BEST FRIENDS POTION

A mimic disguised as Archimedes Rose drugs the water at breakfast with the latest version of his altered Amortentia. Luckily, the current batch is relatively harmless. However, it's not without any effect.

HOW THIS WORKS

• If your student drinks the water, then they'll be convinced that the next person they see is their best friend. Why did they only notice just now how amaaazing this person is? They've never felt closer to anyone else.


• Archie had been calling this latest failed attempt Philidosi.


• The effects will last all day, and since this isn't necessarily dangerous, there won't be a quarantine. They will be keeping an eye on everyone, though. Just in case.


• Archie will be accused of the drugging, but Ariadne Flint is able to provide an airtight alibi that saves him from punishment. It's concluded that a mimic was behind the incident.


• All matches will be assumed to be reciprocated unless you specifically arrange something else. (For instance, if you wanted to play Stewart as thinking Alice is his best friend while Alice definitely disagrees because she was not drugged, you'll have to plan that on your own and inform the mods when you sign up.)


• Since this is relatively harmless, staff will not impose a quarantine. They'll be keeping their eyes on students, however.


• What Your Character Will Experience:
  • The only warning is that seconds before the incident occurs, affected characters will notice that the water tastes a bit odd, but in a pleasant way. The first person they make eye contact with in that state will suddenly appear to be the more incredible, interesting, amazing person they've ever seen. Their new best friend. Why didn't they ever appreciate how great they were before now???
  
  
  • At the end of the day, the affected characters will snap back to reality. They will no longer feel anything out of the ordinary.
• Dr. Perry will be available to counsel any students shaken up by the day's events.


• If you want to plan any last minute besties, you can. Just let the mods know and we'll sneak them on the list.

"We need Cheetos," Riley says to her best friend in the whole wide world, looking down at the halves of the quickly growing sandwiches below. It had taken Riley exactly zero seconds to accept that Toby was her new pet. He's big, dumb, affable, and looks like he has a very comfortable back for piggyback rides. They're basically soulmates.

"Like, what the fuck good is a sandwich without, like, crunch?"

Tuesday & Jeffy

A broom rushes on to the Quidditch Pitch, but it's lower to the ground than normal. Tuesday's balancing on her feet, going a little slower, but balancing all her weight very effectively while laughing somewhat maniacally. She waits until she sees her VERY BEST FRIEND in the Whole Actual World, and then promptly rises up into the air, flips so she's hanging by her ankles, and tosses Jeffy her OWN personal Quaffle. "It's Your turn to Catch!!" she decides

Eileen & Ira

Normally, Eileen has a lot of opinions about relationships - they're dangerous and not fated to last and someone is always going to mess it up. And normally she'd share that very useful information with anyone she was close enough with. But she just can't do that to her absolute best friend in the world, because he's just so adorable, and he's still young, and anyway she likes Spencer, so instead she's just going to give Ira some very important advice on how to make his dating life even better.

Sitting in some of the chairs in the atrium, Eileen leans to set a hand on Ira's knee. "Look, I know you and Spencer are doing great with your weirdly public game of affection chicken or whatever that was, but, you've got to trust me on this one. You have to learn how to tell him he's sexy in Korean. It'll make things a million times better. Also how to ask him to grab your ass."

Ruby & Jade

Ruby grabs the seat next to her favourite girl, with zero consideration for anyone else who might want to sit there. She has a tray of breakfast and a newly filled up water bottle, but refilling on fiber and calcium takes secondary importance to bothering Jade for attention.

"Whose murder are you planning now?" Jade's into death and murder stuff, right? Uh, of course she is. Jade is her best friend; Ruby knows everything about her that matters. Funerals. Skeletons. Being weird extremely cool and dramatic.

Jonah & Ramon

You know what? Jonah hated to admit it, but breakfast was sort of looking up.

He eats with his cabin a lot, so his spot at the table this morning was nothing new. The fact that he seems to be carrying two plates of cinnamon-raisin toast back over is, though; Jonah, ever-uncoordinated, doesn't exactly possess the cat-like grace of an experienced server, and it's rare for him to brave more than the essentials. Must be a special day.

"Here," Jonah says unselfconsciously, setting the extra goodies down on the table in front of his best friend as he wedges himself in closeclose to the other boy — and to his credit, nothing seems to have gone sliding (yet). "I grabbed some for you."

He takes a bite and smiles down at it a little. Pleased, despite himself. "Kinda shitty, but I like it, you know?"

Chloe & Georgie

Chloe yawns as Georgie runs her fingers through her hair, and bites off half of a Twizzler to keep her awake. It always makes her sleepy when people play with her hair. "Would you like one?" she asks, holding one of the red candies over her shoulder without looking. She doesn't want to mess the braid up.

Nisha & Grandpa

Nisha shows Rupert the thick stack of prom nomination ballots she's clutching in both hands. There's got to be at least forty there. The one on top has been filled out with green sharpie. "I'm gonna make SURE you're a duke," she tells him, sorting through the first few ballots. They're all done in different colored markers. "There's a freshman named Constantine, right? Because, like, I filled one out for Constantine. We're going to have to wear a disguise to put these in the ballot box, dude."

Tally & Chad

Tally's been in a low mood since her fight with Marie, one that's been utterly persistent. She's not used to her moods sticking around for more than a few days, but she's also not self-aware enough to speculate on why exactly she's taking this so badly, so she's just been in a funk.

That ends today, because today? She has a new best friend, and his name is Chad.

"We should give you a makeover," she suggests to Chad about thirty seconds after drinking Archie's potion.

ATTEMPTED MURDER #1

It had been a joke. Mostly. But watching Riley Stamper totter around in stripper heels, it occurs to Ruby how ridiculously easy it would be to put her out of commission. A smart, patient person would wait for opening night, but... impulse control has never been one of Ruby's strong suits.

It's still incredibly early in the day. No teachers are watching as Ruby walks up right behind Riley and "accidentally" swings her backpack around hard, to knock the other girl down the stairs.

Gwen and Ulysses

Gwen is still mentally chiding herself for not seeing how good a sport Uly was about, well....everything. She still giggles remembering how he charmed House colors onto his horse's mane or really, how sweet he'd been about Tas, or really, how funny he was about that whole corndog contest thing! Really, she needs to spend more time with him. Everything is a riot when he's around.

"Okay, so," she says, scooting closer and dropping her voice to a conspiratorial level, "We gotta do something big, because if you don't get Prom King, then I will throw myself in the lake. Everyone should be voting for you."

Junie and Zachary

"How are you so brilliant?" Junie breathes out, her chin propped in her palm as she watches Zach do another trick with his yo-yo. "I mean, I'm gonna read every one of these," she promises, patting her hand definitively on top of the stack of books he lent her, "but you have to help me be a better prefect. How do you do it? I just feel like it must come so naturally to you. You're gifted, Zach. I wish I could be just like you."

Ari & Calvin

While Ari's been friends with Calvin since they were first years, she's never felt particularly close to him. She'd blame it on her own personality, mostly. She's always been closed-off, especially when it came to her social circle at Hogwarts. But she and Calvin are cut from similar cloth in that way, which hasn't ever helped on the bonding front, either.

That all seems silly to her now, because, honestly? They're so similar. They're exactly the same, and after thinking about it for a second, Ari actually doesn't think she's ever felt this close to anyone before. Not even Jade.

Still, the fact that her girlfriend has been hanging out with Ruby Oberholtzer all day still stings, a little. She's stuck to Calvin like glue all morning, and mostly kept quiet about it. But when she sees them talking, heads bowed close, she can't help but crinkle her nose in disgust. "She hates Ruby," Ari says to Calvin, apropos of nothing. "Why is she still talking to her?"

Casper & Lilika

Casper hadn't expected to end up having breakfast with Lilika instead of his roommates and he certainly hadn't expected to invite the girl back to Ebonhide but these details are the farthest thing from his mind as he gets Nell out of the terrarium on his desk. He'd wanted to spend more time with the Azurcrest. So he'd asked. It had been an easy choice. A faint smile touches the edges of his lips as he asks, tone dry but still warm like he's talking to one of his roommates, "Anything you want me to tell her? Or would you prefer to handle introductions yourself?"

He turns to hand the small hognose snake over. This is what they came all this way for, after all.
