some outside influence successfully convinces them. And they'd need to be, like, ridiculously gullible.


• Similarly, it does not take away skills, although your character may forget they have them. For instance, they might forget they can speak another language, but they still have the ability. No one will forget how to walk, talk, etc.

  just ask the mods!

» symptoms set in: When the infected wake up, they feel a little off. Forgetful. Small details escape them. Their short and long term memories are spotty. By 11:30 AM it's clear it's yet another plague, and everyone is going to enjoy another classic Gooseberry Quarantine.

» the lodge: quarantine: It's not long before all the infected students are gathered up by staff, and everyone's in quarantine by 12 PM. Because the infection is really more of a mild magical curse, it's easy to tell who's got it and who doesn't with a quick detection spell.

• » the lodge: the infirmary: This is where Mufferaw would prefer you all be so he can keep an eye on you, but he can't entertain dozens of energetic teenagers in here.


• » the lodge: the atrium: A portion of the atrium has been cordoned off, and the amnesiacs can access the Wii, the TV and the ping-pong table. Their friends can come visit them, but there's always a teacher on guard to make sure no one picks on the forgetful kids.

» breakout: After several hours locked in the lodge, Rafael "Definitely Not a Prefect" Ramirez gets impatient enough to stage a breakout. He waits until Healer Mufferaw takes a break and is replaced by Ms. Whittle, and then sends a freshmen to go ask her what Star Trek is. After that, he leads a number of interested students to the sole balcony they have access to, and reveals there's a rarely used fire escape that leads down to the shore.

• If your character escapes: You have about 45 minutes of freedom before the teachers track everyone down again. Because no one's in their right mind, they won't give detention, but oh my god you're all so difficult.


• For our sanity and everyone's comfort, if you plan on having anything uniquely bad happen to your character, please privately run it by the mods first. And let's just say everyone's too busy scattering and running to get up to any accidental amnesia cheating, hm?

» the next morning: remembering: Everyone wakes up Sunday morning feeling a little bleary. All of their memories are back, as well as the memories of how they behaved yesterday.

Calvin & Cole

Cole sleeps in late this morning, not because he and Calvin had attended the party at the Grotto (they'd come back to the cabin at a very reasonable hour) but because he'd stayed up half the night working on a painting with the brushes his boyfriend had given him for his birthday. The result is a chaotic swirl of colors and textures because of the unpredictable magical properties of the brushes, but it definitely gives the impression of an owl (as intended!) and has a strange beauty that he's very drawn to and very proud of. When he finally does get up, he pulls on a hoodie and some jeans before emerging from his bunk. He should probably shower before going out to breakfast (or lunch?) because the lingering smell of forest and alcohol and party is still clinging to him, but he wants to check with Calvin first.

He smiles faintly to himself when he sees that the other boy is still here and looking at something outside one of the cabin's front windows. He doesn't hesitate, but walks up behind him silently and slips his arms around his waist, hugging him from behind and leaning into him and resting his chin on the boy's shoulder. "Hi Calvin," he says warmly and a little blearily. He's still tired.

Coppertale Quidditch Practice

Reid is scowling under the hood of his jacket as he and Sy arrive at practice. Normally it's Sy who has to kick Reid into gear and drag him out here, but not today. It was fifteen minutes before they had to be on the field when Reid finally asked "Don't we have practice?" like he didn't know all along and was hoping Sy forgot. But then he felt like an asshole. Sy would be pissed if anyone made fun of him for being late.

Reid unceremoniously dumps the gear he had to remind Sy they needed. "What the fuck, dude."

Levi & Cecil

Cecil doesn't know why, but he wakes up feeling....very relaxed and very calm. After climbing out of bed, showering, and changing, he decides to walk down to the garden and take care of his beehive and takes no notice of the shiny blue badge sitting beside the clock on his nightstand. If he had seen it, he would've wondered what it was doing there, but it never even occurs to him to look. He whistles quietly for most of his walk, taking in the familiar sights of the campus and thinking about what he'll do today. He'll visit the bees and collect some fresh honey and then take most of it to the House Elves so it can be delivered to the Potions classes like usual. But...he thinks he'll also take a little for himself so he can go to the Magical Rudiments classroom and make some honey ginger baklava. He should be able to do all that before Levi's even up and then he can surprise him. He likes baklava.

He barely sees anyone in the time it takes him to accomplish all this (many people abandon their early riser habits on the weekend and especially after a Grotto party, but not Cecil Honeychurch!), but he doesn't mind. Especially when, after he leaves the Lodge at around 10 AM, he spots Levi practicing his flying above Jay Trail, performing nimble loops and daring dives in the almost-warm spring air. He watches him during the entire walk back and, once he's there, takes a seat in the grass outside of the campground so he can continue watching. He puts the small box of baklava he's carrying in his lap and continues to look on with awe and appreciation, even clapping and whistling and waving at his boyfriend from time to time. He really is incredible. In so many ways. It occurs to him that Levi really isn't supposed to be flying here, but he's having so much fun and if the prefects don't notice, well...he won't say anything to them. He hasn't seen Quinn or Jesse anywhere, so it'll probably be fine.

A good rule of thumb for this: even Casey can't be convinced he's a different person... and that's saying something.

HELLO OKAY.
So I needed to struggle through this real quick before I Actually Wrote Anything because memory is a complex and dangerous thing, ok. I'm sorry, it's long, I write essays.

I am imagining Leo's memory loss as kind of a faulty wipe like he was an active in Dollhouse? (Yes, my nerd is showing and no I DON'T CARE.) He will have 0 memories of who he is, why he is the way he is, and will not be able to control such things as his accent, his presentation as a Very Serious Person, his blind ambition will be less focused and more just...ambition. He WILL, however, still retain imprinted relationships (will still love Rafael, will still adore his team, will still remember who his friends are, will probably actually be more vocal re: admiration and opinions of other people.) His core personality will not change and will actually be more on display, because he can't mute it or sublimate it anymore. So long story short, today Leo is ambitious without a cause, not hidden about being willing to break rules to get what he wants, may tell you how he feels about you, finally. There just won't be any reasons for it. YAY!

And then Ferdie I am doing this to break into his head and break down some of the many walls (he has too many walls to even PLAY sometimes, so that was dumb of me,) that he has put up. So I will be more specific carving into his headbrain. He will remember he's from Chicago. He will not remember his mother is Irene Ayers, MACUSA SPY. He will remember he is a prefect, but pretty much that's a good thing in his life, so that's ok. He will not remember the reason he's been so hesitant to talk to his classmates in the past (reason: he was insanely sheltered! He didn't really know how!) He will remember that he likes talking to people, that he's not bad at it, and I am going to Make a Real Effort to get him out there and do so this time. So if you want a more outgoing Ferdie in your direction please let me knooow.

BREAKFAST: Ravi & Diego

More than ever, Ravi welcomes Saturdays. He enjoys the routine of his classes and clubs, but there's something to be said for being able to laze around for a few hours in the morning, with nothing to worry about except which of his new books he'll delve into. The closer they get to graduation, the more he appreciates an opportunity to relax.

(His acceptance letters sit in a vintage teak box on his desk, all neatly folded and stacked. He knows he needs to make a decision soon, but for this morning, Ravi's forcing himself not to think about it.)

But part of Ravi's routine is the same no matter what day it is—his favourite part of the morning, if he's honest. Ravi grabs his tray of food and heads for their usual spot, where Diego is already sitting and poring over a notebook. "Good morning, Diego," Ravi says, setting his breakfast tray down as he takes a seat beside him. "You're not hungover, are you?"

Calvin & Cole

Calvin practically jumps out of his skin when someone suddenly grabs him from behind. The gentleness doesn't even occur to him, doesn't even matter. He nearly falls in his haste to get away from... Moss? He doesn't understand Moss at all, but this is a new level of inexplicable. Even free from the sudden embrace, Calvin can feel where his arms were around him, his chin on his shoulder.

Calvin's fingers fumble as he pulls his cardigan closer around his chest, defensive and alarmed. "What are you doing?"

Junior Ebonboys

Ulysses' body only seems to have two settings: "4am insomnia" or "Well, maybe he'll be up for lunch." Today, it seems to have chosen the latter. It must be about 10am when he finally opens his eyes — birds are chirping outside and a stream of dusty sunlight is pouring in from the window — but if there's some reason to be out of bed, it's not coming to him now. He rolls over and stretches lazily, like a napping cat, and closes his eyes again, ready to drift back off to sleep.

And then he freezes. He's in his bed, he knows. It's morning, he knows. This is normal, he knows — except... is it? Everything feels fine, but as the sleep-fog clears from his brain, Ulysses realises something odd. Something very odd. He has no idea where he is.

Huh. Maybe... huh. Cautiously, he swings his legs over the side of his bed and, detecting nothing particularly amiss, hops to the ground, bypassing the ladder entirely to land with a practiced thump. He doesn't see anyone else at first glance, not that he's looking particularly hard, but if this is his bedroom at home, well, let's just say it would have been an odd decorating choice. It's pretty clear he's in a dormitory of some kind. There seem to be several lofts like his: five, actually, each cordoned off for a little privacy.

Curiosity flaring, he pads over to one of the other bunks and throws open the curtain.
