BEST FRIENDS POTION

A mimic disguised as Archimedes Rose drugs the water at breakfast with the latest version of his altered Amortentia. Luckily, the current batch is relatively harmless. However, it's not without any effect.

HOW THIS WORKS

• If your student drinks the water, then they'll be convinced that the next person they see is their best friend. Why did they only notice just now how amaaazing this person is? They've never felt closer to anyone else.


• Archie had been calling this latest failed attempt Philidosi.


• The effects will last all day, and since this isn't necessarily dangerous, there won't be a quarantine. They will be keeping an eye on everyone, though. Just in case.


• Archie will be accused of the drugging, but Ariadne Flint is able to provide an airtight alibi that saves him from punishment. It's concluded that a mimic was behind the incident.


• All matches will be assumed to be reciprocated unless you specifically arrange something else. (For instance, if you wanted to play Stewart as thinking Alice is his best friend while Alice definitely disagrees because she was not drugged, you'll have to plan that on your own and inform the mods when you sign up.)


• Since this is relatively harmless, staff will not impose a quarantine. They'll be keeping their eyes on students, however.


• What Your Character Will Experience:
  • The only warning is that seconds before the incident occurs, affected characters will notice that the water tastes a bit odd, but in a pleasant way. The first person they make eye contact with in that state will suddenly appear to be the more incredible, interesting, amazing person they've ever seen. Their new best friend. Why didn't they ever appreciate how great they were before now???
  
  
  • At the end of the day, the affected characters will snap back to reality. They will no longer feel anything out of the ordinary.
• Dr. Perry will be available to counsel any students shaken up by the day's events.


• If you want to plan any last minute besties, you can. Just let the mods know and we'll sneak them on the list.

Casper & Lilika

Casper hadn't expected to end up having breakfast with Lilika instead of his roommates and he certainly hadn't expected to invite the girl back to Ebonhide but these details are the farthest thing from his mind as he gets Nell out of the terrarium on his desk. He'd wanted to spend more time with the Azurcrest. So he'd asked. It had been an easy choice. A faint smile touches the edges of his lips as he asks, tone dry but still warm like he's talking to one of his roommates, "Anything you want me to tell her? Or would you prefer to handle introductions yourself?"

He turns to hand the small hognose snake over. This is what they came all this way for, after all.

"Tell her I think she's the most beautiful thing in the whole wide world," Lilika coos, putting out both of her hands to allow Nell to pass freely from Casper's into her own. As desperate as she is to hold Nell, she waits patiently for the snake to feel comfortable enough to travel into the palms of a stranger. Well, a sort of stranger? She is Casper's best friend, after all. He's probably told Nell all about her, but just in case, she bends at the knees to bring her face more level with Casper's hands and introduces herself, "Hi, Nell. I'm Lilika."

While Casper makes a point of looking exasperated at this request, whatever he does hiss to Nell in quiet, rasping Parseltongue seems to get the point across. Nell looks at Lilika and flicks her tongue a couple of times before slithering into the Azurcrest's waiting hands. She seems calm as she slowly weaves her thin body between the girl's fingers and around her wrist. For a snake, it's a very warm hello.

"Vain," Casper puts in wryly, shaking his head and lowering his hands only once the reptile has completely settled.

Awestruck, Lilika keeps her eyes on Nell’s as Casper softly hisses. Regardless of what the exact translation turned out to be, there is clear recognition in the little snake’s demeanor. “Wow,” Lilika breathes. Her wide mouth breaks into a grin that lights up her whole face as Nell slithers between her fingers and settles into her palm. “Your dad is incredible,” she raises the snake to her cheek. “Oh, you too!”

Exactly when or how Lilika found out that Casper could speak Parseltongue escapes her, but she vaguely recalls that his talents had once inspired jealousy and annoyance. Now, she just feels proud. How lucky she is to have such an amazing friend with such a phenomenally rare skill!

“That is so cool,” she gushes, “When did you first realize you could do that?”

Seeing Lilika's face light up like that makes it difficult for Casper not to smile too...so he does. But subtly and with his gaze averted. He leans against the desk and pushes back his hair before turning his dark eyes back to the girls. They seem to be hitting it off. It seems strange to him now that this is the first time he's introduced them or that his best friend has been in his cabin but his mind doesn't seem willing to hold on to these uncanny details.

Instead, he answers. "Freshman year. I hated it back then. Because of the associations. Because of what everyone said. You know." He shrugs. "Now it's...got its benefits."

A sudden protectiveness bristles in Lilika and she straightens up, lowering Nell to her side so that she can turn her eyes back to her friend. "Who said?" she asks, tilting her head to the side. Freshman year might feel like a long time ago to Casper but this is the first she is hearing of it (a detail that washes over her brain and fails to stick). Dealing a blow to whoever made the mistake of whispering behind her best friend's back feels as pertinent as ever.

Casper's unaccustomed to being on this side of a protective friend's fury and surprise flickers across his features as he glances at Lilika. He recalls, distantly, Cameron telling him that the two of them were more alike than he thought. He also recalls that the conversation had pissed him off, though this doesn't make much sense to him now. He shakes his head. "Graduates, mostly. And it doesn't matter, anyway. People want to talk? Let them fucking talk."

Still keenly aware of the change in the girl's mood, he adds more quietly after a pause, "...All right?"

Stormy even in the best of moods, Lilika is used to people being shocked by her quick pivots. The expression that flashes across Casper's face reminds her of a muted version of Webster's appearance any time she casually mentions murdering his perceived adversaries. Webster has known her since they were in pull-ups (strictly for accidents!) and he still sometimes misreads how serious Lilika is about making good on her threats, so she can understand why Casper might feel the need to de-escalate with a soft inquiry. After all, Casper and Lilika have only been best friends for ... huh. In her mind, the time frame is hard to place and seems entirely irrelevant, certainly not worth pursuing.

Raising Nell back to chest level, she cradles the little snake close to her heart and just under her chin. In a whisper, she apologizes for jostling her, even though she knows Nell won't understand her. Lilika allows herself a pause to consider her words before nodding, "All right."

"I just don't like hearing my own name in other people's mouths. And doubly so for my friends. It just ..." she sighs and tilts her head back, running her free hand through her hair. "It's just ... negative attention attracts negative energy."

The evil eye. An ever persistent worry in Lilika's life.
