Had anyone killed one the mimic bastards that's asking for sacrifices yet? Think fire would do it? I'm fuckin done.

This is a little too much like one of those zombie shows. I'll keep a look out for something once we've left the Oak, though.

That's the only reason Phin went through with the sacrifice, I think. He's counting on Brother fixing everything, or he was. I don't really know what he's thinking now, I'm afraid to even look at him.

Unfortunately. They're stronger than a normal person too. Jaime is a strong boy, but his mimic was on a different level. He almost overpowered me with his kicks alone even while he was restrained by the net spell.

Does he hate you now? Or is it just indifference?

They said they wanted to take away any feelings for me, so I think he probably remembers everything that's happened between us but now it just means nothing and I'm nothing.

Like an old ex, I guess. I'm so sorry, Sofia. I know it hurts, but I'm sure Brother will fix it. And if not, there was a reason he fell in love with you in the first place and he can rediscover it all over again with time. He doesn't have feelings for you now but that doesn't mean he won't in the future.

Worse than that, I think. Like he never felt anything at all and is completely uninterested. I really hope you're right about Brother and that we get him back soon, because I don't have much faith in the latter option.

We have to have faith. I know that's easier said than done, but [...] what keeps me going is my belief in Brother. That no matter what happens in here, no matter what we have to sacrifice, no matter what misery is inflicted upon us, that if we keep hope in our hearts and work hard to restore his heart then he will restore us.

The alternative is giving in to misery and giving up. And that's what the mimics want.

The stables sound like a good bet. They were safe last time. I think we're going to the astronomy tower next.
